ABOUT

This mod is meant to partially complete the disappointing Hearthfires dlc. It adds in adoptable children from the other playable races. So now you don't have to adopt some stupid Nord kid if you're playing as an elf. You know, because elves are clearly a superior race. Especially the Orcs. There is something magical about seeing some little Orc (or Kitten) talking in that child voice. Makes me giggle every time I see it. YMMV.

This is the SkyChild equivalent of TKAA's Wild Child. 90+ new (mostly, more on that later) high poly children populating the world, scattered by the wind throughout Skyrim, and meant to expand and enhance wild encounters. As before, I'm including some Easter egg bonus characters. Little Angel, Little Devil (yeah, that is their name), and various hybrid races. Most are adoptable, except for the hunter-traders and Millie (the protégé of Adrianne, at the Whiterun forge that makes and sells child-fitted armors).

Mod is flagged as esl (esp-fe). There are two versions, full and lite. Choose one or the other. The lite version eliminates all hostile children, but keeps the friendly and new race versions. No more whining kids saying "What am I going to do now?". With the exception of Millie (the Whiterun child armor vendor) and the hunter trader kids in the wilds, all are available for either adoption or as followers.

This mod REQUIRES the LATEST version of SkyChild. If you don't have the latest version, you'll see a couple kids with blue hair and the girls will all have blue tights. Please do not post an error report without updating. This mod was a huge effort to port over to SkyChild, and I might have missed something else though, so please use the bug tracker if you find any other errors.

About their location - no, I do not have a list of where they are all placed in game. They are in places that make sense according to the lore of the game. Want a Dunmer kid, look in places where the adults populate the game. Or get lucky and find a bandit version. You have two choices for any particular race, clean city kids or the unwashed bandits.

The wild kids may or may not be hostile to you. If you encounter hostile children, they are only reacting to what the adults around them are doing. If you remove all the adult threats, and sheathe your weapon, they will cease being hostile to you. They can be adopted at this point if you have any free slots.

As before, due to the "isChild" flag in the game, the children are hard coded to run and hide when trouble starts. That flag is also responsible for managing other in-game behaviors, and it is NOT RECOMMENDED to uncheck it. If you want these children to defend themselves and/or present an extra challenge in bandit encounters, please get the excellent mod Savage Offspring. This is what I use and highly recommend. I've coded most of these children as "Protected", which means they can only be killed by YOU. Millie the armor vendor is flagged essential, as are Little Angel and Little Devil.

A couple of the Easter egg characters (Hermione and Claudia) are gone now, I'm working on custom-voiced standalone versions of those. Yes, you still get skeleton and ghost kids. A new addition is a child version of ME. If adopted, you can tell me to go play outside or clean my room if I'm being too much of a brat. Plus, haters can now shout me off a cliff instead of posting snarky comments. Oh boy.

You will get two different responses from these children when you meet them, depending on their situation. Bandit kids will give you the "Oh...hi", sighing, or "What am I going to do now?" dialogue, because you know, you just wiped out their clan. They are set as Adoptable Faction, rank 1. City kids are set as rank 3, do not whine at you, and you also get a new option, "Care to join the Dragonborn for an adventure?" (this option is only if you are indeed the Dragonborn, and will not appear if using something like Live Another Life, etc. because immersion). To have them as a follower, Dragonborn, you will need to have Relationship Dialogue Overhaul or RDO Lite to get that follower dialogue.

KNOWN ISSUES

There is a strange behavior that goes along with the Adoptable Faction, rank 1, though. It will block any follower response from a child UNTIL you have filled all of your available adoption slots. Why the game acts this way, IDK. At rank 3 this doesn't happen. So why not set them all at rank 3? Because it felt weird that a child that just saw you wipe out every adult that they would have known, would not have a sad reaction to you. "What am I going to do now", indeed.

Some of the armors use the standard game "skirt" bones. These can often exhibit odd behaviors, such as defying gravity when your child is playing on the floor. As I see this, I will rip those bones out of the armor and re-rig them in Outfit Studio. I could use some help with that since so many armors are included (as in, all of them IIRC). Let me know in the bug tracker or pm if you see any of that kind of goofiness in the armors.

The beast race kids are, for now, just direct ports from their TKAA versions. I was never able to get high poly versions of them made using the high poly head mod. And frankly, I really liked how they looked in TKAA, unlike the humanoid races.

SOME HIGHLY RECOMMENDED MODS

Universal Race Scale Remover (Stops that annoying growing and shrinking when using furniture)
Savage Offspring (children can defend themselves, friends and allies)
Slayable Offspring (children are no longer immortal)
Dragons Keep (you can send orphaned bandit kids there, has a player home too)
Stonehall Orphanage (another place in Markarth to send orphaned bandit kids)
Kinghall Orphanage (same as above, same author, just in Solitude)
Bloodhall Orphanage (same as above, same author, specially made for undead children!)
Simple Follower Extension (super lightweight way to add 10 followers)
Simple Horse (lightweight way for your followers (5 of them) to get a horse to ride with you)
Other follower and clothing managers

SUMMARY

I think that pretty much sums up everything. Any issues, please report in the bug tracker. Comments are closed due to the rampant trolling I get on this site, sorry.

CREDITS

Please see Wild Child for credits on the assets used. The armors added are all just reworked vanilla, adapted for use by these children. If I missed anything else, please let me know.
