As an actual locksmith, the Skyrim lockpicking minigame is the wrongest lockpick sim I've seen. Also, do the lockpick perks seem useless to you, too? Since I've been learning how to mod, I'm finally able to do something about it. It doesn't change the minigame, but can bypass it altogether as you level the skill up. This works by adding an extra option attached to the perks.
For the lockpicking perks you have; novice, apprentice, adept, expert and master, when you activate a lock of that level, it will give you the option to automatically unlock it, skipping the animations. It still gives lockpicking experience. I tried to match the vanilla xp added, but I'll adjust it if need be.
You will need at least one lockpick to be able to use the auto feature. That seemed like an obvious thing, at least to me.
This mod was made to be as small and simple as possible, but may cause problems if you use other lockpick mods or mods that overhaul the vanilla perk tree.
A known issue: it seems to bypass the crime of opening owned things. I'm not sure how to fix that, but if I ever do, I'll add it into a future update.
Since this is a very small file, I'm uploading an esl version as well as the esp. This is my first esl, so I'm hoping I did the conversion right. If not, by all means, let me know.
Oh, one last thing, in the Dragonsreach Jarl's quarters, there was a master locked display case that was flagged wrong, so I fixed it. Otherwise, the auto unlock option would not show up. If you find any other locks that the mod fails to work with, let me know and I'll see what I can do about it.
