Overview

This mod aims to bring an easy to manage realistic light source into your even darkest playthroughs. CS, ENB and lighting/weather mods have progressed to more modern and realistic lighting models removing fake lights/glowing walls... which by nature makes Skyrim's interiors and nights a lot darker. And it's great since dungeons and the nightly wilderness can be eerie and dangerous! Without a proper light source navigating through dungeons is as deadly as it should be. So, best to have both hands free which is why Quick Beri merges my favourite lantern mods, bringing together the easiness of Quick Light and Eld-beri's particle light lanterns.

Features

  • Realistic ENB complex particle lights powered lanterns
  • Turn the lanterns on and off by long pressing the activation key or with the L key
  • Turn on the light with the L key during a conversation if you cannot see who you are talking to
  • MCM Menu to adjust the keyboard settings, brightness, lantern light types
  • Detectable
  • Doesn't use an armour slot
  • Endless duration
  • Compatible with almost any mod (See Compatibility section)
  • Natively supports Community Shaders and ENB (The lantern lights differ slightly but that's a limitation of ENB)
  • Does not count against the shadow casting number limit

Requirements

  • Community Shaders with LLF or ENB
  • NL_MCM

Compatibility

This mod should be fully compatible with almost any mod out there. I play with a ~1400 mods list (based on Lexy's mod setup) and haven't found any issues besides the ones below.

Partially incompatible with Quick Light. The keymaps overlap. To make it compatible change the keyboard settings in the Quick Beri or Quick Light MCM Menu.
Partially incompatible with Immersive Interactions. To get rid of the message "No Nearby Iterms to Interact With" when long pressing the activation key, go into the MCM Menu of Immersive Interactions -> Settings -> Special Interactions and switch off "Show Warning If Interaction Failed". Alternatively, use a different hold key in the MCM Menu of Quick Beri.
Incompatible with Eld-Beri II. You can have both installed at the same time but I don't recommend using them simultaneously. Problems can range from z-fighting, sometimes Quick Beri lanterns not showing the self-light, ...

Installation/Uninstallation

Install Quick Beri like any other mod with your favourite mod manager. Installation can be done mid-game. To safely uninstall Quick-Beri mid-game, disable the mod in the MCM menu first before removing it from the load order.

CS users: You can adjust the light radius/colour/brightness of the emitted lights in the ParticleLights/fxquickberi.ini file to your liking. (See the docs here for more details).

Performance

A lot of the changes compared to the Eld-Beri II mod have been made to increase the performance considerably. The lack of wide ranged diffuse light of the particle lights has been mitigated by adding a static low cost diffuse light source which also creates a more realistic overall lighting scene. Furthermore, the diffuse light source allowed it to more than half the amount of high-cost particle lights without negative visual impact. The difference between lanterns turned on and off is around 2-5fps (CS) and 4-8 fps (ENB). No differences anymore between 1st and 3rd person due to an optimized 1st person mesh. The fps are an estimate based on my rig but should give you a rough idea about the performance impact.

Usage

Turn the lantern light on and off by long pressing the activation key (E per default) or using the toggle key L. The toggle key can be used during conversations. The keyboard keys and other settings can be adjusted in the MCM menu. Furthermore, choose between different light sources: a flame lantern (orange torch-like light) or pure lanterns (more white light). The radius and brightness can also be adjusted in the MCM.

Switching between cells/loading areas doesn't change the lighting state (on or off). But, when going to sleep with lights turned on, the lantern is automatically turned off.

Screenshot mod setup

Almost all screenshots were made with Community Shaders, my Arcane Reshade and DarkLadyLexy's Mod Setup. The main mods from this modlist responsible for the darkness are Cathedral Weathers, Lux (Orbis, Via).
