About this mod
Tired of your summons and cloaks persisting when you no longer need them? Now you can get rid of an effect of your choice with a single spell. SkyPatched, ESLified, and working with Spell Research out of the box.

Dispel Spells is a remake of my old mod that accomplished the same, but this time instead of using a separate spell for each effect and cluttering the menu, you can cast the same apprentice alteration spell to remove different effects, depending on how you use it. It also provides a scroll and a staff, and uses SkyPatcher instead of editing leveled lists for maximum compatibility. There are mods with similar functionality (e.g. toggling candlelight if you cast it again, or dismissing summons), mine just provides another option.
When you cast Dispel:
- Summons are dismissed if you're standing still (not sneaking).
- Candlelight is removed if you are sneaking and are motionless.
- Cloaks are dispelled if you're sneaking and moving.
- Magic armour is removed if you are moving in a normal stance (not sneaking).
Movement can be either running or walking.
Compatibility
The mod is compatible with everything thanks to SkyPatcher adding the items to leveled lists. You can find the spell, scroll and staff in the same way as you find other apprentice alteration spells/scrolls/staves. I also provided a patch for Spell Research. The patch requires FormList Manipulator, thanks to which it bypasses the import process and doesn't need a script or a quest record.
Dispel Spells removes effects based on keywords, so modded spells will also work with it as long as they use the appropriate vanilla keywords. For example, if an armour spell uses the MagicArmorSpell [KYWD:0001EA72] keyword, it will be dispelled.
The file is ESL flagged (ESP-FE format), so it won’t contribute to the plugin limit of 254.
FAQ
Q: Why does the staff have a much worse description than the spell and scroll?
A: It uses the combined description of its magic effects. I did add a description field to its weapon record, however the magic effects seem to take priority unlike the spell and scroll.
Q: The spell and scroll description is rubbish in the first place.
A: I'd be happy to improve it if you have better suggestions.
Q: The conditions are weird too. Dispelling by casting while sneaking? Really?
A: It's the best I could come up with that's not intrusive, has native conditions, and doesn't require menuing.
Q: The staff animation is broken!
A: Vanilla bug. Use one of the mods from the requirements section to fix it.
Q: I played for hours and I've never seen the items anywhere.
A: Make sure you have SkyPatcher installed.
Q: I don't want the spell/scroll/staff/any of the items to appear in my leveled lists.
A: Open the INI file and remove the appropriate lines. Each line has a comment saying which item it adds to which leveled list.
Q: You're not really selling it, you know.
A: Then use one of the alternative mods that do something similar, for example Dismiss Friendly Conjured Creatures.
Q: ESL?
A: Yes.
Q: Will this work on an existing save?
A: Yes.
