Prerequisites
Before starting, ensure you have the following:
  • A clean installation of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition (SSE) (Latest version, preferably from Steam) & Creation KIT
  • A Nexus Mods account (Premium recommended for faster downloads).
  • Wabbajack (Download the latest version from Wabbajack.org).
  • At least 100 GB of free disk space (Modlists can be large).
  • 7-Zip or WinRAR 
  • Visual C++ x64
  • .Net Runtime v5 desktop x64 



Step 1: Prepare Your Skyrim Installation
  • Launch Skyrim SSE at least once through Steam to generate necessary files.
  • Launch Creation Kit at least once through Steam to generate necessary files.


Step 2: Set Up Wabbajack
  • Download Wabbajack from Wabbajack.org.
  • Extract Wabbajack.exe to a dedicated folder (e.g., C:\Wabbajack
  • Run Wabbajack.exe (Allow admin privileges if prompted).

Step 3: Download the Foundation Modlist - (ATM This list is only available only Nexus)
  • Open Wabbajack and click "Browse Modlists".
  • Find "Foundation" in the gallery (use search if needed).
  • Click the download button (⬇️) to download the modlist.
  • Select an installation folder:
    • Choose a location with at least 100 GB free space (e.g., C:\Modding\Foundation
    • Do not install in:
      • Program Files
      • OneDrive
      • Cloud-synced folders
  • Select your Skyrim SSE folder (usually C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition

Step 4: Configure Nexus Mods API Key (For Automatic Downloads)
  • Click the "Settings" gear icon in Wabbajack.
  • Under "Nexus API Key," click "Log in" (this will open Nexus Mods in your browser).
  • Log in to Nexus Mods and allow Wabbajack access.
  • Copy the API key and paste it into Wabbajack.
  • Enable "Premium Downloads" (if you have Nexus Premium) for faster downloads.

Step 5: Run the Installation
  • Click the "Play" button in Wabbajack to start the installation.
  • Wait for the process to complete (this may take 1-4 hours depending on internet speed).
    • Wabbajack will:
      • Download mods from Nexus.
      • Install them in the correct order.
      • Generate necessary patches.
  • If manual downloads are required (rare), Wabbajack will prompt you—follow the instructions.

Step 6: Final Setup
  • Once installation is complete, Wabbajack will display: "Installation Complete!"
  • Open the installation folder and locate:
    • Mod Organizer 2 (MO2) (inside the Foundation folder).
  • Run ModOrganizer.exe (this will set up virtual files).
  • Select "Foundation" in MO2’s profile dropdown.
  • Run SKSE through MO2 (click the dropdown next to "Run" and select SKSE).

Step 7: Launch and Play
  • Click "Run" in MO2 to launch Skyrim with the Foundation modlist.
  • Adjust in-game settings (if needed) via the MCM (Mod Configuration Menu).
  • Enjoy your modded Skyrim experience!

Troubleshooting
  • Wabbajack fails to download mods?
