Mind you, I have lots of mod configurations in the menu. The fire is way too small.
On another mod, it looks more like real lightning. [edit]
Long time ago, I designed a formula when I helped another mod developer for another game. From source to destination at regular random distance, a bolt branches out a short distance in a random direction. It's not fork lightning, but it looks great. [edit]
Optional settings, force throw in a random direction. Even if your protected from shock, being in lightning storm is still a bad idea!
Hi Shizof! Thanks for illuminating us (and sometimes, burning). Is this mod compatible with Community Shaders, more precisely with Nat3 + Nat3.CS? I was using your mod with and ENB and everything was ok, but now that I swapped to CS with NatCS modifying Nat3, it's not working for me (I see no lightning strikes at all). Thanks in advance for your help.
Yes. It's compatible with everything. There is no reason it wouldn't work with CS. I'm using CS myself. If the weather mod you use doesn't have lightning records this mod checks, you can simply enable Compatibility mode from MCM first and then adjust lightning frequencies according to your preferences or select a preset that you want.
Hey there! I am using NAT 3 weathers with Cabbage ENB (not the latest version yet but I am getting there).. I've read previous comments here about the frequency being set to 255.. I am now changing it so I can see good storms with your mod installed, as having only white flashes and sounds with no lightning is unimmersive!
I've got several questions I was hoping you could answer? :)
1. Are my numbers fine, should I increase the frequency or change colors based on my visuals? https://i.imgur.com/RE0OloQ.png 2. Do I have do change any other weather except for SkyrimStormRain, especially since NAT adds their own weathers? https://i.imgur.com/nOehoiv.png 3. What options do you recommend during FOMOD install? I used level 0 for night options and level 0 Dim for day options

Patching the esp for weather mods that do not have lightning enabled records is only needed if you want different rain weathers to have different lightning amounts. In compatibility mode, you get lightning in all rain weathers based on your mcm settings. So if you only want to increase lightning amount, you can simply change the mcm settings to increase lightning amounts.
Are my numbers fine, should I increase the frequency or change colors based on my visuals?
Frequency numbers only matter if you want different lightning amount for different rainy weathers. Calculation is explained in the description page compatibility section. So I suggest checking those. Lightning frequency settings in the MCM are for the weathers with the most lightning. Rest is calculated from that. Those colors are for lightning flashes. The values you use should work (219, 220, 219) which is a greyish color close to white.
Do I have do change any other weather except for SkyrimStormRain, especially since NAT adds their own weathers?
I don't think NAT uses the vanilla storm weather record. It uses its own weathers, so changing SkyrimStormRain wouldn't do anything. You'd need to patch NAT's own rain weathers in your case.
What options do you recommend during FOMOD install? I used level 0 for night options and level 0 Dim for day options
That depends on your weather and brightness settings and ENB/CS visuals etc. So if you find them too bright, you can use darker ones. Testing to find the best one for you is the key.
You don't have to revert your changes to use Compatibility mode, but yeah, using compatibility mode is the easiest. If lightning amount is not enough for you, you can use another preset from mcm or adjust the lightning frequencies from mcm etc.
Besides, are there big drawbacks to using compatibility mode except for missing variance per weather as that's what description is trying to say, from what I read?
Great! I tested it a bit and wow, what a difference does it make! There were a lot of close lightnings striking, how can I reduce them so only those far away are happening?
Btw, this still stands for compatibility mode?
When Compatibility mode is enabled you need to Disable Cloudy and Snowy Sheet and Fork lightnings from General page of MCM to make sure you don't get lightnings for those weathers

In the MCM, you can increase Minimum Fork Distance to 1 or higher to prevent them from happening on your current cell.

Yes. They should be disabled by default already though.
This module has some issues with supporting the latest 1.422 version of Lightning Storm 2019. I selected compatibility mode in the advanced options of MCM, which is why lightning storm appeared. However, this choice cannot be permanently saved. As long as I exit the game or read another game save, the compatibility mode in MCM will automatically cancel again. Then it leads to rain without lightning storms.I hope the author can improve this issue.
I don't understand. After changing the MCM settings, you need to save and it should stick in your savefile. If you load that save file, the setting will be used since it's saved in a global. Maybe you haven't continued that save?
After modifying MCM, I will continue playing and save it. But after reading this file again, the compatibility mode was automatically deselected. Then I can only choose again and save. But the next time you continue playing this save, compatibility mode automatically disappears.
That's not normal behaviour, and I can't reproduce an issue like that. I just tried again for you, opened the game, enabled it, saved the game and exited, opened the game again and loaded that save and it's still enabled.
I don't know what happened. Everything was working just fine. The only mods I have that do anything to the weather is this one and the suggested thunder sounds replacer. I haven't added any new mods or made any adjustments to any game settings. The lightning and thunder just stopped appearing one stormy day in Skyrim. I don't even know where to start to find the issue since I haven't done anything to the game. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Oh okay thanks! Since installing this mod there has always been thunder and lightning whenever it rained, so I thought that was something I would always experience when it was raining in game.
I appreciate you responding, I was actually getting on here to make an edit to my post because I did put it on Compatibility mode and the lightning and thunder was back. May I ask what exactly the difference is when we have Compatibility Mode On compared to it being Off. I can't saw that I saw any difference, but I am very new to the world of modding. I do LOVE this mod and I appreciate the work you have done on it!!!!!
When compatibility mode is off, lightning/thunder frequency on the weather records themselves are used so that there is variation between different rain weathers. But, if the weather mod author disabled lightning/thunder in their rainy weathers, you don't get lightnings with this mod.
When compatibility mode is on, a single lightning frequency is used for all rain weathers. This assures there is lightning in all weathers, even if the weather mod author disabled lightning/thunder in their mods.
It's possible that some rainy weathers are specifically set to have no lightning/thunder by the author, and the rains you experienced before were not one of those. Compatibility mode simply makes you ignore weather author's preferences basically. It's also possible to patch the rainy weather records to add back lightning to those weathers. That is explained in the description page in Compatibility section in the end.
It was working, but then stopped. I donno which new mod causes that. (It works now too, but only in compatibility mod). Which type of mods can cause that ? Sunhelm ? Wet and Cold ? R.A.S.S ? Campfire ? :D Using NAT ENB + NAT Weather.
Which type of mods can cause that ? Sunhelm ? Wet and Cold ? R.A.S.S ? Campfire :D
None of those. Only mods that change weather records. You can use compatibility mode, you don't lose anything with that mode except variance between different rain weathers.
Well, would be cool to have that variance. Trying to figure out what changed. Im creating build but last mounth was working mostly with textures and meshes of environment. Btw, could be that "compatibility mod" was enabled by default after installation ? Didnt check that.
Open xEdit, load all the plugins. When it finishes loading, at the top left FormID textbox, write C8220 and press enter. It will go to SkyrimStormRain record automatically and on the right side, it will show all the mods that are changing its records. In the "Filter by Name" textbox at the top, you can write lightning and see only the relevant records. "Thunder/Lightning - Frequency" record is used by this mod.
From the description page: A value of 255 means no lightning. A value less than 255 means lightning will appear. Smaller frequency values will result in higher amount of lightning. Configuration settings selected in MCM are for the smallest frequency values in your installed mods, so other weather lightning amounts are calculated from that.
For example: If weather A have 15 as frequency and B has 160 frequency. 15 is the lowest frequency in installed mods so it is used as a base. Assuming the player has chosen 50 lightnings per second in MCM, A will have 50 lightnings per second (20ms wait), and B will have 20 * (160/15) = 213ms wait resulting less than 5 lightnings per second.
Only those 3 Does it means NAT-ENB was always incompatible for storm lightning ? I didint update nothing. Maybe it depends on the load order ? I mean, if NAT-ENB was before Update.esm, then that value was 246 instead of 255 ? And why does some1 will use vvalue of 255 in his weather mod ? whats the point ? If i will manually change 255 to 246 in NAT ENB, will i broke smth ? Sorry, so many questions..im new to this, i know how u guys tired to hear same guestions for years) Anyway, thank you a lot, i would spend 23213 hours to find answer in other place.
After rewrite new value for NAT ENB, Lightning mod started to work as intended, but only from the new game. Old saves wasnt work. New theory: I've made my first testing save before i installed NAT ENB and then was rewriting new saves based on it, so lightning mod stopped work after i made a new, clear save game. Ty ! Last guestion, does Thunder Sounds - WiZkiD Mix worth to install ? Current sounds are cool, can smth be even better ?
You can test it and see if you like them better or not. If you don't, you can just remove it. They just replace the sounds, and you can add or remove it anytime you want.
Hmm, this was interesting info. Just took a look myself and NAT ENB, for some reason, disables lightning for a lot of weathers that have them in vanilla. I'm just going to trust its judgment, but still interesting.
Would be awesome if there was a chance of lightning striking a person (npc or pc) depending on metallic armor (heavy), weapon or altitude (high chance). There was an animation lightning effect somewhere (pet collar on LL i think!). thanks!
I don't recommend not using mod manager for modding this game. You should either use MO2 or Vortex.
If you want to do manual installation, you would get into trouble like this a lot because lots of mods use FOMOD installers. I would suggest downloading and opening the folder of these mods you download with "FOMOD Creation Tool" and checking what files/folder go to where with what options.
OR
A better way would be to simply install MO2 as a portable installation somewhere, which doesn't touch the game folder, and install this mod(and other FOMOD installer mods) with selectable options and then you would get the outputs as mod entries in it. You can then use those mod entry folders as ready to install mods.
I've tried both Vortex and MM2 in the past. Didn't like how intrusive Vortex felt. MM2 would be perfect if I had the option to not use staging folders. I want to copy my mods over to the data folder, like I've been doing since Morrowind.
I'll look into the FOMOD Creation Tool. Thanks for the quick reply.
Yeah I recommend using MO2 for what you want. The mod entries themselves are real folders in MO2. You can then just take the inside of it and install it into your game folder.
can you add an effect to the screen like a big white flash because brazero litght up when there is thunder... it'sa vanilla issue but i think we could hide it with a global flash on screen

I suggest patching them using xEdit to a whiter color like in the image like (219, 220, 219).
