About this mod
Nordic Bear Armor, An immersive™ armo(u)r mashup/retexture to finally fulfil the unused 'DLC2ArmorMaterialNordicLight' keyword from Dragonborn and enable you to wear dead bears for a laugh without looking like a Stormcloak. What are you going to do about it?

Have you ever shut up I said have you ever wanted to wear dead bears for a laugh, wished that the act of wearing dead bears for a laugh wasn’t copyrighted by the Stormcloaks and/or wished that there was a modded armour set in the Nordic style that’s not just the Nordic Carved Armor just set to light™?
Then sit down, my child, for I have a story for you:
In Dragonborn’s .esm, there exists the keyword ‘DLC2ArmorMaterialNordicLight’ and the outfit ‘DLC2ArmorNordicLight‘, which of course suggests that there was meant to be a light armour set in the Nordic style. This is why the Nordic armour has the word “Carved” in the name unlike the weapons and shield, as it would have differentiated between the two Nordic armour sets. I also believe that Frea’s proficiency in the Light Armor skill was not accidental as she was meant to wear this cut light armour; but since this armour was cut, she had to wear the next best thing aesthetically (but not changing her armour proficiency from light to heavy when they changed her armour to Nordic Carved WAS accidental).
Due to this GROSS INJUSTICE on Bethesda Game Studios’ part, I took it upon myself to make a unique (ok it’s a reskin and an armour mashup but what are you going to do about it, tell on me?) armour set that fits the ‘DLC2ArmorMaterialNordicLight’ keyword for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition 2016 PC Video Game with Finally A Nordic Light (Bear) Armor For The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition (FANLBAFTESVSSE).
With the Nordic Bear Armor, you can wear dead bears for a laugh.
I decided that the original ‘DLC2ArmorMaterialNordicLight’ armour set would have been a reimagining of the Bear Armors from Morrowind’s Bloodmoon expansion because many Morrowind/Bloodmoon armours saw a return in the Dragonborn expansion and because of the bear motif on the Nordic Carved Armor. The Stormcloak Officer Armor was therefore the obvious base for this armour mashup/reskin. I also took elements familiar to the Nordic Carved armour and incorporated them in this armour (eg. Nordic Carved bear head-shaped pauldrons ≡ actual bear head pauldrons).
So if you ever wanted to fill that ‘DLC2ArmorMaterialNordicLight’-shaped hole in your The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition 2016 PC Video Game experience, wear dead bears for a laugh in the most vanilla way possible without feeling like a Stormcloak or if you somehow missed wearing the Stormcloak Officer armour when you downloaded that one Stormcloak armour replacer mod, then hmmmmmmmm maybe just maybe maybe maybe FANLBAFTESVSSE is the mod for you.
Probably.
Yes.
NPC CHANGES:
WHY IN THE NAME OF THE ALL-MAKER DOES THIS MOD CHANGE FREA?
While Frea in vanilla wears the Nordic Carved armour, her armour proficiency is instead light. This led me to believe that she was going to wear the originally-planned Nordic Light armour, but after this was cut, Frea had to wear the next best thing aesthetically with her armour proficiency unchanged.
Frea's entries changed: NPC entry, outfit entry, class entry
(the NPC and Class entries are identical-to-master to counteract any other mods' bug-fixes to Frea that make her proficient in Heavy Armour)
WHY DID YOU CHANGE BUJOLD THE UNWORTHY I MEAN INTREPID? ANSWER ME!
So she can stand out as a faction leader in the Dragonborn expansion while keeping the colour scheme of the brown leather and black fur. Bujold in vanilla also wields a Nordic War Axe, so her wearing the Nordic Bear armour would visually compliment this weapon.
Bujold's entries changed: NPC entry
WHY DOES THIS MOD CHANGE THE GHOST OF GARUK WINDRIME, AS IN THAT GHOST WHO ATTACKS YOU IN GYLDENHUL BARROW ALONGSIDE THE GHOST OF HAKNIR DEATH-BRAND (YOU GET ME)?
The other named ghost serving Haknir Death-brand, Thalin Ebonhand, wears the Nordic Carved armour. I had theorised that Garuk Windrime would have been the light-armoured counterpart to Thalin’s heavy-armoured, and I thus replaced his Chitin Armour with the Nordic Bear armour, especially since this is an all-Nord crew. While it’s not impossible for a Nord pirate who operated in Morrowind’s waters to prefer Chitin armour, this is my guess as to what Bethesda originally intended.
Garuk's entries changed: Outfit entry
TECHNICAL AND COMPATIBILITY NOTES:
- This is NOT an armour replacer.
- To smith Nordic Bear Armor, you need the Advanced Armors perk.
- As the DLC2ArmorMaterialNordicLight keyword is a Vanilla keyword that is built in to the Light Matching Set Perk, you will achieve a matching set bonus if you have the perk.
- As mentioned above, the FOMOD comes with a version of the esp that does not alter the NPCs. The Non-NPC-Changing version still features changes to the levelled lists that would result in any generic NPCs (i.e. bandits/reavers) that use those levelled lists to randomly wear pieces of the armour.
- Several base-game and Dragonborn levelled lists have been directly altered appropriately to spawn this armour. I have not changed the DLC2Init Quest to add these armours like how the Nordic Carved Armor was. I recommend that you make your own bashed patch to merge the levelled lists of other mods.
- Unenchanted armour pieces will appear at Level 22 and three tiers of enchanted variants will appear at levels 26, 28 and 30 respectively. Nordic Bear and Nordic Snow Bear armour pieces can be found across Skyrim and Solstheim (chance: 75% Bear, 25% Snow Bear). Higher tiered bandits/reavers will wear pieces of this armour randomly and Reaver Lords will have a chance of wearing the full set.
- The armour pieces feature Survival keywords.
- As per the reasoning above, there is an optional NORDIC CARVED IS NORDIC CARVED plug-in that renames any enchanted Nordic Carved armour pieces that are just called “Nordic” to “Nordic Carved”. These entries are renamed copies from the vanilla game, so if you have another mod that alters the stats of the Nordic Carved armour pieces, you should see to the renaming yourself.
- Though this is a mashup of armours, I have altered the UVs in a way that it's mostly one or two textures per armour part. The only vanilla texture that this uses is the Nordic Carved body texture for the limbs. Thus, the limbs are the only part of this armour that will be affected by any texture replacer that affects the Nordic Carved armour. Do not ask me to make a version of the textures for aMidianBorn or whatever mod of similar result.
