This mod greatly reduces the unnatural shininess of all vanilla dirt cliff meshes. This is an issue that has bugged me for ages - the cliffs stick out like a sore thumb, especially when using an ENB. I ended up taking a look at the meshes and settled on reducing their specularity values from 1.0 to 0.1.
Custom Textures
All custom textures are compatible. However, it's worth taking a look at the opacity of the normal maps included in such mods, as they can contribute to increased shininess. I use a LE mod called Pine Forest Landscapes, and I had to reduce the included normal maps by around 90% to achieve the preferred look. If you aren't sure how to do this, read below:
2) Open the normal maps using the application. The files that are relevant to this mod are:
textures\landscape\PineForest01_n.dds
textures\landscape\PineForest02_n.dds
textures\landscape\PineForest02_n.dds
Please note that a mod may alter other relevant normal maps. In the case of Pine Forest Landscapes, I also had to edit the included fieldgrass02_n.dds, which had been changed to blend in with Pine Forest textures.
3) Click the wrench in the bottom right corner, then move the opacity slider from 255 to around 30.
4) Save the image. In the DDS pop-up window, select BC3 (Linear, DXT5), and make sure that 'Generate Mip Maps' is selected.
Installation
This is a simple replacement mod - just activate with your mod manager and the vanilla meshes will be overwritten. It's safe to install or uninstall at any time.
