A lot of playtroughs devolve into constant stealth archery, as that is a too easy and powerful play style. This makes other styles less useful, and causes stealth archers to lose the challenges of actual combat.
This mod adds a maximum range to sneak attacks, so that stealth archery is not too overpowered anymore, while still being a viable play style. This is done by halving the sneak attack damage multiplier beyond that range. This means that a player needs to close in to within this minimum range to make a sneak attack with a ranged weapon. This adds a challange to stealth archers, while still allowing them to use the style.
The default maximum range for sneak attacks is 700 units, which is about 10 meters, or 32.67 feet. It can be configured with the following console command:
set SneakAttackMaxRange to <maxrangeinunits>
Where max range in units is the desired maximum range. I would keep it around 500-1000 units.
Note that when you have perks that increase bow sneak attack damage, they still work, even beyond this max range. So if you have the perk that causes sneak attacks to be 3 times as powerful as usual, rather than 2 times, it will now be 1.5 times as powerful beyond the max range. I am considering changing that though.
