Redcap's wonderful custom helmet model and textures were done by @NorthWindBlue (Discord)
Rolled the Pride Month Patch back to v1.5 to no longer include the Community Shaders/ENB fix by default. The fix is likely only needed for users who have Complex Material/Parallax enabled, so to use those features with the Pride Month Patch simply install the fix from Optional Files & load it after
Also, if you don't experience the melty texture issue, you don't need & shouldn't install the fix!
Version 1.4.5f
Uploaded a fix in Optional Files for the melty distorted textures on Redcap's helmet with Community Shaders or ENB installed (this may only be an issue if you have Complex Material/Parallax enabled. If you don't see a weird warping effect on his helmet without it, you don't need this fix)
Also updated the Pride Month Patch to v1.6 to include the CS/ENB fix!
Version 1.4.5e
Added optional commentary & interactions patch for Anglerfish - Pixie's Creature Series which adds new combat dialogue for Anglerfish enemies, unique dialogue for fighting Big Caesar, & some fun lil interactions with Chow at the Riften Fishery
Version 1.4.5d
Updated optional patch for Gingerbread Atronachs - Fathom's Creature series to v1.1
Reworked Cookiecap script to make it end more reliably after 3 minutes
Added failsafe dialogue to turn Redcap back to normal in case the effect doesn't end after 3 minutes as intended - Ask Redcap how long he thinks he will be a cookie, and he will turn back to normal in 60 seconds if the original effect doesn't end first
Version 1.4.5c
Added optional interactions patch for Gingerbread Atronachs - Fathom's Creature Series which adds new dialogue and a very funny mishap
Version 1.4.5b
Added optional Description Framework addon that gives fun descriptions to all of the Misc items added by Redcap
Version 1.4.5a
Added Commentary Patch for Dreughs - Fathom's Creature Series
~ 20 lines of new dialogue including unique combat lines on all new enemies added by Dreughs, comments on new items and ingredients, and comments on the player wearing the Dreugh Chitin Armor
Version 1.4.5
Redcap's New Look - The 1 Year Anniversary Update!!!
Redcap has been on Nexus for an entire year, which doesn't feel real. Thank you so much to everyone who supports and enjoys him it means so much <3 (it's his birthday!)
REDCAP NOW HAS A HIGH QUALITY, UNBELIEVABLY DETAILED CUSTOM 3D MODEL FOR HIS HELMET - The new helmet, along with being a massive visual upgrade to Redcap's appearance is much closer to my original vision for Redcap's theme and concept than the simple red retexture of the vanilla game's Riekling helmet he has worn thus far. There are so many little details and small touches that make it even more special and unique, thank you to @NorthWindBlue on Discord for the amazing custom model and textures
The new helmet is included as Redcap's default appearance in the main mod, and will work with ALL of Redcap's armors including the Pirate Hat, the Sweet Roll hat, the Blades hat, and all of his vanilla equivalents
Despite the very high quality of this new model and textures being added to the mod, this update actually decreases the overall file size of the mod by removing some unnecessary meshes and textures left over from the old appearance
The textures on this new helmet are performance friendly and will cause no impact despite their visual quality, and I will be releasing higher quality optional versions of them and every custom texture in the mod with various options up to full 4K as a separate, optional texture pack on a later date
The Pride Month Patch has also been updated with the new helmet model and AMAZING new custom textures (check mod page images!)
Rewrote the part of Anise's journal calling Redcap's helmet a "crude hunk of metal" because that no longer applies :)
Thank you all for downloading Redcap this past year! Much more fun stuff to come <3
Version 1.4.0
The Inigo Interactions Update!!!
Added over 250 lines of new Redcap dialogue (not counting Inigo's interaction lines)
Added follower interactions with Inigo by SmartBlueCat! 158 lines of dialogue, tons of banter, full conversation scenes, commentary on each other's quests and locations, and a friendship that continues to develop over a playthrough
Added ONE NEW SPECIAL ARMOR for Redcap - Bringing Redcap to Skyhaven Temple will unlock Redcap's unique Blades Armor, which gives the player a special buff that reduces damage taken from dragons and increases crit chance against dragons while Redcap is wearing it, and adds new dialogue Redcap will say when he has it equipped. Redcap's Blades Armor counts as light armor and has the armor value of a full set of vanilla Blades armor, minus the shield.
Added TWO NEW CRAFTABLE ARMORS for Redcap - Stalhrim and Chitin, along with unique passive buffs and new dialogue lines he will say when wearing each of them! Redcap's Stalhrim Armor counts as heavy armor, can be crafted with either light or heavy stalhrim armor, and will make Redcap 100% immune to frost damage, while Redcap's Chitin Armor is light armor that can be crafted with chitin light armor and will confer a 100% immunity to poison damage along with a slight movement speed buff. These armors will be added to the Redcap's Armor checklist quest automatically on new saves, and for existing saves a dialogue option has been added to his armor topics where you can ask him if there are any more armors you can craft him, which will add the new ones to the list (this is not required to craft and give him the armors, it is simply to add them as objectives in the checklist quest)
Added a custom follow distance system: Redcap's default follow distance package has been improved, and a new toggle option to set Redcap to follow closer, his default distance, or further away has been added under 'About adventuring together...' These options can be freely switched between at any time for player preference and for different situations that they may be helpful in: ie. if you're in an enemy-heavy area and sneaking, have him follow closer to make it less likely enemies will bump into him in his stealth mode!
Revoiced Redcap's intro quest dialogue and several of his older basic follower lines
Added new combat lines
Added new idle lines for towns, location types, weather, crafting stations, Khajiit caravans, etc.
Added new lines for several of Redcap's previous armors he will say while wearing them
Added new summon spell dialogue
Added new misc lines and Riekling words
Added new song Redcap will sing when drunk
Changed armor values of all of Redcap's armors to make them more distinct from each other and more balanced: All craftable armors are now equal in armor rating to a full set of their vanilla equivalents (not including shields), Pirate Hat and Sweet Roll armors have been given unique armor ratings
Massively strengthened passive buffs for all (but one) of Redcap's existing craftable armors to make them much more situationally useful, and again more distinct from each other in function: Dwarven (Resist Shock) changed from 15% to 50%, Elven (Resist Magic) changed from 10% to 25%, Glass (Resist Shock and Frost) changed from 15% to 50%, Ebony (Resist Magic) changed from 20% to 50%, Daedric (Resist Fire) changed from 30% to 100%, Falmer (Resist Poison) remains unchanged at 50%
Changed passive buff of Redcap's Pirate Hat to Fortify Health 30 points + Waterbreathing instead of Fortify Marksman because Fortify Marksman enchantments do not actually work on followers (Waterbreathing means he will not regularly surface for air when underwater)
Changed Redcap's Sweet Roll armor from heavy armor to light armor
Removed gold value of Redcap's crafted Misc item armors (that the player makes and gives to Redcap)
Gave Redcap a custom class so that his skill in Light and Heavy armor will level equally and overall his skill points will distribute more to skills that matter as he levels
Set Bigpig to follow Redcap instead of the player when told to follow
Set Bigpig to follow Redcap when in his wereboar form so that if he fails to transform back to normal at combat end (usually due to combat starting and ending immediately with one shot kills with sneak archery) he will transform back at the end of the next combat automatically without the player needing to use the debug dialogue option
Increased Redcap's base magic resistance to 30% (up from 10%)
Made most of Redcap and Remiel's interaction scenes a bit more likely to fire
Made Redcap more likely to play fetch with Meeko
Set Redcap and Meeko's introduction scene to set Redcap and Meeko as allies to reduce infighting and stop the player from being able to order one to attack the other
Set intro scenes for all followers Redcap interacts with to set both forms of Bigpig as an ally to reduce infighting and stop the player from being able to order any of them to attack each other
Moved dialogue option for Redcap to teleport to the Village to be under About Adventuring Together rather than his main dialogue topics
Conditioned Redcap's summon spell lines that refer to the player as Dovahkaa to not be said if Redcap has been told not to call them that
Conditioned Redcap's idle lines about towns and cities to only play outdoors
Reduced frequency of Redcap's sugar rush idle lines when he has eaten a sweet roll and conditioned them to not play when sneaking
Conditioned Redcap burning scathecraw from his inventory to not occur while sneaking, and reduced frequency
Added conditions to Redcap's Wait Here lines to ensure that they can't play if he is already waiting

Fixed 'About Anise...' dialogue topic not appearing after introduction quest, adding several lines of dialogue
Redcap is a voice-acted & immersive Riekling follower with over 2500 lines of lore-friendly dialogue (with much more planned), a fully fleshed-out backstory, several original quests that build on existing Skyrim characters and locations, many unique, useful, & entertaining features and mechanics*see Features section below*, and a big personality that makes him MUCH more than what you would expect from a Riekling. Redcap is inspired by custom mod followers like Inigo (who he has banter and interactions with!) and Lucien Flavius, and is *NOT* an animal follower or a joke/gag character; he has his own thoughts, opinions, personality, & genuine character development with at times serious & impactful themes, and will comment, react to, & actively get involved in many things throughout your adventures, including choices you make! He also has a unique & fully custom appearance (which is explained in dialogue and in his personal quest) including a high quality new 3D model and custom textures for his helmet along with new textures for his skin, hair, armor, eyes, etc, and has his own custom follower framework meaning he can be used alongside ANY and all other followers (from mods or vanilla), some of which he will have interactions and commentary with!
Location & Backstory
You will find Redcap locked in the basement of Anise's Cabin (a short walk north of the Guardian Stones) There is an immersive roleplay reason to investigate Anise's Cabin added to the Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood for players who feel there isn't enough reason to break into an old woman's basement.
Redcap expands on the character of Anise by giving her new dialogue that plays out both in a scene with Redcap and with new dialogue with the player, along with details of her true purpose and experiments in a journal you will find in her basement when first meeting Redcap. Anise is no longer a small, random encounter, but a true villain who may even have more of a role to play in the future...(if Anise is already dead when you recruit Redcap, you will still be able to recruit him and progress his quest as usual, you will just miss out on some unique dialogue and scenes that add a lot to the experience of the mod)
Redcap's unique appearance and ability to communicate more effectively than most Rieklings is lore-friendly, and explained both in dialogue and in Anise's Journal. The inspiration for his name, appearance, and backstory is based on the redcaps from Dungeons & Dragons who are fey creatures often acting in the service of Hags or witches.

Show
You can feed Bigpig yourself using the dialogue option, or if Redcap is carrying any of the appropriate food items in his inventory he will randomly feed Bigpig around 3 times per day (or until he runs of out food) The buff temporarily raises Bigpig's maximum health, and does not stack, though additional feedings will refresh the buff's duration

or Scathecraw which will give him a temporary vitality boost
Spoiler:
Show
This effect does not stack, and raises Redcap's maximum health for a moderate period of time. Giving him more Scathecraw will refresh the effect's duration, but not increase the amount of health the buff gives. The dialogue option to give Redcap Scathecraw will appear at a certain quest stage during the Chief of Thirsk Hall quest, though he will consume Scathecraw randomly from his inventory before that
An equippable version of the Candlelight spell that will remain active indefinitely when equipped, doesn't require magicka, and does not use an equipment slot. Redcap will use the Candlelight if it is left in his inventory, or you can take it from him and use it yourself! (he may have comments about you or specific other creatures using his light...)
Spoiler:
Show
He will NOT be happy if you give one of the Thirsk Riekling followers his light!

Spoiler:
Show
If he has no spears in his inventory, a dialogue option will appear where you can ask him to craft spears from firewood. He can craft 50 spears per 3 firewood you give him
He is carrying an invisible bow (with lore explanation in Anise's journal) which will allow him to throw spears or arrows without seeing a bow in his other hand. He NEEDS a bow equipped to throw spears/arrows, you can choose the invisible bow to not see one, or give him any bow of your choice which he will hold in his off hand during battle (he will also benefit from any enchantments on an equipped bow like any other follower) Redcap will ONLY fight at range, and will not equip/use any melee weapons you give him.
REDCAP HAS 11 CUSTOM ARMORS that along with changing his appearance offer various passive buffs! Most of these can be crafted after asking him about armors, but certain special armors are unlocked by completing Redcap's quests or engaging in his other special mechanics! Full list of armors and how to get them:

Redcap has a stealth mode that will automatically activate when the player sneaks and Redcap is following. He is entirely undetectable by enemies when in stealth mode (unless they bump into him) making Redcap an ideal companion for stealthy playstyles! There is also a lore explanation for the shadow magic that makes this stealth mode possible in Anise's Journal.
Redcap can fight underwater! Take him with you on underwater adventures and he can help defend you from pesky slaughterfish.
Redcap levels with the player, he will always be balanced and viable in combat.
Redcap does not affect the player's stealth detection, and will not trigger traps
Redcap has a friendly fire perk that prevents him from ever accidentally damaging you.
Redcap is essential; you don't have to worry about accidentally killing him.
After Bigpig is recruited during Redcap's quest, Redcap can be asked to summon Bigpig in combat (choose the About Bigpig... dialogue option to access) Redcap will then summon Bigpig automatically when combat starts, and desummon him back to his pen when combat ends. Alternatively, Bigpig can be used as a fully functioning additional follower, though he will only obey your commands if Redcap is currently following you.
Compatibility
Redcap has his own unique follower framework, which means he is compatible with and can be used alongside ANY followers both from mods or the vanilla game. He does not use the vanilla framework OR the vanilla animal follower slot in any way, and in fact has specific commentary and interactions with every vanilla animal follower if used alongside them!
Redcap, like every other follower with a custom framework, is INCOMPATIBLE with Amazing Follower Tweaks (AFT), as AFT automatically imports all followers into its framework by simply having it installed, which breaks them and causes irreparable damage to their AI on any save that AFT was present on. Even when a custom framework follower has a script that attempts to add the follower to AFT's blacklist and prevent it from managing them, those scripts often fail, and it only takes them failing once for AFT to infect and ruin the follower. So to be clear: You should *never* have AFT installed alongside ANY custom framework follower (Redcap or otherwise) and if you use it alongside Redcap it will break him and he will not function as intended.
Other follower frameworks, like NFF, that do not automatically import followers into their frameworks, can be installed alongside custom framework followers (including Redcap) as long as you *do not use them to manage custom framework followers in any way*
Configurable Commentary Rate Slider should NOT be used with any mod follower, as it will break follower interactions, quest progression, and many other things by preventing important Idle lines from firing. Idle lines are not just random chatter comments as that mod implies, they are in fact used for many important things in follower mods, which that mod will break. All follower interaction scenes between mod followers, for example, are started through Idle lines, so if you want your followers to work properly, do not use that mod or turn its settings back to vanilla values if you already have it installed (it is included in popular mod packs, you may have it without realizing)
Redcap adds some small additions to a single location in Solstheim outside of Redcap's Village (which is its own interior cell, won't conflict with anything, and is entirely follower-friendly), and in the unlikely event that another mod alters/adds something in that exact spot there could be conflicts - The A Tale of Blood And Snow paid Creation is currently incompatible with Redcap, as it plops a dungeon entrance on top of Redcap's Village, breaking his quests. If someone would like to reach out to me for permission to make a patch fixing this, I would be open to hosting a patch in an official capacity on Bethesda.net, but until then it is incompatible/you will need to try to toggle collision with the console & hope that allows you to find the door to Redcap's Village for his quests to work. There are also some additions to one of the tiny islands near Solstheim, so again if another mod adds anything to that same spot it could conflict. I have tested Redcap extensively with over 1500 mods in my game and have chosen locations that I do not think have been used by any other mods, but I thought it was worth noting which vanilla areas have been added on to just in case.
The bridge outside of Redcap's Village is navmeshed, and followers can walk on it. However, there can be an issue with the entrance of the bridge when used with unmodded vanilla water where the water's current can pull followers to one side as they try to get onto the bridge. This is unfortunately unavoidable due to the very high placement of the current pull from vanilla water, if you want to fix this entirely I suggest using Realistic Water 2 (which does not have this issue), however to help Redcap get onto the bridge/close to the Village when doing his quest while using vanilla water, you can always use his summon spell.
