About this mod

An image space tweak and fixes for the textures and meshes of Skyrim's title and loading screens that don't play nicely with Vanilla HDR.

Overview:

The title screen and loading screens for Skyrim become way too bright when using Vanilla HDR. This mod changes the textures and meshes used on the title screen to account for the increase in brightness, and tweaks the loading screen image space to make their appearance more consistent with the vanilla game. Both the AE (gold) and SE (silver/grey) colour variations are fixed.

Diffuse textures were modified by cleaning the original vanilla images of compression artifacts, editing the image, and then recompressing the images using the BC7 compression format.

The main file of this mod is intended to be used with the vanilla Skyrim title screen appearance. That file is not compatible with mods that alter the title screen.

If you are using a title screen mod, download the .esp only file instead. This will mitigate the problem, but not entirely due to limits on the values used by image spaces. Although the screens using the modified image space will still be somewhat brighter than Vanilla Skyrim, the brightness should be at a more bearable level. The .esp contained in this mod is marked as a light plugin.

Requirements:

Installation:

Download the file corresponding to your mod set-up and install with the mod manager of your choice.

Compatibility:

The main file of this mod changes the following meshes and textures:

  • meshes\interface\intmenufogparticles.nif
  • meshes\interface\logo\logo.nif
  • meshes\interface\logo\logo01ae.nif
  • meshes\interface\logo\logo01ae_animated.nif

  • textures\interface\objects\logo01_d.dds
  • textures\interface\objects\logo01ae_d.dds
  • textures\interface\objects\logo02_d.dds

Any other mod that also changes these files will be incompatible.
Eg:

Mods that change only the .SWF files of the main menu should be compatible. Eg. No More Creation Club News, Classic Start Menu, etc.

The .esp only file changes LoadScreenIS [IMGS:000FF9DB]. Any other mods that also change that record will need a patch (although none exist that I'm aware of).

If you are using ENB, Vanilla HDR will be automatically disabled. Make sure that you also disable this mod if you plan on using ENB.

Feedback and comments are appreciated! Please report any problems in the "bugs" tab.

Known Issues:
  • Elements of the title screen will appear darker when the game first loads, but will resolve to their normal appearance once the game loads completely. You can see a visual change as the game initially loads in vanilla as well. This is likely due to imagespaces or shaders being loaded by the game.
