I love playing a mage in Skyrim. But one thing that's always bothered me is how you can barely get yourself a handful of novice spells at the start of your adventure. Spell tomes aren't cheap, after all, and if you decide to try to do a build without using alchemy, you'll find it very difficult to buy yourself the starter spells that you need. Previous Elder Scrolls games gave you a small selection of starting spells based on your class, and while there are mods that re-add the class system into the game, as well as mods that do give you the option to choose your starting spells, I was never really satisfied with any of them.

I wanted something simple that felt like it should have been part of the vanilla game all along. Surprisingly, I don't think anyone's done this before. Now races that get boosts (no matter if they're a major or minor skill) to any of the 5 magic skills will get one starter spell for each skill, expanding upon vanilla's implementation of additional spells for certain races. Now you can finally start your journey as a mage with a few more spells in your arsenal.



For easy reference, here are the spells that each race gets:



Argonian - Flames, Healing, Lesser Ward (Fury w/ Aetherius ver), Oakflesh

Breton - Conjure Familiar, Flames, Fury, Healing, Lesser Ward, Oakflesh

Dark Elf - Flames, Fury, Healing, Oakflesh (Conjure Familiar w/ Aetherius ver), Sparks

High Elf - Conjure Familiar, Flames, Fury, Healing, Lesser Ward, Oakflesh, Sparks

Imperial - Flames, Healing, Lesser Ward, Sparks (Vanilla only)

Khajiit - Flames, Healing

Nord - Flames, Healing

Orc - Flames, Healing

Redguard - Flames, Healing, Oakflesh (Vanilla only), Sparks (Vanilla only)

Wood Elf - Flames, Healing



There's also a version of the script for users of Aetherius - A Race Overhaul that changes some spells given out based on Aetherius' changes to racial skills, as well as a patch for Lost Races of Aetherius that adds support for the new races.
