A splash screen replacer for Parapets' Desktop Splash Screen using official Skyrim Anniversary Edition art. Other variants available that follow that similar style.

The goal is to have a splash that resembles the default splash of Desktop Splash Screen, with that neat black leather background and clean elements, the same style present in the official splash art used for publishing and advertising the game.

Choose one from the available splashes:
  • Anniversary Edition
  • Special Edition
  • Special Edition White (Custom made by me)
  • Special Edition Gold (Custom made by me)

Requirements
  • Desktop Splash Screen - For the SKSE plugin that makes this possible.
  • (Only required for Randomizer option) Main Menu Randomizer SE - Provides a plugin that, on the game startup, randomly selects only one directory from a pool of candidates and only uses the files on the selected directory in the game. Originally intended to be used to randomize the main menu, by setting up multiple main menu images of which only one is chosen at the startup. However, it also works for Desktop Splash Screen, by setting up the splash.png files in a specific file structure just like we would for main menus: we can put it inside a source directory/folder (default for the mod is mainmenuwallpapers). Check the section "How and Why Randomizer works" to better understand it.

How and Why Randomizer works

Here is the detailed tutorial:
  • Download Main Menu Randomizer SE.
  • The way the randomizer works is it checks the "Data/mainmenuwallpapers" folder for any directories. It chooses one of those directories and puts all the content that is inside the "Data" folder of that directory into the final "Data" folder.
  • The mod also provides a way to configure multiple different source folders, so we can pick/randomize different stuff without them conflicting (e.g. it picks one main menu wallpaper and then picks a splash art). The randomization option that comes with this mod introduces a new source "Data/desktopsplashes", included in a modified MainMenuRandomizer.config.toml file that overrides the one from the Randomizer.
  • Therefore, any splash replacer that you want simply needs to be in a directory under a source folder. For example, if you have two splash.png files that you want to randomize, you create two directories under the "desktopsplashes" folder, and in each of those directories you need Data/Interface/splash.png.

Example file structure:
Data/
    desktopsplashes/
        replacer1/
            Data/
                Interface/
                    splash.png
        replacer2/
            Data/
                Interface/
                    splash.png

Obviously you can put each splash.png separately in its own mod folder, as long as it is respecting the file structure by being under "desktopsplashes" (or other configured source).

WARNING: The Main Menu Randomizer WILL overwrite whatever default splash.png file is currently at use. For example, if you only have Desktop Splash Screen's default splash.png, regardless of whether it is "safely" stored in a standalone mod directory in Mod Organizer, the Randomizer will literally replace the splash.png. This might not be an issue to you as you probably intended to replace the default anyway, but in case you have another replacer, it's not good to completely erase it like that. This mod already includes a dummy splash.png, so you don't have to worry, but otherwise, to fix it, just create another mod with a splash.png and place it with higher priority in the load order (below in the list / after) to serve as dummy when the replacement happens.

Installation
Download the desired splash individually, or use the FOMOD installer.

FOMOD available with an option for a randomizer, allowing you to choose multiple splashes, and one of them being chosen at random at the start up of the game. Requires Main Menu Randomizer SE.
Randomizer with my splashes works right out of the box by using the FOMOD, and I highly recommend it.

In either case, load this mod's files AFTER the files of those mods (Desktop Splash Screen and Main Menu Randomizer SE).

Artwork
Official art belongs to Bethesda.
Art is either the official art of the game that is used for publishing and advertising, or publicly available modifications to that art.
Any current or future artwork that is custom designed by me will properly be marked as such.

The images needed to be cropped and/or resized to the required 835x400 to work with the mod.
