Welcome to PCR!

With this little project, I aim to improve the pre-rendered cutscenes found In-Game. There aren't a lot of them, but their
original 720P @ 30FPS quality with a lot of noise is rather distracting whenever they come up.
I went ahead and upscaled them to 1080P, de-noised them and used frame interpolation to get them to 60FPS.
All languages are supported. Multiplayer cutscenes were not modified.
Feel free to read the FAQ at the bottom for more information.
I hope you enjoy the mod!

7/14/24 UPDATE: I have received info about an error when installing the files. I have not been able to reproduce said error. However, during my testing, it appears that the sound of the cutscenes was not playing. Restarting the game fixed it for me.

Installation:

- Open the .rar file
- Drag and drop the SRGame folder into your game's root install path and replace the files
Example: "steamapps\common\SpecOps_TheLine"

Please, always have backups!

Q&A

Q -
Can you upscale the cutscenes to 4K instead of 1080P?

A -
It is possible, but I don't think it will help much as too much detail would be lost.

Q - Are these the absolute best we can get out of the original cutscenes?

A - I'm not sure. There's always new and better AI models which will take even longer to upscale. I'm also at the mercy of RAD Video Tools, more below about that.

Q - Why are the new .bik files so large compared to the original files?

A - RAD Video Tools is old and honestly a pain to use, but necessary for the creation of .bik files the game uses. I had to compress the upscaled video with this tool which has a tendency to create a lot of noise, so I brute forced my way with a larger bitrate to try to keep the quality up. Even then, there's a bit of noise introduced compared to the raw .mp4 file, but I had to compromise on size too.

Q - Will new versions of this mod be released?

A -
I'm not sure as it takes a significant amount of testing, rendering, compressing and re-mixing the audio to get the final result. Maybe on a per-cutscene basis. The game is also 12 years old :)

Q - What does "All languages are supported" means?

A - Each .bik file contains a total of 13 different audio tracks, with a total of 6 languages. Every audio track had to be re-mixed into each corresponding .bik file, otherwise you wouldn't get any dialogue if the audio track in your corresponding language was missing.
