Star Citizen is well known for its challenges with maintaining the order of joystick devices. Unfortunately, this problem can and will occur for you at some point. Typically, you would use the Star Citizen "swap" command, but that is challenging given the number of vJoys being used. A less-than-ideal method has been created to help you renumber the Star Citizen Control Profile to accommodate Star Citizen's numbering scheme.

There are two things that need to be done:

  • Determine the order of vJoy devices within Star Citizen
  • Renumber the devices in the Control Profile

Determine vJoy Device Order
  • Download the vJoyRenumber.zip from the Miscellaneous section of the Files tab. Unzip the file into a folder (recommend putting where you are storing your profiles, but anywhere will work).
  • Open Joystick Gremlin SC and load the profile that came in the zip - vJoy Check. Activate the profile.
  • Open Star Citizen, go to Options, then Keybindings and Advanced Controls Customization. Change to Joystick/HOTAS.
  • Expand any of the Control Categories.
  • Double Click on a Control to rebind it and once it says waiting, press 1 on your keyboard. Write done the Input Number. (If there is no number, that is vJoy #1)
  • Do the same thing for 2 - 5. Write down order of the devices.
  • Back out to the Main Menu

Renumber the Control Profile (requires Joystick Gremlin SC 13.40.9-sc.6 or later)
  • In Joystick Gremlin, select “SC vJoy Mapper” from the Tools menu
  • Fill in the order of the vJoys you discovered from above
  • Select the base Control Profile for your SC version ex. layout_JG_StarCitizenMapping_X-X-X_exported.xml (this needs to be a fresh version from the Files section).
  • Select your Star Citizen installation by choosing the appropriate folder (LIVE, PTU, EPTU)
  • Click on the bottom button to generate an updated Control Profile. It places it in your installation folder for you automatically.
  • Go back into Star Citizen and reload the Control Profile (JG_StarCitizenMappings_X.X.X).
  • Load your Joystick Gremlin profile again and you should be good to go.

TIP: You must return to the Main Menu after determining the vJoy order. If not, Star Citizen will not load the updated Control Profile. If import didn’t work, try going to the Main Menu and returning to the Keybindings to import again.
