Isn't it weird there's this random old guy just selling a Mermaid's Pendant even though mermaids are not rare or shy in Stardew Valley? Let them sell the pendant themselves!

This mod replaces the Old Mariner with a Mermaid, complete with her own custom dialogue. She would also have her own portrait if you have Portraits for Vendors installed.

For modders: I meant this as some sort of an example on how to customize portraits for the Mariner. If you are making a mod that alters the Mariner and want to add your own portraits, feel free to take a peek on this mod's json to see how it's done.

Latest Update
Added special compatibility with Swim - Continued that makes one of the secret places it can reach a mermaid's retreat, with map forged by the wonderful Tenebrous Nova.

 

Special Mod Interactions
  • Portraits for Vendors does what it says on the tin. If you have it installed, the mermaid would also have portraits.
  • Seasonal Mermaid's Pendant alters the pendant's appearance into several pretty designs that change according to seasons. If you have it installed, the mermaid would also wear this changing pendant.
  • Nyapu's Portraits gives Nyapu's uniquely cute artstyle to various SDV characters. If you have it installed, the mermaid's portrait would also be Nyapu's art.
  • Seasonal Mariner To Mermaid introduces four mermaids in place of the mariner. With it installed, my mermaid will join them, appearing during stormy days.
  • Maritime Secrets gives hints to the game's various secrets and hidden mechanics, giving you a reason to visit the beach regularly. If you have the mod installed, the mermaid would have her own unique flavor lines.
  • Swim - Continued provides the ability to swim and dive to reach various secret locations. One of them would be the mermaid's retreat.
Installation
  • Make sure you have Content Patcher installed.
  • Download Give the Mermaid Her Pendant Back.
  • Extract the downloaded file into the game's Mods folder.
To uninstall, simply delete [CP] Give the Mermaid Her Pendant Back from your Mods folder.

Compatibility
  • Only works with Stardew Valley version 1.6 and later.
  • Will conflict with any mod that alters the Old Mariner's appearance except Seasonal Mariner To Mermaid, which has special interaction with this mod.
Translations
This mod uses i18n. If you want to make a translation for it, feel free to either give it to me (so I could incorporate it into the mod) or upload them yourself (do tell me so I can link to them!).
