Aeons ago, the world was filled with only dark and light. Then, from the shadows emerged the Darkwings clan, and the light, the Brightwings. Being polar opposites, they could never exist in harmony, and thus, a thousand year war ensued between the two clans that splintered reality and created the rest of existence. Afterwards, the two clans faded into obscurity, their existence known only via myths and whispers... but now, after untold millennia, they have begun to appear in the material world once again, albeit in a rather unexpected, feathery form...
Once you have at least one Void Chicken on your farm, expect to receive a new letter from their rivals, the Brightwing tribe, that kickstarts your questline. For full progression details, see the spoilers tab below.
PART 1 - Spooky, Spooky Void Chickens
Void Chickens are now spookier than your regular run-of-the-mill chickens. They produce darkness, move extremely fast like shadows, can go outside even during winter and rain, and will even attack you (for a measly 1 damage) occasionally. You didn't think raising living shadows would be that easy, would you?
(If this is too annoying you can disable it in the config)
They still produce Void Eggs as usual, but extremely rarely (or guaranteed on Spirit's Eve), they will instead produce a Void Totem, a mysterious item that can be used to enter their home dimension once a day. Make sure to bring with you a powerful weapon, lots of healing items, and a Farm Totem/Return Scepter in case things get too hot for your liking.
PART 2 - The Shadows are Hungry
Once you enter the Void Arena, expect to be swarmed by dozens of Void Chickens from all directions. These chickens when slain will always drop a Void Egg, some Void Essence, and occasionally a few other rare items, making this arena a very lucrative way of making money by farming hundreds of eggs. Be careful however, for their speed, lethality, and numbers will grow exponentially over time, so don't get caught unprepared and make use of those healing items!
After two hours, the assault will cease, and you'll be teleported back to the farm. The next day, the Brightwing tribe will send you valuable rewards depending on how many eggs you collected in the Arena.
- < 50 Eggs: 5 Golden Pumpkins
- 50-100 Eggs: 5 Golden Pumpkins + 5 Prismatic Shards
- 100-200 Eggs: 5 Golden Pumpkins + 5 Prismatic Shards + 3 Golden Animal Crackers
- > 200 Eggs: The above + a Goose Totem...
Additionally, regardless of your results, visiting the Arena for the first time will give you the recipe for the Void Totem so you can visit it at your own leisure. Getting >200 eggs on the second time onward will also grant you the Void Chicken Statue, a device that produces a boon of 50 Void Essence every day.
PART 3 - THEY COMETH
Once you use the Goose Totem,

EPILOGUE - IT IS TOO LATE
If you have Stardew Valley Expanded or Visit Mount Vapius, you may notice some (cosmetic only) changes to a certain farm animal that these mods add...
INSTALLATION:
- Install SMAPI, Content Patcher, and Extra Animal Config.
- Then unzip this mod into the Mods folder as usual
- NOTE: This mod is safe to install mid-save, however if your save is currently on Spirit's Eve the Void Chickens will not make Void Totems. This is a game limitation (animal produce are already determined before saving on day start)
- Multiplayer should be compatible (only the host may use the Void Totem, which will also teleport all nearby farmhands into the Arena), but untested. Please let me know of any issues you run into, and keep some Farm Totems/Return Scepters on hand (or use CJB Item Spawner) in case you get stranded in the other dimension.
FUTURE ROADMAP: Because this mod was made for a 3-week mod jam its scope was a bit smaller than I wanted. Possible futures (provided I don't feel lazy) include:
- A more fleshed out map for both the Darkwings and the Brightwings' home dimension
- Don't lose items on death
- More combat arena features (monster variations, healing zones, etc.), and more rewards
- More produce for the Void Chickens to make aside from Void Eggs and the totem
- Compat with other Goose mods
- Make Void Chicken arena monsters compatible with reskins
- Make a certain Statue obtainable by letting yourself get beat up instead of getting from a chest.
