Introducing the Distillery, a new farm building that distills a small variety of crops into artisan alcohols. The Distillery isn't available at the very beginning of the game, though; after participating in a certain ill-advised potato juice experiment, a new Special Order will become available. Once this order is completed, Robin will receive plans for a new distillery and will be able to build it on your farm. This requires:
25,000 g
10 Hardwood
7 Copper Bar
1 Iron Bar
The Distillery building allows you to put in specific crops and will process them into alcohols overnight. While specifics can vary per process, this generally requires groups of items being processed into a smaller number of resulting alcohols, with a price that tends to be the item's base price x2, accounting for however many items are required. This results in a smaller number of higher priced items, which can all then be aged in Casks. These processes are:
- 5 Potatoes make Vodka
Sells for 800g
2 produced per day - 3 Cactus Fruit (no star and silver star) make Mezcal
Sells for 450g
3 produced per day - 5 Cactus Fruit (gold and iridium star) make Tequila
Sells for 1120g
1 produced per day - 3 Wine make Brandy
Sells for 1350g
2 produced per day - 3 Grape Wine make Cognac
Sells for 1500g
1 produced per day - The grains Wheat, Corn, or Amaranth can be placed in the Dehydrator to make Malt
5 Wheat produce 1 Wheat Malt
5 Corn produce 1-2 Corn Malt
5 Amaranth produce 1-3 Amaranth Malt - Wheat Malt makes Whisky
Sells for 1000g
1 produced per day - Corn Malt makes Bourbon
Sells for 1100g
1 produced per day - Amaranth Malt makes Scotch
Sells for 1600g
1 produced per day - Unmalted Grains (Wheat, Corn, and Amaranth) make Moonshine
2 Wheat, 3 Corn, or 4 Amaranth produce 1 Moonshine
3 produced per day, sells for 500g but the governor doesn't like it and you can't ship it. You'll have to ask around to find out where to sell it...
While the Distillery can only process a limited number of each item per day, you can place however many you want in the building and leave them there; the Distillery will process its number per day, and the output items will continue to stack and hold until you pick them up. Additionally, the Distillery counts each item conversion separately, so you can place a stack of potatoes and a stack of cactus fruit in it, and the next day it will have 2 Vodka and 3 Mezcal ready for you.
So you don't have to keep checking this mod for the processes or commit them to memory, once you start shipping alcohols made through your Distillery, Gus will send you a letter with some Distillation Notes which detail what crops (and how many) distill into which alcohols.
Cornucopia Compatible
In addition to alcohols made from vanilla crops, there are also a few extra alcohols and processes that can be made if you have Cornucopia's More Crops. These include:
- 5 Juniper Berries make Gin
Sells for 375g
3 produced per day - 3 Almonds make Amaretto
Sells for 540g
3 produced per day - 5 Sugarcane make Cachaça
Sells for 450g
2 produced per day - 3 Molasses (a byproduct of milling Sugarcane and Sugar Beets) make Rum
Sells for 900g
2 produced per day - 5 Barley, Buckwheat, and Durum make Malt in the Kiln or Drying Rack
Barley, Buckwheat or Durum Malt make Whisky - 4 Barley, Buckwheat, or Durum can also be distilled directly to make Moonshine
- 2 Agave make gold star Mezcal
- 2 Blue Agave make gold star Tequila
Machine Progression System Compatible
While the prices and processes were designed and optimized with vanilla game behavior in mind, by request all Dehydrator and Cask processes also have Machine Progression System compatibility. If that mod is installed, you'll be able to make grain malts and cask any of the alcohols made for this mod in the higher level Dehydrators and Casks of MPS. Items and processes added through the Custom.json or other mods will need MPS compatibility added on their own.
Do you like the building but have your own alcohol items? You can mod this mod!
All alcohol objects, conversion processes, and additional machine processes (like the grains to malts and casking) are stored on their own and can be turned off through the config file. The option "Products" can be set between "HarrisonGrey" (that's me!), which includes my file; "Custom", which includes a separate file in the assets folder which you can customize however you want; or "None", which turns off all processes in this mod, leaving you room to make your own separate mod that can edit this one. Additionally, any other mod can be used to add processes to the Distillery building simply by targeting the fields [ "Distillery", "ItemConversions" ] as long as that mod includes this one as a dependency; new processes added by other mods can add to the ones found here or replace them entirely. More details are available in the Articles tab.
Other Config Options
If using the built in alcohols found in this mod, the config option "MaltMachine" allows you to change the machine that processes Wheat, Corn, and Amaranth into various Malts; by default, this is the "Dehydrator", but you can choose "Kiln" (if, for instance, another mod already uses the Dehydrator to process Wheat, Corn, and/or Amaranth into something) or "Drying Rack" (if you have Cornucopia - Artisan Machines installed).
For players installing this mod into an existing farm or for whatever reason just want to make the Distillery available immediately, there is also the "JustGiveIt" config option. Please note, by default the Distillery's availability is conditional on the player having received a letter from a Special Order added by this mod. If JustGiveIt is set to true, that letter is immediately counted as received, and the Distillery will be permanently available on that save, even if JustGiveIt is set back to false. The Special Order will still show up. If you would like to just get the Distillery on one save but still want to unlock it via the Special Order on future saves, just remember to set JustGiveIt back to false once you've built the Distillery.

All sprites included in this file are made by me, except for the Malt. It's the old PPJA sprite, albeit recolored to match the color of the crops it's made from here. I really intended to make my own sprite but I've been using this one for so long while I came up with my own version of the Distillery and I just really like it. I'm not sure who originally made it, but thank you, and if you object to me using it here please just let me know.
