Have you played Stardew Vally more times than you care to admit? Are you tired of Starfruit Wine empires and Pig Hordes and want to try new exciting ways of making money but it just doesn't feel worth it? Then this might be for you. Stardew Valley Balance Overhaul, originally created by Theoddon, is a massive overhaul of Stardew Valley that aims to make all aspects of the game feel equally rewarding while also increasing longevity by reducing the oppertunities of making massive amount of money in a short amount of time.

Do you like to suffer and want to make combat harder? There are multiple options to choose from, making monsters increasingly more deadly. Or you could turn it off and fight the way you're used to.

Every change this mod makes can be turned off in the config and some of them have multiple settings depending on your preferred playstyle.
Any translations are much appreciated!

Main Features
  • Crops and animals are now closer in profits. Expect more profits early game and less profits late game.
  • Option for Artisan Goods to have a chance to increase in quantity when using quality ingredients.
  • Large animal products now produce 2 products when processed. This scales with quality if enabled.
  • Fish sell prices are now mostly based on catch difficulty and have a flatter curve, resulting in more consistent profits.
  • Buffs have been added to most food and most buff durations have been increased.
  • Artisan machines are harder to craft to help balance out mid/late game. 3 difficulty options.
  • Various recipes have been tweaked to make lesser used things more desirable, such as slime huts and tree tappers.
  • Food sell prices now match the base ingredients + 10% profit. Does not scale with quality ingredients.
  • Shop prices and inventories have been adjusted and you can no longer obtain an infinite amount of several resources.
  • Many items have had their categories changed. Some Artisan Goods are now solely Fish or Animal Products, to make the Artisan profession less of a necessity.
  • Fruit Trees have two different balancing options to chose from, either more accessible Cheaper Saplings or higher long term profit More Valuable Produce.
  • The value of flowers have been changed and flower honey prices are now much closer together.
  • Mines now have more consistent profits regardless of the floor you are on.
  • Monster strength has been adjusted. 3 difficulty options. Monsters do more damage but generally have less health on lower difficulties.
  • Crafting bait, bombs, fertilizers, lures, and warp totems is now more sustainable.
  • Some annoying ingredients in certain recipes were removed (corals, clams, coal, etc).
  • Buildings that directly affect profits now cost more while others cost less.
  • Some Monster Eradication Goals require less kills.
  • Museum rewards are now in a better order and more rewarding.

Built in balancing for Stardew Valley Expanded (Including 1.15 content), Ridgeside Village, East Scarp, Distant Lands

More in deapth information about the changes can be found in Articles.

Quality of Life Features
  • Willy buys fishing poles, Marnie buys shears & milk pails, Clint buys weapons and armor.
  • Marnie sells Auto-Petter after Community Center completion.
  • Harvey's Clinic sells life elixirs.
  • Silo holds 1000 hay.

Mods that pair well with this one:

  • Fresh Farm Produce, will reward you for divesifying your farm production and giving a valid reason to sell unprocessed goods if you so wish
  • Ferngill Simple Economy, adds supply and demand to the market, disincentivizing only selling one thing and making optimal production more dynamic
  • Walk of Life, expansive overhaul of vanilla professions, fixing some of the issues this mod doesn't and just generally being fun
  • Aquarism, improves fishpond viability in a variety of ways

Additional notes regarding compatability:
  • If you're playing with Walk of Life, I recommend setting Breeder Animal Value multiplier to 2.5 (or at least lower than 10).
  • If you're playing with Walk of Life, or another Artisan Goods Copy Quality mod (this one for example) you should set Artisan Goods to Large Animal Products Make 2 in the SVBO - Continued Config
  • If you're playing with Walk of Life I recommend disabling Item Categories in the SVBO - Continued Config.
  • If you're playing with Walk of Life you should disable Golden Mayo and Ostrich Mayo in the Walk of Life config.
  • If you're playing with Walk of Life and Cornucopia Artisan Machines, I recommend that you remove (BC)Cornucopia_DeluxeSmoker from DaLion.Professions/assets/data/CornucopiaArtisanMachines.json. If you need help with this feel free to ask. If the need arises I might upload a drag and drop replacement for this specific file. Removing this will cause the Smoker to always copy quality, even after you aquire the Artisan Profession.
  • If you're playing with Cornucopia Artisan Machines and have the Juicer enabled, I recommend disabling Vegetable Wine.

Mods used in screenshots not already mentioned:

Future plans:
  • Adjusting the time it takes to age various goods to make up for the general price decrease. Right now there is no fruit valuable enough to make the 2 season wait feel worth it (to me). Cheese is still in a good spot, especially with Cornucopia Artisan Machines, but the other alcoholic beverages could use a slight decrease in aging time, including modded ones.
  • Making the seed and bait version of the "Artisan Goods Gain Quantity" setting an optional QoL feature instead, so it can be used with any of the Artisan Goods settings.
  • I'm happy to recieve suggestions on how to improve the balancing feature of the mod. I play Stardew Valley a lot, but I'm only one person and there will be things I miss. I'm especially interested in how people percieve the fish balancing. The Original SVBO followed a more strict pricing structure depending on the difficulty of the catch, but some fish have massive hurdles you have to jump over in order to get a decent amount of them. If there are fishable areas you feel just aren't worth the effort let me know.
  • Also report any potential exploits, for example one shop selling something a lot cheaper than another. I'm aware that some Cornucopia seeds are cheaper at Jojamart than at Pierres. This cannot be changed at this moment but will be fixed after the next Cornucopia More Crops/Flowers update.

Regarding additional mod integration, you are welcome to come with suggestions but unless it's a mod I already play with it is unlikely to arrive anytime soon. If you really want a specific mod balanced I recommend looking into it yourself. Content Patcher makes it incredibly easy to make a wide range of changes with no prior coding experience and you can use this mod and many other as a base for your code. I also recommend joining the Stardew Valley discord if you haven't already. People in the making mods general chat are incredibly helpful and can point you in the right direction if you get lost.

That said, there are some mods that I most likely will add integration for eventually, roughly in this order:I will not make any promises or estimated release dates. Some of these will likely only be partly rebalanced.

Please do not reupload this version of the mod.
If you want to make your own version of SVBO, the original mod is till open and free for anyone to rewrite and reupload.
