Created by workingorder: The Pickaxe is now a Hammer in the Selection Bar. The animation of swinging a Pickaxe still shows a Pickaxe. I never played Minecraft, so I associate breaking rocks with Hammers instead of Pickaxes.

Created by workingorder: Changes the look of the Hoe and the Axe in the Selection Bar. The animations when actually swinging these tools are unchanged.
Updates the look of the Pickaxe, Axe, Hoe, Scythe, Gold Scythe, and/or Water Can on the Selection Bar to a much cooler, 3/4 view. The designs are all based on the same tools in Harvest Moon for the SNES. Each tool's change can be turned on or off in the config.
The original mod was Tool Icon Replacement by workingorder. Unfortunately workingorder's mod hasn't been updated since 03 October 2016 at 3:34PM and is not compatible with SMAPI or Content Patcher. The new version does work with SMAPI and CP and has a config to chose which tools you want to change!
INSTALLATION Just unzip and drop the folder into \Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods Changing any value from 'Enabled' to 'Disabled' in 'content.json' will revert that tool to its default icon.
