"Valued Customer,

Thank you for opening an account to use the new Trade Authority Dropbox.

Dropboxes can be found at all participating Trade Authority franchises. How do you use the Dropbox? It's easy! Simply deposit any number of items, of any value, in the Dropbox. Our friendly and helpful franchisees will then despatch your items to our warehouse, where we will sort, value, and despatch them across the settled systems to be sold. As your items are sold, their value will be transferred to your account via GalBank courier ship, wherever you may be in the Settled Systems!

We look forward to your future custom, and will strive to provide you with the very high level of service for which we are renowned!"

Overview

This is another mod to make selling loot in Starfield less annoying. Bethesda's game setting can be used to increase the number of credits that traders carry, at the cost of experience. This mod allows a differnt trade off; convenience for credits. You can dump any quantity of items in the dropbox, and each day you'll receive a payout of the value of items deposited (between 45k and 65k credits each day, rising with your commerce skill) until the value of the items has been paid off. There will be a random variation of between +- 5k credits on each payment (emulating varying supply and demand), but that won't effect the final value received when all payments have been made.

A handling fee will be charged, which will depend on your commerce skill. At a skill rankof 0, the handling charge will be 30%, falling to 10% with a commerce skill rank of 4. This makes the dropbox most useful in the later stages of the game, when loot flows like water and you've already done the rounds of the traders and picked up any quests they may offer.

You can find the dropboxes at the Trade Authority locations in New Atlantis, Akila City, Neon, Cydonia, The Den and The Key, and beside most Trade Authority kiosks.

You can also build dropboxes at your outposts (under 'Miscellaneous' in the outpost builing menu), but they will only work if they are built close to a landing pad (cargo link pads count). Trade Authority couriers refuse to touch down without a landing pad!

To avoid turning this into an inventory management minigame, the dropboxes are implemented in the same way as the Trade Authority kiosks so you can sell direct from your ship's hold, except that the upfront price they offer is zero on all items. The payout you get will be automatically credited to you every 24 Universal Time hours until all the stock you've deposited has been paid off, but you can deposit more stock at any time. The dropbox will be emptied when you leave the area it's located

Attached to each dropbox (except the ones you build at your outpost) you can find a slate which will always tell you the number of payments you've received, the number of hours to the next payment, and the value of stock remaining. The slate will update every in-game hour (approximately 3 minutes in real time), and there is an option to make the slate a quest item so you can't accidentally lose or sell it. If you don't choose this option and do lose the slate you can just pick up one of the others.

Installation

Before installing, make sure your character isn't in the same load area as a Dropbox. In the Lodge is a safe place, for example. If you do install the mod while your character is in the same load area as a Dropbox, leave and re-enter that area before trying to use that Dropbox.

It's best to install using a mod manager (eg Vortex or MO2). To install manually, copy the .esm and .ba2 files from the .zip file to your Starfield Data folder.

Updating

If you're updating from V1.0;

  • Wait until the slate shows Remaining Stock Value as 0.
  • Make sure your character isn't in the same load area as a Dropbox, such as any Trade Authority location or any spaceport with a Trade Authority kiosk. In the Lodge is a safe place, for example.
  • Make a permanent save (A).
  • Exit the game and remove the mod from your load order, either using the in-game Creations option, or your mod manager of choice.
  • Re-enter the game. When prompted, do not try to reacquire the missing mod, and select the 'Current' load order.
  • Load you last save (A) and make a permanent save (B).
  • Exit the game, and install the new version of the mod (or update it using your mod manager of choice). Re-enable the mod in your load order.
  • Restart the game and load your permanent save (B).

The slate you had will have disappeared from your inventory, so you'll need to pick up another. I'm sorry for the involved update process; I tried to make this update savegame safe but I goofed somewhere.

Compatibility

This mod only adds some items to the game world, and moves some pieces of static clutter, so it will only be incompatible with mods that make significant changes to the layout of the Trade Authority locations or the spaceports around the Trade Authority kiosks. Any mods which change the sale bonuses awarded by the Commerce skill will work, but won't have any effect on the value received for items deposited in the dropboxes.
