Intro

 "NOW THIS is Podracing!"
- Anakin Skywalker

Half-covered in hand-polished sparkling royal chromium, Naboo N-1 Starfighter was originally reserved only for Naboo Royal Air Force pilots who fought for the Queen, Amidala. Arguably the most streamlined and simplistic starship ever designed, N-1 boasts top-class speed and maneuverability on par with X-wing thanks to the most aerodynamic design and the sublime sub-light engine. Her sleek and simplistic design embodies the philosophy behind the respect for nature and clean environmental sustainability that the people of Naboo prized with pride. Now you can fly her to the ends of the Starfield galaxy. Enjoy!

Installation
=============================================
Use MO2 or Vortex
Manual install not recommended or supported.

While In-Game

As of Version 2.1 the fully assembled ship can be found on Vectera.
  • Land at Argos Extractors Mining Outpost
  • Walk behind landing pad as shown in video or use your surface map
  • Dismiss followers and reassign ship crew (this is a single-pilot fighter)
  • Flip switch in front of ship pad to add it to your fleet and make it your home ship
  • Board (straight to cockpit, or board and sit) and fly away.
  • Remember to register your new ride!
Or you may build her yourself! (instructions below)

User Manual
=============================================

This ship is iconoclastic in nature (unconventionally constructed and designed), so there are a few things to keep in mind.

There is no bay interior.
- To activate the ship, simply stand under the "belly" of the ship. You will be stopped by an "invisible" ladder door  and a message box will appear in 0.5 sec. I recommend you to choose "cockpit" option preferably when boarding N-1 because it's smooth and direct and fast that way. But if you choose "board" option, you will sometimes find youself standing "through" the cockpit window or the bubble canopy, which kind of breaks the immersion. If I were able to animate the bubble canopy of N-1 to open and close automatically, I would not let this happen. At any rate, I did my best to meticulously adjust the the position of boarding by millimeters to prevent this, but it can still occur. In that case, just activate the pilot seat to sit. Regardless, most of times it works with no issue.

There is (practically) no interior.
- Once you "get up" during flight in space or when landed, you can move around a little (4-5 steps). You can move 7-10 steps when entering the ship from docked ships or shipyards in space. Then you can activate the ship cargo hold, navigation console, captain's locker and of course a pilot seat to begin piloting the ship. But that's pretty much it. And..I am sorry, there is no bathroom, nor an espresso machine. ;-)

There are no landing gears in sight. (They are hidden inside the hull.)

- Just as seen in the movie. (This is due to Naboo's concern for minimizing the damage to the natural environment.)

There are no room for your companions.
- This should be obvious. The N-1 is a single-pilot ship. No other humans but you are allowed in the vessel, which means you have to dismiss your companions beforehand. This is an absolute must! Otherwise, you will see them fall into the weirdest trap due to the absence of collision or too much collision (stuttering violently) They will act weird like going up and down infinitely.  Do make sure to dismiss them. If it is not possible to dismiss, say, Sarah, proceed with your main questline and at some point, you will be able to dismiss them.

Build Manual (if you choose to)
=============================================
The starship consists of 15 parts.

1. N-1 Hab (Hab)
2. N-1 Cockpit (Cockpit)
3. N-1 bay (Bay)
4. N-1 Nano module mount (Struct)
5. N-1 Scan Jammer (Equipment)
6. N-1 Reactor (C-Class) (Reactor)
7. N-1 Monarc C-4 Hyperdrive (Grav)
8. N-1 shielded cargo (Cargo)
9. N-1 Shield (Shield)
10.       N-1 Fuel tank (Fuel)
11.       2 N-1 J-type Nubian 221 Sublight Engines (Engine)
12.       2 N-1 Landers (Gear)
13.       2 N-1 Laser Cannons (Laser), 1 N-1 Proton torpedo (Missile),  1 N-1 Suppressor (EM) (Weapon)
14.       N-1 Docker (Docker)
15.       Naboo N-1 Starfighter Fuselage (Struct)

Building time: average 15 minutes (min 10 min. ~ max 30 min.)
Follow the simple 13 steps. (video build guide below)

1. Place N-1 Hab (Hab) in your ship builder.
2. Place N-1 cockpit (Cockpit) on the fore side of the hab.
3. Place N-1 module mount (Struct) at the bottom of the cockpit.
4. Place N-1 bay (Bay) at the btm of the hab.
5. Place Nano-modules on the module mount - N-1 Scan jammer,  Reactor, Grav, Cargo, Shield, and Fuel tank.
    They are really tiny, so magnify your screen to the max for better visibility and precise manipulation. (Refer to the media section for pictures.)
    When it doesn't snap immediately, try adjusting its height by pressing "R" (up) or "F" (down) a few times to see if each module snaps.
6. Place N-1 Engine - Port (Engine) on the port side of the hab.
7. Place N-1 Engine - Stbd (Engine) on the stbd side of the hab.
    (You can click the port Engine and Press Ctrl+G to duplicate and Press Z to flip it to get Stbd Eng and then attach.)
8. Place 2 N-1 Landers (Port and Stbd) on the corresponding side of cockpit.
    They are extremely small and when you duplicate and flip it, you might have trouble finding stbd lander.
    Zoom out and find it and attach it to the stbd side of cockpit.
9. Place 2 N-1 Laser cannons on each side (port and stbd) of the Nano module mount. You can duplicate and attach.
10. Place 1 N-1 Proton torpedo under the Nano module mount  (btm fore)
11. Place 1 N-1 Suppressor on top (top fore)   (Refer to the picture in the media section)
12. Place N-1 docker (R2D2) (Docker) on top of the hab.
13. Finally, place Naboo N-1 Starfighter Fuselage (Struct) on top of the cockpit. (If it stays red, change your ini setting's ship module tolerance to -4)
      When it doesn't snap perfectly, try adjusting its height, if necessary, by pressing "R" (up) or "F" (down).

Paint Job
=============================================
1. Fuselage -Click and press "J" to color Fuselage. Change the color to bright red.
2. Docker -  Change the Astromech's head color to dark royal blue or dark crimson red as desired.

Congratulations! You've built the most elegant "single-pilot" starship in SW and SF universe!

User Notes
=============================================

This mod replaces the following vanilla assets:

1. Interior floor mounted landing bay ladder now invisible (on all ships)
  • pro: clean, visually unobtrusive (collision remains)
  • con: nothing to hold on to when exiting the ship ;)
2. Interior docker ceiling hatch ladder now invisible (on all ships)
  • pro: clean, visually unobtrusive (collision remains)
  • con: nothing to hold on to when exiting the ship and could be hard to find the docking hatch
3. ship weapon sounds (I recorded the sound FXs directly from the movie)
  • N-1 Laser cannon sounds replace C-class Light Scythe Laser sounds (wem id #s are 167548171, 564626561, 136061403, 1695908)
  • N-1 Proton torpedo sounds replace C-class Ballistics Missile sounds (wem id #s are 78539885, 461687858, 497131821, 646111761)

Notes for Modders
=============================================
This is my fourth starship build after X-wing, Millenium Falcon and Nubian Royal Starship. As you can see, the ship's size is getting smaller and smaller. It was extremely challenging to make a single-pilot starfighter this time around because the game was never designed to allow this kind of build. (But what is a mod for? ;-) )

1.  Cockpit
The biggest conundrum was making the cockpit functional. With the hull size of the ship extremely small, the walkability within the cockpit is sacrificed. There is simply no room, not even to get up straight in the cockpit. you CAN get up but the collision of pilot seat itself and bubble canopy will make you wobble and behave weirdly. I attempted to remove the collision of pilot seat, but I got CTD. So, expect the collision within the cockpit can be problematic.

2. Hab
There is simply no room in the hull to accommodate the Starfield's smallest hab which is 1x1 hab.
This means you have to have a way to bypass the problem of accessing the bay and the docker because those modules require at least 1 hab to evade error. Plus, vanilla bays have interior as well as exterior. A cockpit must be attached to a hab. This is an unalterable rule for nominal ship construction.

3. Module size
Every ship module had to be made "Nano." Even if you somehow packed all modules inside the tiny hull, you have to deal with the issue of ironing out the discrepancy between interior and exterior design and functionality as the game switches between those two all the time. For instance, once you board a ship, all external collisions disappear and the interior items and collision will appear, clipping out of the tiny hull very ugly all over. So every module must be minuscule.

I pulled my hair out and figured out how to make it all work without using a single external mod or exploitation or glitches. I painstakingly and discreetly removed all unnecessary interior items and thereby turning almost everything invisible including ship plugs. In a nutshell or a spaceframe, they are all there, but not there. This is an audacious attempt to produce a new type of ship in Starfield.

I wouldn't say N-1 is perfect now. It still has many flaws. But I did what I could best.

Now we can hopefully have Jedi starfighter and other single-pilot starfighters made in Starfield. Time will tell, but the possibility is now wide open with assurance.

How I did this:
1. Create a model or download a copyright free quality 3D model from Internet
2. Import it in Blender and separate the model into various parts (use bisect or separate by selection in edit mode)
3. Export each part using Blender plugin by Sesamepaste Read the article.
4. Open models in Nifskope and modify translation, rotation, and scale if necessary. Give an appropriate material to each geometry. Create proper collision meshes.
5. Use xEdit by ElminsterAU to register nif files and adjust them to be properly shown in ship builder in game. Read the article.
6. Assemble and enjoy the unique and slick form and function of your favorite ship!

It's challenging but at the same time rewarding and satisfying to reinvent the look and feel of our favorite ships in Starfield.

Should you have any trouble or questions, I am usually available to help you.

=============================================
This is an extremely experimental mod. Make a backup copy of your save file in someplace safe. Weird things can happen including: Collision is BAD, your character can fall in a collision trap and cannot escape. Then use tcl console command or load a previous save. I did all in my power to prevent this, but it can happen. My save file is intact so far and I have no problem using this mod, but as you know, your computer is different and ANYTHING can happen in Starfield. ;-)
