Suikoden 2 Recruitment Patch
A mod that allows you to recruit characters much earlier in the game.
This mod allows you to recruit Tessai, Gantetsu, Genshu, and Long Chan Chan much earlier. As a result, characters like Bob can also be recruited sooner.
Acknowledgements
This mod is based on the binary patch values shared with me by psychedelist back in 2020 on Suikosource from his rebalanced hard mod. With the assistance of asilverthorn from Moogles and Mods, I was able to identify and locate the values in the JSON files within the Monobehaviour of the game in Unity. Without their help, this mod would not have been possible.
Requirements
This mod requires the Unity CRC Check Bypass Mod.
Recruitment Order Changes
Tessai: Previously a late recruit, this mod provides a significant quality-of-life improvement by making him available much earlier. You can recruit Tessai as soon as you return from the Two River mission and your castle upgrades to Level 2.
- Viktor will initially be locked out upon entering the castle. Speak to Shu first, which will trigger a rest event.
- After waking up on the third floor, you can briefly have Viktor in your party.
- Add Viktor to your party and head to Kuskus Town—Tessai will be there.
- Even if you opt to not do above, Tessai will be permanently available for recruitment in Kuskus.
TL;DR: After the Two River mission, return to HQ, speak to Shu, reach Castle Level 2.
Gantetsu: Previously a late recruit, this mod allows you to recruit him much earlier—during your mission to obtain the Celestial Sword in South Window.
Genshu: Can now be recruited as soon as you have access to a Level 14 weapon or when Tir McDohl is recruited. While I couldn't locate the weapon data in the JSON files, I have removed Genshu's castle level restriction, reducing it to Level 2.
- If you want to recruit him immediately, use the Suikoden fix to upgrade a character’s weapon to Level 14.
Long Chan Chan (LC Chan): Now recruitable as early as your first visit to Matilda.
- He will no longer avoid Wakaba since that restriction has been removed.
Additional Effects of the Mod
- Hammers: Iron and Copper/Bronze Hammers now have actual value in-game, as Tessai can use them early. Previously, Tessai skipped these hammers and jumped straight to Silver and Gold.
- Bob: Bob can now be recruited much earlier, even without Tomo, provided you have Feather, Sigfried, the five squirrels, and all other possible recruits before him.
Installation
1. Install the UnityPlayer CRC Bypass Mod.
2. Extract the `/Suikoden I and II HD Remaster_Data/` folder from the mod directory.
3. Place it in the game root and overwrite when prompted.

- Enable early recruitment for Hoi.
