Halloween Screen Archery Competition

  • Comment
Halloween is creeping up on us, unless, like me, you dedicate the entire month of October to all things spooky. And what better way to celebrate than by taking part in our (the Content Team’s) very first competition?

You’re all invited to join our Halloween Screen Archery competition. Whether you’re a seasoned screen archer or just starting out, and no matter which game you’re playing, we want to see your best in-game photos. There are three categories to choose from – Classic Halloween, Horror, and Film – with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for each.

You can only enter one screenshot per category, so make sure to choose wisely. And yes, there are some prizes up for grabs.

All the spine-chilling details are listed below, so get those creative juices flowing and, most importantly, have fun!

Supported Games

The competition will be open to all games and gaming communities on our site.

Categories

Classic Halloween | Horror | Film

Category Guidelines

Classic Halloween

This category embraces the traditional elements of Halloween. Think spooky decorations, costumes, and classic creatures of the night. Screenshots in this category should evoke the fun, festive, and eerie spirit of Halloween, drawing inspiration from its iconic symbols.

Examples might include:
  • Scenes featuring pumpkins, witches, skeletons, or haunted houses.
  • Characters dressed in costumes or transformed into supernatural beings, such as vampires or werewolves
  • Environments with a spooky yet festive atmosphere—moonlit graveyards, eerie forests, or candlelit corridors.
  • Fun, whimsical nods to Halloween traditions like trick-or-treating or spooky parties.

The emphasis here is on capturing the essence of Halloween in a playful or eerie way, celebrating its well-known themes and imagery.

Horror

This category is for screenshots that evoke a sense of fear, suspense, or the macabre. The focus is on creating a scene that is genuinely unsettling, spine-chilling, or eerie, rather than referencing specific horror films (which belong in the Film category). Screenshots might feature dark and atmospheric environments, terrifying creatures, or moments of impending danger that give the viewer a sense of dread or unease.

Examples might include:
  • Creepy abandoned locations or haunted areas.
  • Terrifying creatures, monsters, or ghostly apparitions.
  • Use of lighting and shadows to build tension and suspense.
  • Anything that captures a truly unsettling or frightening atmosphere.

While mild gore is allowed, such as blood splatters, the goal is to focus on the feeling of horror rather than explicit violence or shock value.

Film

This category is dedicated to screenshots that pay homage to horror, slasher, or paranormal films. The goal is to capture scenes reminiscent of the suspense, fear, and intensity that define these genres. Whether you're recreating iconic moments from famous films or crafting your own chilling cinematic experience, this category is all about creating a film-like atmosphere that evokes terror or the supernatural.

Examples might include:
  • Scenes that mimic iconic moments from classic horror, slasher, the paranormal or occult films.
  • Cinematic shots with a sense of tension, dread, or violent confrontation.
  • Use of lighting and framing to enhance a sense of danger or the unknown.
  • Paranormal elements like ghosts, spirits, or supernatural phenomena.
  • Slasher-inspired scenes featuring eerie environments, dark alleyways, or the ominous presence of a killer.

Participants should focus on creating screenshots that feel like they belong in a horror, slasher, or paranormal film, using dramatic effects and composition to heighten the tension. While mild gore is permitted to align with the genre, participants should avoid overly graphic content.

Submission Guidelines

  • One entry is allowed per category, per account. This means you can submit up to three entries in total—one for each category. Subsequent entries after your first will be invalid.
  • Complete the Google Form linked below and follow the instructions on there for your submission(s).
  • Post-processing and the use of reshades are allowed.
  • No use of AI-generated content.
  • The original screenshot must have been taken in-game.
  • All entries must be SFW. We will allow mild gore due to the themes, but entries must otherwise adhere to our ToS.
  • Submission deadline: 29th October, with the winners announced on 31st October.

Judging

The Content Team will judge the entries. We’re not looking for the most technical screen archery; this is meant to be a fun competition that everyone can participate in. Winners will be chosen based on creativity, what stands out, and overall enjoyment.

We encourage screen archers of all levels to join in, so don’t hesitate—give it a go!

      Hi Sabah,
Sorry for the confusion. The text on the form was written to say you would get an email as the form originally required you to enter an email address. We removed that requirement just before the event started but forgot to update the text. I've changed it now.

I can confirm we have an entry from you for the Horror category :)

Hey PinkyDude! After the winners are announced next week on the 31st 🎃 I'll publish the links to each category submission in this forum thread here. I'll link it either in the announcement post itself or as a pinned comment, so everyone can take a look ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ ♡

Does the URL need to be direct from the image or is it the nexus media post link?

Hi, Pickysaurus. I note that you have a film category, and I was actually been thinking of making a SFW Halloween themed film already (I've already been working on it the last couple of days though have quite a way to go).

The rules say no AI, but I've been using AI (Suno) for the music. I write a poem myself, set it to music with Suno and then take my raw in-game footage (such as from Skyrim SE) and edit it into a film. Generally I post these films in your Supporter section, but I want the next one to be in your general audience section.

      So I have two questions:

      1. Is it okay for the music to be AI generated, as long as I write the lyrics myself,  and

      2. I assume the film link must be YouTube? Or can it be Flickr with direct link to the film and not to my general account?

      Thanks :)

Hey Karna5! For this competition, we're only accepting image submission entries.
The 'Film' category is for people to submit an image that pays homage to horror, slasher, or paranormal films, not to submit a film themselves. Hope that helps clear up any confusion, but love the sound of your Halloween-themed film 🎃
