This mod makes drastic changes to various systems and is a WIP. Upon completion of this mod it will act more as a survival horror should. The overall game will be darker, harder and more chaotic.

To Be continued
Version 0.1
Initial Release for Pre-Alpha Demo
Version .6911
Crosshair changes - now just a small circle, the larger circle is gone.
Scuttler changes in various levels
Attempt to fix level6 - I am not sure what is wrong here with NPC's not spawning. I simply have no idea as everything they need to work should be in place.
Other minor changes.
Version .693
A few fixes in the early levels and balance changes.
Version .611
Text fix in config for NPC.
Version .68
Pulled level6 from earlier version, reupdated to try to fix NPC's not spawning. Untested. May need new run to work, in theory you should only need to start from level 5b save and go into 6. (it must freshly load the level I believe.)
Minor fixes to spawning entities and pathfinding for them in levels 4a &5b.
Version .67
Level 8B added with carryover. I have not ran the level from playing yet.
Unable to reproduce level 6 issue with players reporting no npcs in cells. They show up when I run the level so in theory they should show up in your games. I am running a game to look into this more myself.
Fixes for level 6 Scuttler HP health.
Balance changes
Version .65
Fix 7a crash for Troopers pathfinding - I think this is fixed.
Switch up NPC in cell in level6.
Also fix some NPC errors with classes.
Version .64
NPC fix for Parnevik -> Hobson now.
Ammo touch ups
Slightly lighting increase
Scuttler balance
Bug fixes.
Version .63
NPC Courage adjustments - Fear of areas and things should be a bit more there and standard based on classes of the NPC.
A tad adjustment in ammo on a few levels
Some ambient lighting adjustments - I increased this by .02.
Infection rates decreased by 20%
Carry over fixes for NPC's
Level 6 Should carry over NPCS - NOTE: THEY WILL HAVE INVENTORY FROM level 5b. I at this time cannot clear their inventory. I will attempt this but no promises, it may be outside my control.
For best experience I suggest removing any inventory before you leave level 5b from the squad.
Version .62
Remade level 8a and level7a to fix rendering & state errors, this should help prevent crashing
Trooper HP, accuracy and spawning changed/editted
NPC Carry over complete
Ligthing edits
Balance Changes
Version .61
Level 8A is added and 7B as well, all in better spot, not fully done.
Bug Fixes
gameplay changes
The end a pathing issue for an AI may bug and cause a crash. I am aware of this and have inputted a fix I have not tried yet, it should in theory be in this version. (I simply removed the pathing.)
Level 6 has been pulled from an earlier non-bugged version and retouched up. I ran through it almost to the end and it seemed ok. I must run it more but this is definitely more stable.
I will test more of course.
Enjoy, Merry Christmas!
Hello,
I am known as Chariots and I love this franchise! I have been an advent fan of the game even since the OG. With the release of the Remaster I like some others found it to easy and not completely filling a niche I desired to see it fill. So I have set out to help it achieve that status.
This mod will aim to achieve several things I may forget to list some here and I will not list the change specifically as that would ruin the fun!
Currently THIS IS A DEMO and only goes to level 6. After this level it will revert to the core game. This is a WIP!
Some of the things achieved or that will aim to be achieved:
Harder Difficulty - Achieved through more dangerous Things. This entails increased scuttler and THING HP, Walkers being scarier to the team, targeting of the team, less ammo/guns. Lighting Changes: Various changes to lighting to either fit a new style in a level but mostly darker overall. New enemies: This includes new walkers and scuttlers! Increased Infection rate of the team Carry over of NPC's to new levels + retain NPC loadout/status -> If they are dead obviously they do not carry over. One or two or a few new NPC's....
Installation
To install this there are a few steps that are required. You must basically tell the game to use the mod file and point to it in a file. The easiest way to do this is to extract the file and place it next to the .exe and edit Thingconfig.csg real quick to tell it this.
Download file & extract. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Thing Remastered Place downloaded & extracted Folder in the specified location after unzipping it.(TheThingContinuity) Go to C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\Nightdive Studios\The Thing Open thingconfig.cfg in notepad/notepad++. (I open mine in Visual Studio) At the end of the file add: "ResourceDir" = "TheThingContinuity" - DO THIS WITH ALL QUOTES AS SHOWN. Save all changes.

Please note any bugs here or in the chat in the NightDive discord, do not pm me directly for them I will not respond as it may get to hectic.
Changes may occur to levels as I progress. This is not perfect yet and will absolutely see further changes!
Special Note:
I want to provide a special thank you to a few people for all their help and inspiration in this endeavor as I move forward and to those who have continued to provide feedback and aid.
