About this mod

Remastered version of the "Survivor Is Born" mod compatible with the new and improved mod tools created by arc_ / matthewmhinson.

As per the previous mod, the mod swaps Lara Croft's face from Rise and Shadow of the Tomb Raider while keeping everything else lore-friendly. However, it now includes Definitive Edition assets and missing DLC.

Tomb Raider - Survivor Is Born Redux brings Lara Croft's head from Rise and Shadow of the Tomb Raider for lore-consistency, while keeping rest of the usable outfits the same.

Redux version is fully compatible with the new unofficial mod tools released in 2025 and includes the remaining missing DLC outfits that were absent in the original mod and also doesn't require 3rd party software to fix some of the textures. All outfits have been replaced with Definitive Edition assets.

Head textures use AI improved assets from my mods for the other games that I created with chaiNNer and this ESGRAN model couple years back and also further edited in Substance Painter for be more suitable for this game, though as a result of using the bad, outdated DXT-compression, everything becomes muddy (This can be circumvented with SpecialK injected uncompressed textures.)

In addition, eyes now follow the ROTR head model placement and I no longer have to use bad workarounds to make them compatible with the game's animations (though I wish the animations could be modified, because a lot could use some fine tuning).

Unfortunately, there are a few seams with the chest and neck region and hands, but I'm not going to bother try to fixing them with the current textures. I realized that even the official Definitive Edition models have seams. I would much prefer to rebuild most of the outdated models with custom assets, but that's really out of the scope of this current project.

A lot of Definitive Edition textures remained unchanged from the original port of the game, so I haven't bothered to port those. Some textures that are unique in DE unfortunately are used globally for multiple objects, so I have abstained from changing those.

Original low-poly (and the polyline hair) remains unchanged. I'm not sure if multiple mods pertaining to the same outfits will conflict with each other regardless if they edit the same objects or materials, but I wanted to leave this note here  in case they do not conflict.

Installation:
Standard installation method for all the mod tool's mods. Open TrRebootTools.ModManager.exe and place the folder into the software and it will automatically backup the necessary og game file and import the mod to the game.

Bugs:
- Eyes are overly shiny. The game uses a general specular/roughness white texture for the entire eyeball and there's no way to make a texture, from what I can see, that prevents the iris from being so bright. I noticed there's a specular texture in cine_lara_loader.drm and I did change it, but it doesn't look like it actually did anything unfortunately.
- Seams. As I explained before, there are seams in the neck-chest and arm-hand transition regions. I used definitive edition textures for those areas, but it looks like they look like that even with them. Best solution would be to rebuild the head, chest and arm 3D models, but if I was to do that, I'd rather upgrade the outfits as well. I can't use ROTR or SOTR arm models, because the TR2013 tanktop-arm-head models are basically a one big blob, where only textures do much of the depth perception.

Let me know if anything needs fixing or adjusting, though there's probably only so much I can do.
