i also got this problem when i patched my skyrim <site not allowed> the when i tried horse combat but when i drawed my weapon my character stood up like freezing holding a sword...there is no animation when i attack....i found out that animation replacers can affect the game so i removed weapon drawing animation mod and idle animation...i also removes the animated prostitution mod that is .esm file after that it fixed the game no more standing bug...i hope it helped you......

1-still no mounted first-person view like old skool TES
2-LANCE! LANCE!
(Tho I do have the skyrim unplugged tool set to disable)
Hopefully they've fixed all the bugs folk were reporting with the beta, but I won't hold my breath.

Did you have the beta version? I.E. is this maybe just an update to the beta release? I haven't been able to find any confirmation that 1.6 is live for PC, which would be kinda odd if it indeed has been pushed out. Don't mean to be a snot, but there's been a number of posts over the past while announcing that 1.6 has gone live that turned out to be just updates to the beta version.
I'm very curious since I have a mod that disables Steam auto-updating (or, more accurately, prevents Steam from resetting after you've chosen the no auto update option), but I have to shut the mod off whenever I verify game cache. So the day 1.6 goes live for PC is the day I stop verifying game cache 'til I'm sure I want Steam to download the patch into my game.
EDIT: ok, posts are starting to trickle in all around that 1.6 is in fact live. Sorry for doubting you garren69.
I think I'm going to send the creator of the Skyrim Unplugged mod a big box of cookies, being secure in the knowledge that after work today I'll be loading up 1.5.26. ">
I had to take of the Levellers Tower and the Dovhakiin Hideout, the former coz of CTDs when trying to get into Markarth and the latter coz of missing meshes and textures. A total nightmare, as I don't understand why these kind of mods can be interfering with game play at all. Its not as if they are changing anything major so its very silly to be honest. Maybe the powers that be will come up with an answer before TESVI "> ">
@xlcr I tried to coc to those areas as I entered the excavation site using the same method to complete a quest and I'm now stuck there lol. Every time I try to coc out to either another area of Markarth or somewhere totally different eg Whiterun or Riverwood I either get frozen in time or CTD.
I have to smile at it but it is totally frustrating. I do hope that 1.6 comes up with some more fixes and doesn't add to the confusion. ">
Was wondering if you've tried alternate exits/entrances instead of the main entry door. I'm only guessing; but, i think there are these:
Markarth Wizards' Balcony - small outdoor area in Markarth's city map space, connects to Calcelmo's Laboratory/Tower.
(you might be able to use TCL to access it or leave).
Hall of the Dead - has a door to the Keep somewhere.
You can read more about these here (i don't remember them too clearly): http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Understone_Keep
I do not know if using these alternates will really be any kind of magical solution to the crashes, might be worth trying.
This is the first game I've played a game with horse-riding and I can't keep away. I just love it too much. Especially with the Mounted Followers mod that spawns horses for companions. But I hear ya, so with animals/trolls I often just gallop past them (they're just an annoyance after awhile anyways) and with bandits/assassins I usually ride a fair ways ahead to give some space before I dismount. Either way though, I don't bother with horses 'til I'm at a relatively high level and can take a fair bit of punishment.
That said, I like the idea of mounted combat but I'll be sitting on the sidelines for awhile to see how the release version of 1.6 shakes out (bugs, it's effect on various mods, etc.) before I let Steam update my game.

I don't even know how xbox/ps3 players get by without access to the setstage console command to get past quest bugs.
I haven't played the bioware games you mention, but I liked FONV (and the DLCs) in part because it actually made an effort to develop a lot of the characters and tell a story with some depth. I was rather disappointed that Bethesda didn't seem to follow that lead (characters especially). I don't even really think of Skyrim as an rpg - just a very pretty adventure game. (And I run a TON of hi-rez texture mods so it's even pretty up close. The vanilla textures are more or less pixel-soup at anything but a distance.)
