About this mod

Updated for Wartales Hard mode and for Adaptive Exploration that makes the game harder with some game balances.

These changes were done for how I like to play the game, and thought I would share them.

WarTales HardMode (some changes and text taken from Wartales Rebalance mod):


Wartales Build v1.0.36897  (read below on how to keep the version you are currently using).

Battle Difficulty and Leveling:
 - The overall difficulty of fights is increased by at least 40% - It's very challenging, only play Ironman if you're very familiar with the game
 - Requires a lot more XP to level, essentially it will require 100 XP more for each level than the previous level (i.e 200, 300, 400, 500, etc. Therefore, Level 1: 200 XP, Level 2: 500 XP, Level 3: 900 XP, etc.). Also, the amount of XP per kill has been decreased. 
 - Slow leveling is to counter leveling too fast on Adaptive Exploration. It still needs to be tested at higher levels, if it is too slow (e.g. at Level 13 it takes 10,000 XP, while in the base game it only needs 3,840 XP). To give an example, I have completed all of Tiltren and I am only level 4 or 5 with 6 party members.

Trait Balance:
 - Some trait balances
- Skullbreaker provides a 20% bonus (from 50%), and 50% (from 100%) at level 2 [was too strong of an ability]
- Destabilization decreases guard by 50% not 100% [Makes Tanks Tanks Again, MTTA!]
- PoisonFlask takes 2 AP instead of 1 [too strong for 1 AP, especially if you hit a group with high hit points]
- Poison and burning DoT (damage over time) decreased [make poison and burning more manageable]

Attribute Balance:
 - You can no longer put attribute points into mobility [it was too strong and bypassed the interesting dynamics between classes and armors]
 - Constitution grants 4/6 HP per point for humans/animals (from 2/4) [makes fights last longer/strategic]
 - Percent chance for a critical hit no longer scales with power (i.e. attack stat); however, each willpower point = 1% critical chance
 - Requires 20 willpower (from 15) to avoid death the first time in combat 
 - Career Plan, Human Resources and Bounties Stream cost 0 knowledge points to acquire and do nothing [makes leveling not so automatic]

Item/Equipment Balance:
 - Skill Mastery and Extra ability manuals (first aid, wrath, run, aim, taunt) cost a LOT more (makes them more rare and slows down the power spike)
 - Decreased percentage of some oils
 - Repaired armor decreased from 10 to 5

Gold Acquisition:
 - The reward for selling prisoners is lowered - Makes acquiring gold more difficult
 - Sell Factor for almost all item types lowered - Makes acquiring gold more difficult 
 - Repairing your armor at the blacksmith, healing injuries at the apothecary, and using the Inn costs much less (have a reason to return to town)

Happiness Balance:
 - Not feeding or paying your soldiers is no longer OK to do as long as they are around the campfire as it makes them a lot unhappier

Other:
 - Companions near a prisoner are much more capable at preventing escape - Quality of life (QoL)
 - Other slight balances throughout the game to provide QoL, make it slightly harder, or slighly more reasonable
 - Not recommended playing on Extreme mode. Enemies are much tougher and party members will be lost by ghost packs.


To install simply place the 2 files in the zip (res.pak, texts_en.xml) into your Wartales directory (normally X:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Wartales)

How to stop steam from auto-updating:
Sadly, Steam doesn't officially support any way to keep updates off. It just tries to force updates whether people want them or not.

There are things you can try on your own, though (this is what I do):
* Set the game to update only when launched, and then play the game in Steam's Offline Mode (if you EVER turn steam online it might try to update, be VERY careful as I will not update this mod as frequent as Shiro creates new patches)
