Though I think, while you are in the middle of the story and just roam around the islands, CDPR should have a) made it either a bit more unreachable, or b) made it a bit more disappointing if your visit there early

i think they did one secret map area per pack. isle of mists, mirror world and fableverse.
also this needed to be on the map, cos otherwise nilfgardians and skelligers wont be able to help fight the hunt. But tbh, i think Undvik has a lot of content for a single island
Keeping it in a constant fog would at least add to the mystery of that place. Though, on the other hand it would have been a hint/spoiler to upcomming events.
Well, to be honest, once I saw that silouette on the horizon for the first tome, I knew immediately that it would be a hotspot for the story. And when I visited it, my stomach told me - elven ruins - magic place - nothing here - 100% granted that the story will unlock something here later on.
My personal red herring was, that I was literally convinced that I would need this place to FIND Ciri
