The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Emgyr var Emreis BIOGRAPHY:

Emgyr var Emreis Deitven Addan yn Carn aep Morvudd (the White Flame Dancing on the Mounds of Enemies) is the emperor of Nilfgaard and the father of Cirilla.

Emgyr is a pragmatic, cold and resolute person. Always very clear in his words. He holds the whole Nilfgaard in his fist. Tolerates, and even respects, the representatives of the older races. Appreciates order and stability. All his actions and decisions, including even those concerning his family and himself, are aimed at the development and prosperity of the empire. He wants to capture the whole north, as he considers them a threat to the stability of Nilfgaard. It is very popular among the people of the empire. He does not believe anyone, and believes that everyone in his entourage can betray him. A great strategist, a warrior. Thanks to his skills, he was able to personally decide the fate of the assassins who attempted to kill him.

He was born in 1221, in the family of Emperor Fergus var Emreis. When he was 13 years old, his father was overthrown by a usurper. Emgyr himself was cursed, turning into a terrible monster - a hedgehog-like man. This was done in order to force the former emperor to cooperate with the new government, but Fergus did not succumb to threats and was killed, and the prince himself was banished to the forest. At first he was poisoned by dogs, but the conspirators did not know that at night the human form returns to var Emreis. After some time, he took the name Joj from Erlenwald and left the empire, and thanks to the astrologer Xartius, he learned that it was better to seek salvation in Cintra.

One day, the exiled prince stumbled upon King Regner, the ruler of Cintra, who got into trouble during a failed hunt. On the advice of the astrologer, he used the right of surprise and, thus, obliged the monarch to give him his daughter Pavetta. He told his wife, Queen Calanthe, shortly before his death, 15 years after the hunting incident. Having found out who Dani was, the ruler firmly decided not to give her daughter to the monster and hired the witcher Geralt from Rivia to solve the problem. Joj arrives at the palace and asks for the hand of the princess, as a result of which a fight engulfs the hall. Pavetta has an outburst of magical power that almost destroyed the entire castle. The witcher and the druid Mouser managed to stop the flow of energy. After that, the queen agrees to such a marriage of her daughter and, without knowing it, removes the curse from Emgyr. As a reward, the prince offers the witcher anything, and the White Wolf uses the right of surprise, like Dani himself 15 years ago. It turned out that Pavetta was pregnant.

Months later, Cirilla is born - the heiress of Cintra and Nilfgaard. Soon after, the sorcerer Vilgefortz from Roggven comes to Emgyr and offers to return the Nilfgaardian throne by a coup. But, according to the magician, for this you need to fake the death of Prince Dani. According to the plan, the whole family, including Pavetta and Ciri, were to "perish" during the shipwreck. But at the last moment, the princess did not take her daughter with her, as she suspected her husband's insidious plan. As a result of the storm created by Vilgefortz, Pavetta died, and Emgyr himself was injured. Despite the fact that the emperor never loved his wife, he did not want her to die. Soon the usurper of Nilfgaard was overthrown and Emgyr was crowned. Immediately, he decides to reclaim Cirilla and take her as his wife for political reasons. The emperor learned that Ciri's child would have great power and be able to conquer the whole world, and therefore, the empire needed such a ruler. He starts the first Great War and invades Cintra. Cahir Maur Dyffin aep Keallah takes the heiress out of the destroyed city, but in the confusion the girl runs away from him. Emgyr blames the knight for the failure and severely punishes him. The war quickly ends with the defeat of the empire, which has not known losses for more than a hundred years, the Battle of Sodden.

Together with Vilgefortz, the emperor develops a plan for a sorcerers' revolt on the island of Thanedd, which will not only resume military operations against the north, but also return the ruler's daughter. But there were complications on the island: Cahir, who received the last chance, was wounded and missed Ciri again, and Vilgeforts finally revealed his cards to Emgir, showing that he had been playing his game all the time. All the imperial special services were ordered to find the sorcerer, the knight and the princess. A squad led by the half-elf Shirru brings a girl to the empire, who was married to Cirilla. Emgyr immediately discovers the substitution, but does not show it and accepts the prisoner, since the war with the north is beneficial to the empire. The search for the real Ciri continues. But, as it turned out, Stefan Skellen, who was sent to search for him, is a conspirator who wants to overthrow the emperor and make a coup in Nilfgaard. Skellen would have succeeded if not for Ciri's persistence, as well as the intervention of Geralt and Yennefer, the girl's adoptive parents. In Stigg's castle, the witcher and the enchantress kill Vilgefortz, and the princess defeats Leo Bonart. Skellen is caught by Nilfgaardian soldiers who arrived at the castle with Emgyr himself. At the meeting, only Geralt recognizes Dani in the emperor and immediately tells him about it. Since the fate of Geralt and Yennefer, as "interfering with the plans for the prosperity of the empire of the Black Sun" has been decided, var Emreis tells Geralt about his plans. After hearing about the plans for Ciri, the witcher calls the emperor a monster and asks not to delay the implementation of plans for him and Yen. By order of Emgyr, the witcher and the enchantress were given time to be together, and he himself leaves the castle with Cirilla. But suddenly, on the road, Emgyr realizes the enormity of the plan he almost went to, and lets his daughter go, without revealing to her who he is.

In parallel with these events, the decisive battle of the Second Great War at Brenna takes place, where the army of Nilfgaard loses to the combined forces of the north. This was due to the fault of the scouts, who could not detect the approaching waxes of Kaedwen. As a result, all forces were thrown at the Temerians, who were able to restrain the invaders until help arrived. But the war still ended successfully for the empire: under the banner of the Black Sun, all the lands south of Yarugga, including Cintra, passed over. With the latter, he was helped by his marriage to the fake Cirilla, for whom the emperor was imbued with feelings. As a result, an agreement was signed in the capital of the conquered country, which was called the Cintrian Peace.

In the game "The Witcher 3":

During the events of the first and second parts of the game, he was preparing a plan according to which the whole north would be plunged into chaos, after which the third Great War would begin. At the end of 1271, Nilfgaard's troops crossed the Yaruga and began to demolish everything in their path. The weakened north could not provide anything to the forces of the empire: Cidaris, Verdun, Brugge and Sodden always hoped for the support of Temeria, but King Foltest was killed by the witcher Leto from Guleta sent by the emperor, and the country plunged into numerous disputes about the receiver. Lyria could not hold off the invaders for a long time and fell, after which the weakened Aedirn fell. The southern part of Kaedwen and Temeria were the last to fall. During the war, the emperor moved to the captured palace in Vyzim. Thus, by the spring of 1272, the empire controlled all the land south of Pontar. The only ones who fought back in the south were the Temer partisans in Velen. The last serious enemy of the Black Sun was Redania, which occupied the remaining lands of Caedwen, and controlled everything north of Pontar, with the exception of Kovir and Powys. King Radovid, although he fell into madness, was well versed in tactics and strategy and had every chance to defeat the invader.

Despite all the external problems, Emgyr was also threatened by internal strife: the opposition and trading corporations were dissatisfied with the ruler's policy, but while Nilfgaard was winning, they did not dare to openly express their dissatisfaction. Perhaps the situation with the Empress, the false Princess Cirilla, added fuel to the fire. Most likely, they found out inside the empire that the real Ciri was the emperor's daughter, and this greatly angered key individuals. To clear his name, Emgyr had to tell that the Empress is not the real heir of Cintra, but just an ordinary commoner. This explains why in the game none of the characters associated with political plots and mentions the Empress and is not surprised by the search for the real Cirilla. But it is impossible to say for sure, since the fate of the false CIRI is completely ignored in the game.

In the game, for the first time Emgyr appears before the player in the final of the prologue. The Emperor receives Geralt an audience, where he tells him that his daughter has returned. He offers a generous reward to the witcher if he brings her to him. He spends almost all his time in the royal palace, often convenes a military council. Most often he discusses military tactics with General Morvran Voorhis. Above all for him, as before, the good and prosperity of the empire, therefore, he is eager to put Cirilla on the throne. But, despite the fact that, first of all, she is the future of Nilfgaard for him, Emgyr feels paternal feelings for his daughter, even if he hides it. Depending on the player's actions, Emgyr can return to the heart of the empire with a victory, with Cirilla, or with defeat, after which, as a result of the uprising, var Emreis will be killed by his own subjects.
