About this mod
A light improvement of the starting gear, to make it more consistent and more useful in the initial parts of the game.

- A light improvement of the starting gear, nothing too unbalancing or game-changing.
The main goal is not to make it on par with later gear both found in the game or crafted, but to give it a little more usefulness in the initial parts of the game.
What this mod does:
- make starting gear of green "Witcher Gear" quality instead of being common
- slightly improves stats, now they are roughly half of the most basic crafted Witcher Schools gear
- give chest armor and both swords 1 socket, so they can be further enhanced with Glyphs or Runes
- rename them to consistently be "Kaer Morhen ***' instead of the generic names they have in vanilla, so they properly look like a set
starting from v1.1.0, both starting swords use a different (still vanilla) model, thus they look more interesting.- starting from v1.2.0, swords are reverted to their vanilla look, to ensure compatibility with other graphic mods.
What this mod does NOT do:
- add set bonus for using 3 or 6 pieces like School gear sets
- edit any graphic file, it is strictly a data mod
- make any edit to Viper set or anything else. Starting gear only!
In a way, this can be considered a "Lite" version of Improved Kaer Morhen Starting Gear by Arkwulf, but, unlike that mod, it does not touch anything except starting gear and keeps it as "Medium Armor" instead of making it "Light Armor", like Arkwulf mod.
My more limited edits make my mod work nicely with other overhauls like Armor Rework Mod and The Essential Weapon Rework Mod, which I recommend using together with mine.
Game version
This mod was created for and tested with the latest released version: Next-Gen 4.04 Redkit Update 2
I don't use or support Old-Gen v1.32. It may or may not work, but it was created on top of Nex-Gen data and codebase, unpredictable issues may arise even if apparently it installs and runs correctly.
Options
Two versions are provided:
- MAIN: only edits gear stats. Fewer edits mean more compatibility and fewer merge issues. Because of improved stats, item levels may be too high to be used at the start of the game. Intended to be used with mods that take item leveling out of the game (i.e. Item Levels Normalized and other related LEGO mods).
- ALT: besides all improvements of the MAIN version, it also makes some more very light edits to XML and script files to ensure that item levels are forced to be exactly 1, thus being usable on a more vanilla setup. Intended to be used if you don't use de-leveling mods. Because more code is involved, on some very rare occasions it may generate more merge conflicts (it is probably very unlikely, anyway).
Installation
The recommended way to install this is with "The Witcher 3 Mod Manager"
You can alternatively also manually place it inside your "mods" folder inside the main game directory
Compatibility
This should be compatible with everything that don't directly edit stats of the starting gear, quite obviously.
If you use "Armor Rework Mod" there will be some merge conflicts, just select this mod entries over that one and you should be fine.

Please don't send me the final bundled strings. I also don't officially support or endorse third-party translations on separate mod-pages.
