Rather basic screenshots of only the thin streak version due to technical issues far too boring for this description. Direct comparisons between the default and 4k textures in-game would need to be hosted elsewhere because nexus has image size limits. As of now I do not really have the means to make a proper comparison yet if anyone wants to do so go ahead.
Why is the file structure different? What happened to the optional files?
TLDR: If you want the medallion to look darker only download 1 of the main files and if you want it to have vanilla colors download the
override on top of that. Everything should work out of the box unless you give any of the main files higher priority than the override for whatever reason.
The specular changes of the original mod are just engine side RGB edits, literally 3 lines of text. The textures are identical across the main and optional files of the original mod so instead of having to manage and 'package' 8 files like in the original I made 4 and 1 override with no RGB changes aka Vanilla Specular of the original mod.
By default the override file has higher priority and is meant to work with any of the other main files. The only thing that will change if the override has lower priority than any of the main files is the color of the medallion because aside from the RGB changes that specific file is also identical across all versions. That means the no eyes version can use eye textures if another mod happens to utilize the same file path as other versions of the mod. That knowledge is not really useful I know.
Are you the author of the original mod?
Nope which is why I did not initially upscale all of the versions or make a proper mod page, the mod author was still around and his mod page has no set permissions (as in zero, literally none as of writing this) not to mention the mod author himself was last online on nexus in march and never made any comments about my edit which prompted me to take the initiative and make use of his work. If he requests me to take down this page I will do so. An unexpected amount of people asked me to repost the original thin streak edit in the original mods comment section multiple times (because I did not use a static file host, separate subject) up until the point JMSN2 (thanks a lot) offered to host a proper mod page at which point the community surprised me once again because the mod gained over 1k unique downloads in barely a week. At that point I more or less ran out of excuses to delay the creation of the mod.
Yet is the upscale even needed - warranted?
Yeah. Aside from the fact the diffuse textures were 1024 x 1024 and normal maps 2048 x 2048 the rounded eyes texture was 1024 x 1024 which was surprising because the other eye textures were also 2048 x 2048. The author might have done something peculiar when importing the textures because I could not export the thin streak eye and normal map textures using the same method I used for the other ones. That was not a major issue because aside from the eye textures the mod reuses the exact same diffuses and normal maps.
Credits and thanks:
CAPA14 for making the original mod.
Lolzzl for upscaling it (literally me)
JMSN2 for hosting the temporary mod page before I released the full mod.
