Having a strange issue here, After setting the default squad size to 6 and the max size to 8 following the instructions in the mod, and now that i bought one more slot in the game i can't actually select seven soldiers. I can see the seventh and empty slot but when i select a soldier for it it takes off one soldier from the squad and puts the new one there.
TL; DR set squad size default to 6, bought a new slot so squad size should be 7, can see the slot but can't select more than 6 soldiers for the mission.
That is super weird, and I have not seen any scripting in the source files for the game that would do anything like that... Possible mod conflict? Another mod that changes the squad sizes? It's the only thing I can think of.
There are some missions that will impose a different squad size limit than the "regular missions" setting, but then it shouldn't show the extra boxes at all.
I'm having the same issue any resolution yet? Also I don't have any mods that do anything with the squad size aside from this one.
Currently installed Nexus Mods MaxSquadSizeFix (This Mod) m_iMaxSoldiersOnMission is set to 6 MaxDisplayedSlots is set to 8 and I have 1 squad upgrade purchased.

Hello and apologies for necroposting. Hopefully someone will still find this answer useful.
What you're describing is what happens after you edit m_iMaxSoldiersOnMission and MaxDisplayedSlots, but before installing this mod. So just make sure that it's extracted in the correct folder, either "XCOM 2\XComGame\Mods\" for vanilla or "XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\XComGame\Mods\" for WotC.
Slight note about Game data # and UI slot #. I set the defaultGame data to 6 and the DefaultUI to 8. This way I get 6 squad members from start of game. Then I do the 2 upgrades later for 8 total. And slot 9 is still there for escort missions. But yes it does work for WotC as well as base game. Endorsed
This appears to still work with WotC. Updated my .mod file to contain RequiresXPACK=true just to make sure. However, it does NOT display the Will bar on the soldier loadout screen. Needs to be updated, but it's core function still works
Quick PSA to those with this mod: The March 10th patch broke this mod. Well, sorta. Not really! When entering into a mission you may notice that you only have six slots available again. Don't panic; this is easy to fix!
Apparently, the recent patch made a change to the DefaultUI.ini file and reverted an edit we had originally made to get this mod working. To get it fixed, we just need to to Step 2 again. As a refresher, that's:
Second, increase the UI limit: Go to [Steam Installation Folder]\SteamApps\common\XCOM 2\XComGame\Config\ Open up DefaultUI.ini in Notepad (or text editor of your choice) Search for: MaxDisplayedSlots Set that equal to the number you set in step one plus 2 (default is 6)
Well i did the same now i got 7 slot soldier however lol i cannot see the 7th soldier on the deployment screen as in the second pictures of you. Is there anyway to shrink the screen so i can see all 7 soldier ? Also i crash out but have no idea what happened lol cause i install around 50 mods already :p
Quoting from the Steam Workshop page of hairlessorphan's Armor Utility Slots mod:
I pulled it down because I'm not maintaining it at the moment, and I don't want to leave up an outdated mod that might accidentally screw up people's patched / dlc'ed games. I'm gonna pull [Armor Utility Slots] down, too ([which] was actually showing as already removed, but I guess it wasn't).
If you need either of these, they're still on XCOM2 Nexus under the same names. But, super honestly: use with caution, I haven't kept up with the patched / dlc'ed SDK, you'll probably be better off grabbing maintained mods that do the same thing / include them.
I actually don't know which mods incorporate my fix, anymore. There are mods I gave permission to include it in, and then there were modpacks that included those, and at least one mod that included a mod that included mine, and I didn't bother to keep track of 'em. Sorry!

EDIT: Nevermind, turns out I'm just dumb. All I did to make it work to edit the .xcommod file as you stated. Thanks anyway for finding it
