This mod adds harder duels for the DM era campaign, replaces the starter deck with a weaker version and merges all the packs into a single pack, containing all 10.000+ cards.

Permissions and credits
The Master of the Cards mod is meant to be played as a masochist run. This is a run that was inspired by Cimoooooooo, who invented the concept of the masochist duels. The idea is simple. You start off with a terrible deck and open roughly one pack each victory to improve your deck. This mod functions similar.

You start off with a deck so bad it can't match the strength of the challenge. So you'll want to improve your deck as fast as possible. You can do this by beating the tutorial in the first campaign (the duel monsters era) and the first duel that follows after that. Once done, you will unlock the random pack. This random pack will contain all cards that are currently in the game. All other booster packs have been disabled and the price has been ramped up.

From this moment on, you'll run into a difficulty spike, as every subsequent duel has been changed, with the exception of 1 duel (I'll let you figure out which one). The reverse duels have also been altered from this point on. Each duel will either build upon the strategies the duelist was already using, or change the strategy entirely. In GX, it's mostly the latter.

The game also includes some additions to the banlist, to make the run more interesting. The rarities in the booster packs mostly match the rarities in the vanilla game. Some cards were a little too good for common cards (looking at you, Mekk Knights).

Version 3.0 is now available. This is the last major update that will happen to this mod. So what's new:
  • Every card with an effect that the AI uses in the dm and gx campaign has been banned. We are now one step closer to the masochist experience.
  • The starter deck has been slightly adjusted. I gave you a ritual monster. And some other new card as well.
  • Grinding for cards with anything other than the random pack has become significantly less possible.
  • Adjusted some decks that ruined the ai's own strategy (Looking at you, Bakura).

Version 2.0 is now available. So what's new:
  • The second storyline (GX) now has it's decks replaced with stronger decks.
  • There is a new banlist. Let's see if your deck survived.
  • Clogged the side decks of every DM and GX campaign deck with normal monsters to make good card rewards less common.
  • Changed the signature card rewards to mostly normal monsters.
  • Added most of the ocg artworks to the cards.
It is recommended to either start a new save file, or to keep going from a save that was using version 1.0 of this mod.
V1.0 is still available for download.
For using the newest version, only use the 2.1 files. If you have the original mod, you can safely replace those 2 files with the new ones.


Note that only the DM and GX era campaign duels have been changed. For the full masochist experience, it is recommended to complete these
campaigns in any order without touching any other duels. Though there is nothing stopping you from doing so. All in all, it was fun making this mod.
