Hi again, I hope you're OK, guys. It's a hectic real life down here, so I had to take a break from modding, but in the meantime I've practised some Blender modeling, and I'm excited to aply this knowledge to texturing. The new foliage you see in this update has actually been modeled in Blender. Thanks to it the textures are sharper than ever, and can be modified quite easily, if necessary. I've also for once worked out how to make decent billboards for trees, and the first attempts also found their way to the mod. Hopefully there's significantly less popping and sudden changes in shape and colour between distant and close trees. Only a few species have billboards for now, but they're quite prominent in the landscape. More will come soon (making them is a tedious chore, but the result is worth it).
So, this time I've: - modified Japanese maples to have more realistic colours - remade English yews from scratch - including the tree model to make them look more like the real thing - made daphnes (finally I had a chance to use photos of the plant I bought especially for this purpose) - made aspens in both golden and green versions - made billboards for all English oaks, all maples (although I'll be remaking these trees in Blender, very soon), all willow oaks (same as maples), grey poplars, japanese maples, and yews.
I hope you enjoy them!
As always, my computer is useless for images. Please, upload any good ones you've taken. And let me know if you have any suggestions for the mod.
This is just wonderfully. One of the most beautiful greeeeens... it's soooo beaaaaautiful... ooooh ...
Still a great mod to use in 2024! And I love, how it won't cause conflicts on it's own, with other mods, as it's not changing the "vanilla setup" of the trees. I can perfectly combine it with other such mods!
BTW, every time I find some spare time I'm adding new things to this mod - filling up gaps and updating existing files. So keep your eyes peeled because you never know when it drops :)
The pictures and such of this mod are amazing however no matter what I do they never show up for me. I was oddly not even asked about overwriting existing files, I was hoping to use this but idk why it refuses to work. I've tried it with nothing else installed mod wise and it still won't work. I have invalidation setup and it shows in other mods working without any issues. Is there any idea as to why it refuses to work? Or am I maybe looking at the wrong trees? I have a test save to make sure mods work so I exit the sewers and none of those trees right there are changed. I also went to the Garden distract and a few other places also nothing :(
Heh, maybe you are looking at wrong trees after all :P But could you have a look at your files in Oblivion/Data? If you have a Trees folder there, as well as Textures/trees (that includes 3 folders: billboards + branches + leaves) you should be able to see the retextured trees and bushes. Wrye Bash also does Archive Invalidation by default, but you say you've already tried WB... Other mods can change texture paths for .spt files, but again, you say you don't use them... (but what about Oblivion Trees Overhaul? Maybe you are using this mod?)
As a last resort - if the folders are in correct order - you could try a different/old method of archive invalidation (or actually redirection). Download and start OBMM. Click Utilities. Select Archive invalidation. You'll get a popup window. Click BSA redirection (it's the default choice). Click Update Now. Close the Archive invalidation popup (click the red X in the upper-left corner). Quit OBMM.
I did literally all of that nothing was working. I could see the files there. I eventually tried it in WryeBash nada. I used Oblivion Mod Manager...nada. I did it fully manually, I could see the files in my game folder. Other mods were working fine so the bsa invalidation wasn't the issue. I'm out of ideas and I just ended up giving up...looks great but idk why it refuses to work.
Well, this is super weird, close to impossible... Now you've actually made me even more curious. If your other texturing mods work as intended chances are that maybe something else is overwriting Arboretum (?) Also, please, keep in mind that I haven't covered all trees/bushes yet (getting there slowly as my almost non-existent spare time allows). So (super slim) chances are that indeed you are looking at trees that haven't been done yet. Could you maybe take a few screenshots and upload them to imgur (for example)?
I went to areas in your screenshots to make sure I wasn't imagining it. As far as my other texture mods none of them were for trees at the time and at the moment I cannot take a picture of my game. I changed computers and need to replace my ethernet card, I'm writing this reply from a tablet. My Oblivion isn't installed on this other PC and I do not have a hard disc copy that still works otherwise I would.
OK, would you be willing to do a small test? Please, manually extract from the 7zip a single texture: shrubazaleapinksu.dds (because this plant is quite prominent around the IC). What happens if you place it manually in Data/Textures/trees/leaves? Can you see it anywhere in the city?
(That would help me determine if the whole mod somehow doesn't get installed, or if something else is conflicting with it.)
Also, have you used any texture size-altering tools on these trees? Are you using the new ORL - the one with the tree shadow feature)?
Sorry for the extreme delay, network issues. To answer that question no I didn't find them anywhere, I did what you suggested by putting only that 1 texture in and I still do not see it. I did this even with a completely fresh, new install by itself. The few times I said I wasn't using other mods I wasn't kidding I wanted to use JUST this for my trees and such I didn't grab anything else to make it easier on myself with issues and just other mods I didn't like.
Some trees and shrubs might work, but there will be plenty of issues. L&G FG swaps many spt files around. There will be mismatched leaves and trees, and they'll grow in strange places. I'm sorry, but even though I like L&G, they are quite incompatible with each other.
Hi again, I've just noticed that the last minute change I made to aspens looks worse than before. The texture should have about 20% transparency applied so that it doesn't look so blocky from a short distance. (You could even try 70-75% opacity, if you'd like to do it yourselves. ) In going to correct it in the next package - that is coming sooner than next year, I promise. But would you like a quick fix in the meantime? Just the aspen?
OK, I'll upload it, and thanks for compliments :) I'm sure calthrop did a nice job - like with everything else. And the more ideas, the better. Choice is always good.
Seems I need to update my patch for your mod, though I'm taking a break from modding, I might do it this weekend but more likely it would be later, seems I don't have SpeedTree on my (somewhat)new PC.
I know, that ancient version of Speed Tree is virtually impossible to get anymore. And even if you do get it, you've got to be super careful with the changes you make. Anyway, check your PM.

"But would you like a quick fix in the meantime? Just the aspen?"
Yes please.
PS:
My compliments on this update.
During your absence fortunately @calthrop gave trees some modernized lovewith recent updates for his "Oblivion 2020 Retexture Project".
What I did was just overwrote that install with your update
and I haven't noticed real issues nor glaring visual issues yet.
