Hey guys, thanks for downloading my mods and supporting me. I likely will not be contributing any further updates from this point as work life has taken up so much of my time. I appreciate all the positive remarks I've gotten. And please, do not donate to me, I am doing well and have closed my Paypal. If you wish to show thanks, please take the time to visit one of these websites for a shelter in need.
Fantastic, came to the Nexus today just to find a mod that does this. Well done.
Anyone coming to this mod because, like myself, they hate that you are hunted for a crime that no-one knows you comitted may appreciate "Better Stealing" to compliment it which prevents lower-value (configurable threshold) items from being marked as stolen if you aren't caught taking them: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/75296
Also, try out this mod which ensures that guards won't just stand by and watch thugs beat the crap out of you - they'll attack thugs, assassins and more: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/55400
Just started out on a new game with Legendary Difficulty and Alternate Start. I did steal some stuff... but yeah, I was NOT SEEN. Next thing I know, I am attacked by Hired Thugs. With enemies unleveled, below lvl 10 and legendary difficulty, it is suicide to attack...and I really think sending Thugs for non-unique items no one even witness me stealing is over the top. Honestly, why even bother sneaking? Just take the stuff, run, dump it somewhere. Pay the fine or sleep in a cell for a few days, retrieve the stolen goods. Much easier and less dangerous than Hired Thugs send after you.
So, THANK YOU, FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART for this mod! I hope it works with my heavily modded game (okay 136 plugins..still, for my rig...heavily modded)
Thanks so much for making this! Getting hired thugs sent after me was such an issue when I was playing a low level thief character as they would kick my asses and it made no sense for them to go after me if I wasn't seen stealing because how the heck would they know who stole the item, assuming it was noticed missing at all? So thanks for making this, much more immersive and now I don't have to fear for my life playing a low level thief.
Any chance someone can bring this to Skyrim SE? I could really use this mod, I'm getting tired of stealing a potato when no one is looking and almost getting murdered each time for it even though there was no one nearby.
ok ... I am using a cave bear to level up my armor and restoration skills. I have the game difficulty set on Master so I take more damage. Then 3 hired thugs come along while I am low on health, and the game is set to master. After I dealt with them I read the not to see who hired them. It was the Housecarl from Riften. Somehow he found out about me taking a few eidar cheese wheels from the Yarl's room.
<( I was up there to read a skill book and get the Unusual Gem. The cheese was all I stole. )>
The room that is upstairs, and in a complete different cell of Mistveil Keep. So not only did the guy not see me. He hired Thugs to hunt me down for stealing some cheese. To top it off he wasn't in the same game cell.
I didn't know the game would send the thugs if you were never caught, or even seen stealing. They could have set it to where you had to steal items that would total a set amount of gold per game cell. A set list of items would work also.
So a BIG thank you for this simple mod. I can't believe nobody else has made a fix for this yet.
I was attacked by Hired Thugs a couple times last night (within 10 minutes of each other) and it made me curious. I'd stolen a bunch of stuff while in Riften, but was not caught any of the times. So, I was confused why someone was sending thugs after me. I looked up Hired Thugs, and found out they come after you for stealing, even if you're not seen in the act. That seems awfully stupid to me; very "forced" and arbitrary. If you're not seen or caught, then there's no way for anyone to know it was you. Anyway, I decided "yeah that has to go. I 'm sure someone has a mod for it", and sure enough lol.
It *would* be cool if certain NPCs become suspicious about you and maybe start following you around (like shop keepers do if you go into their private rooms, etc), maybe say something to that effect. They could make a remark like "Last time I saw you here, some of my belongings seemed to up and walk out as well. I'm making sure it's only you walking out this time". Or something to that effect. I could get behind something like that.
Anyway, I'm using only the one where they aren't hired if you aren't caught. If I'm caught and manage to escape, that's a different thing. I'd have been seen/identified, so it makes more sense.
Thanks for this, frankly "hired thugs" makes no sense even if you ARE caught. It's a senseless game mechanic and the radiant nature of the quest makes it so they spawn on top of you while waiting, fast travelling or sleeping, so you are essentially being STAIR JUMPED after a loading screen like some kind of ancient RPG where your loading screen finishes and you're dead. The fact nobody fixed this in 4 years is CRAZYPANTS
