Hello, sorry to bother you, I have created a "Shields on Back" mod specifically for xBox called "Just Shields (on Back), and I wanted to know if it would be any chance for me to be granted permissions to port this mod and make the necessary modifications for it to work with Just Shields (on Back). As per Bethesda net new TOS only public posts (like this message) are acceptable as permissions, and not PMs anymore.
If I'm not mistaken, installing all these mods will not automatically put the shields on your back.
- In Mod Organizer 2, right click on Simple Dual Sheath and navigate through Mods\Simple Dual Sheath\SKSE\Plugins. - Open the SimpleDualSheath.ini file. You will see something like this:
[Sword] Flags=Player|NPC
[Axe] Flags=Player|NPC
[ShieldOnBack] Flags=Player|NPC
[Mace] Flags=Player|NPC
[Dagger] Flags=Player|NPC
Add the lines below:
[ShieldOnBack] Flags=Player|NPC
For some reason It only worked for me when I added those lines as it follows, not letting them at the end
[Sword] Flags=Player|NPC
[Axe] Flags=Player|NPC
[ShieldOnBack] Flags=Player|NPC
[Mace] Flags=Player|NPC
[Dagger] Flags=Player|NPC
I had to take some time, watch tutorials in order to make it work.
if u take 2 seconds to look at that website you can see there is no clause that requires him to credit the original creators. morally speaking i understand where you're coming from but he has done nothing wrong legally.
It's still really shitty to go around and act like it's your own artwork without telling anyone where it came from. Most of this dev's mods are like that.
I guess at the very least the donation points are not open on this mod (or the earlier one), otherwise this would have been a huge (or even bigger) ethical (if not copyright) problem.
I'm not sure why people think the Greek style shields don't fit. The Empire straight up has a Greco-Roman style to it. The legion armor is literally just fantasy Roman armor. I get that Oblivion's Cyrodiil had a bit less Greco-Roman flair but ESO and Skyrim have already pushed that aesthetic a bit more. The symbols might be a bit more anachronistic but they don't seem too out of place, especially considering so many Nordic mods have names, images, and runes ripped straight from Norse mythology already. And chimera, serpents, sunbirds, octopuses/octopi, and owls are all canon creatures.
ESO's buildings are more based on Byzantine (Roman) than Greek. But your point is valid.
I would really like to see a proper historical shields mod though, not even NordWarUA's newest ones are close really. All the mods out there have them the wrong size; Viking shields were actually quite large, typically between 75 and 95cm with most being right around 85 (https://i.imgur.com/htbccgN.jpg), and the mods always have the rawhide edgings riveted on instead of using dense stitching (https://i.imgur.com/xU5NkZT.jpg). A lot also leave a wood texture exposed and painted over, which isn't accurate at all as they were always faced with rawhide on both sides and then painted. The painted patterns are always awful too - Viking shield patterns are actually really, really simple. This list is nearly complete: https://i.imgur.com/0EP0gRF.png.
As for Aspides, well they are a bit dated for a game that's clearly going for a Viking age look. By that period the Romans had just invented the Teardrop-shape Kite shield (https://i.imgur.com/sIS1qoq.jpg, https://i.imgur.com/VqSQMo4.jpg) and were using smaller dished or conical round shields (https://i.imgur.com/Ld9ueJb.jpg) about the same size as Macedonian-era ones (either 60 or 70cm depending on what troop type).
I did say Greco-Roman tbf lol I've noticed that about the shields but it doesn't bother me that many are riveted really. I do prefer the stitched look though. But overall, I don't think it's a great idea to gatekeep what sorts of historical designs do or don't fit. Bethesda clearly doesn't care since their designs can come from whatever period of history they feel like. Oblivion had an outfit ripped from the 19th-20th century even. And ESO is guilty of using just about anything that looks cool too. These are all canon outfits that don't really fit the look of Skyrim, but still existed earlier in Tamriel history according to the other games: (Nexus won't let me post links and apparently didnt save my last edit)
Sheogorath's outfit and the Plaid Shirt from Oblivion
I mean I get what you're saying, but part of my point is that video game makers don't understand how any of this stuff works, and also I've always thought Skyrim is just a great game to have a historical overhaul.
I wonder if @chucacu would be willing to do a historically accurate shields pack considering he's one of the best modelers for shields.
Ok, I love new stuff.. but most of these are Greek style (and artwork) shields. I'll try to make the textures more 'fantasy' or more 'nordic'-something.
Also, since they're looks so unique, you may had 'small quests' to get each one of them.
a better headcanon would be as a smith you are learning new ways to make shields like from lost / far away places. if its not in the leveled list and just smithed, its definitely lore friendly any character can just paint whatever or design intricate shields
Could we have a back meshes so that the shield could go the back when "sheathed"? I am using DSR and am a bit frustrated when these beautiful shields could not be displayed on my player's back. Thanks.
absolutely loved legendary alpha shields (1). these here on version 2 look also stunning and cool but... even i really like ancient greek stuff i think it looks too ancient greek and not too "high fantasy nord" if you know what i'm meaning. if there will be a version 3 please make those gorgeous shields but with a for skyrim more fitting approach - BUT ONLY IF YOU LIKE AND HAVE THE ENERGY AND TIME of course.
you make really beautiful high quality shields. thanks for sharing.
I don't think there's anything wrong with them being greek style shields. Imperial culture is clearly inspired by greco-roman culture and this seems quite fitting. most people seem to forget that nords aren't fully vikings and that imperials aren't fully romans, so some anachronism is totally normal. Great work on these!

Wow the shields in this look familiar. Couldn't figure out where you got the others though
