I have narrowed it down to this mod, confirmed working when it is disabled. when running this with mistlands update I can no longer fuel a fire using E. E just does nothing. only way I can fuel is to equip wood into a 1-8 slot and use the number keys to fuel. When I disable the mod I can add fuel to fire using E key again.
just thought I would bring attention to this. Cheers for the mod Randy. let me know if need any more info. Is anyone else having this issue?

I had this same problem.  So I did the easiest thing possible (/s): I downloaded the source and set about fixing the mod.  Surprisingly, just recompiling it with the current assemblies fixed this issue.

Will the fire etc. always use the "lowest" quality wood possible, or how would it be handeld if you had for example a stack of normal wood two stacks of ancient bark and a stack of corewood?

This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks. We need a similar mod for converting deer hide into leather scraps.

hello, do you think it's possible to make it work the other way around too?
due to the limited fine wood right now it would be awesome to make core wood / normal wood into fine wood.

I am not sure why, but with this mod installed, my spinning wheel is using Ancient Bark as fuel and spitting out coal.
Its a really cool mod, maybe its incompatible with something else I have installed. Will do some more testing.

Is it possible to get it without ancient bark being able to be made from regular wood?

This isn't something I expect a modder to do and is probably wishful thinking for the developer, but it would be cool if you could use different types of wood in the fires and kilns to get different results (i.e. different color and longer burning fires, longer burning or more powerful coal, repel different mobs).
