Yeah, I got this too. I go from a stable 60 fps (locked using RTSS), to 45-50 after a while. Restarting the game allows it to go back to a stable 60 fps, but the cycle repeats itself.
For information, overlays are known to interfere with mods (most commonly Nvidia App, RTSS, Ubisoft Connect...). I'd suggest trying without any overlay enabled (can also fully close background apps for testing purpose).
I'll try to reproduce this again on my end though.
Yeah, I tried turning off RTSS and just using the nvidia driver framerate limiter instead. Issue persists even then. For reference, I am running on an RTX 4080, 12700KF, 16 GB RAM with game installed on an SSD drive. I'm also using the AC Unity Physics Patch and the RTX 3080 and 4080 flickering issue fix nvidia inspector profile that's listed on this game's PCGaming Wiki page.
Looking at the game with Special K injected, it seems like the game becomes CPU bottlenecked over time using this mod, as that's what the render pipeline timing diagram in Special K shows. GPU looks fine, as it shows that my GPU can render at ~110 fps. Maybe it's a memory leak, idk?
Edit: I should add that I am using the "Physics Patch and Other Improvements" mod, which adds new files into the .forge game files that could potentially interfere with this mod. I haven't tested this mod on just the vanilla game yet so when I do I'll update this post with the results.
In short: 100% my fault, I mistakenly disabled one of the addon's features.
Long version: "pipeline cloning" is a function I initially had enabled. I likely removed it for testing purpose and forgot to restore it before I built previous version. Unluckily, RenoDX devkit, which I usually have loaded most of the time when modding, seems to force that pipeline cloning feature. This would be why I couldn't reproduce the issue on my end and why I took some time to figure this out.
Hi, Thanks for the work. Unity has never looked better. Just a had question regarding the in game brightness setting Should in game brightness be left to default at 5? brightness 5 looks kinda washed out. Dropping to 3 or 4 makes colours seem a bit richer/warmer. This behaviour happens regardless of using reno dx, so is it just a user preference thing?
Hi, Thanks for the feedback, I wasn't aware of this behaviour, pretty interesting.
FYI it seems whatever brightness setting does is applied with a lookup table (2nd LUT Strength slider in RenoDX). I would look at consoles to get a reference picture but it seems same brightness setting is available there too so... Ultimately user preference yes.
Edit: after some experimenting around, I ended up disabling Game's Brightness setting to avoid any confusion. Same result can be achieved with RenoDX color grading sliders.
Phenomenal work! Is there any chance we could get something similar for AC Valhalla (and Mirage)? I can’t think of a game with a worse HDR implementation, and it’s a real shame as the rest of the game is truly stunning. I use Lilium’s inverse tone mapping or special k for now, but a native fix would be amazing!
Hi, I don't own these games, only up to Odyssey. Fwiw, Valhalla and more recent also use a different version of the engine.
On that note I was told Origins' HDR could use some improvement, dunno about Odyssey. There are a few things I wish to improve in current addon before I look at adding more games. I am also taking a break from this to work on some other addon these days, so don't hold your breath.
Regarding Valhalla/Mirage, feel free to request in HDR Den Discord server. Link can be found here, there should be a dedicated Wishlist thread in the renodx channel. If needed I can be found in SpecialK server, link over there.
Hey, thank you for this so much. I am having issues getting it to work though. Whenever I launch Unity with the addon in the games folder, the game only opens in the background and I can only see it from the task bar preview and hear it and i cant maximize it, or open the window at all in any way. I turned off ubisoft and nvidia overlays and it didn't help either. Your Mafia mod worked perfectly so I am confused as to why, would you happen to have any ideas? thanks again!!!
edit: it was DLDSR, but it works if you change your resolution on the desktop
Wow this works and looks fantastically on my OLED. The ability to dim the HUD alone makes this way better than RTX HDR. Thanks a bunch!
One thing I noticed is that the map is very very bright because it's just full white all the way around the outside, so I get flashbanged every time I open it or zoom out too much ^^ Not sure there's anything that can be done about that tho..
Hey for some reason it crashes? I have tested running it in borderless windows, no reshade effects and same thing. when I press any key to start it crashes. Any help? Thank you.
Tried a bunch of stuff but nothing works unfortunately. Saw in other games like GOW some people have my same issue with the same type of mod. Hopefully I will find a solution soon. Still thanks!
It seems to crash if RTX HDR is on. Go into the Nvidia app and make sure RTX HDR is turned off on the program setting page. If Assassins Creed Unity isn't on the list click on the three dots and select "add a program".
It's not just you, I checked and slider is indeed not linked to anything... Sorry for that, adding it to Known Issues in description and looking into it for next update. Thanks for letting me know!
I don't really use RTX HDR, ultimately it comes down to personal preference so feel free to try it and see for yourself.
ReShade is very powerful, allows RenoDX to not only fix existing HDR implementations, but to also add native HDR support to games that had none. This video (better viewed with HDR on) demonstrates the difference in Tunic, which originally has no native HDR support either:
One of RTX HDR's benefit is to work pretty much universally I believe, whereas RenoDX addons have to be curated on a per game/engine basis. You can check the growing list of mods here on Nexus or even bigger list on RenoDX Github Wiki.
definitely better than RTX HDR. One of the biggest issues RTX HDR has is with games like AC Unity that clip highlights. With RTX HDR the entire sky is just a white blob while with AC Unity it's actually visible because the developer rewrote the game's post processing pipeline. On top of that there's also greater bit depth and no banding. RTX HDR tries to cover up the banding with a debanding filter that ends up just destroying shadow detail. This is a game I've been looking forward to having a RenoDX mod for a while.
RenoDX pretty much is like adding native HDR. It's much more customizable so you can fine tune it to your monitor and preferences. I've tried both and RenoDX is superior in my view.

Thanks both for letting me know.

Might have found the reason, should be fixed in incoming build.
Thanks again for letting me know!
Out of curiosity, what was the issue?

Thanks again for the report, have fun!

There is very much something to do about that, in fact I thought I had fixed bright menus already. Seems I didn't account for world map, my bad.
Will be fixed next update.
Edit: should be good now..!
Anyway thanks a bunch again!
Thanks for letting me know!
Edit: now fixed
