If the speed is not changing for you and you're still always running with WASD and/or mouse wheel makes you change your weapons, it means you didn't set up vanilla movement and switch sets keys (see install instructions on the description page).

If you need just a walk key, set jog magnitude to 1.0 and you will essentially have two speeds: scroll down to walk, scroll up to run.

    IMPORTANT!
While testing and playing we discovered that v.0.9 could cause CTD when attempting to travel in between maps (interacting with portal doors) while still holding forward key. The issue has proven to be a stubborn one, so in v.0.9.1 we had to simply clear the inputs on save game. Unfortunately, it means that your character will stop when quick saving or autosaving too. We continue to investigate the problem.
All the issues are resolved with 0.9.2, enjoy!

Any chance to make better use of analogue keyboards? I'm using the Razer Tartarus Pro which allows to bind Controller input to the keys. The further the key is pressed the faster the character runs. This works out of the box, but as soon as I move the mouse, the ui flickers between controller UI and Keyboard UI (sometimes key recognition stops completely). Basically the game recognizes controller input and mouse/keyboard input at the same time.

If you know how to fix this behavior I'd be ever grateful (and donate a little something if you like).

Just wanna thank you SO MUCH for this mod. It works perfectly, and the extra speed is a great feature. The ability to completely customize the speeds is fantastic as well... a walk button was just added (thanks Obsidian, lol), but I still much prefer this mod because it provides so much customization.

Maybe next time you can release a cool mod without insulting the people who spent years making the game, because your pet issue wasn't implemented the way you want it.

I don't know why Avowed doesn't have a walk button on PC. Crucially neither do you. The great news is you figured out how to mod it, I guarantee the devs think that's cool. We're all on the same team.

      Yikes dude.

Shade is deserved. Devs consistently ignore PC - if they don't want a rando modder to show them up pathetically, they should ensure functional feature parity across platforms. There is no reason to not include Walk on PC except for the fact that they just didn't care to.

You really enjoy being a second class customer?

Lol, c'mon. It's extremely valid to criticize them for not including a walk button. If you look around the internet for the topic, you'll see A LOT of people complaining about it - meaning it's absolutely a feature that many consider ESSENTIAL. And guess what... it IS essential!! It's in the console version, but NOT in the PC version! What sense does that make?? And it's INCREDIBLY EASY for them to implement!! Don't pretend that there's maybe some kinda mysterious reason it's not included besides a complete lack of concern. It's not hard for them to do. It's harder for US to do, yet a dedicated and gracious community member implemented it HIMSELF, and he deserves our thanks! He did what the devs shoulda done to begin with!

I'm not saying it's not a good game, and the devs don't deserve a ton of credit for making an overall quality game. But they DO deserve criticism for dropping the ball on an extremely easy to implement feature that shouldn't even be a question of whether it's included or not.

C'mon dude. This is a $70 USD game!! We have a right to hold this to a certain standard.

Sorry for a bit of a long message, but this reply is a needed one: it's not just games that need fixing, some posts too.

You people are so incredibly hypocritical: when someone says they need pronouns and 100+ genders in a game, you say yo, that's a must, because we need to be inclusive! devs must spend additional time to code all the possible combinations of body/voice/whatever! studios must spend additional money to create voiceovers with all the possible pronouns! they must add more romances with all those 100+ genders! it's very important! it's inclusivity! But then, suddenly, when PC players point out at a very simple feature missing for KB&M controls like a walk button, you insult them, try to devalue their claim with terms like "pet issue", and in the end go and tell them to buy a controller (in most of the arguments out there).

I am deeply sorry, but if you see an insult here, we've got a problem. Nowadays people see insults where are none. Each time they make a mistake and they are pointed at that mistake, they call it an insult.

"Excuse us, please, could you, please, spare 5 minutes of your precious time and, please, fix an issue with a $70 game I have paid you for?" Should players do it this way?

I was writing to Obsidian support since Outer Worlds about exact same problems with PC controls. To be fair: they did better this time, at least we've got an option for sprint/crouch hold now, but all the other issues are still here!

For Avowed issues that we fixed with our mods were reported by players multiple times and were never addressed in the patch by the developers: ultrawide issues in dialogs, cutscenes and loading screens, combined jump and dodge key, badly designed grimoire casting keyboard controls, missing walk/jog speeds for keyboard & mouse players.

(BTW, looking at HUD blueprint: the guy who was making that one deserves to be fired.)

You're saying we're on the same team? Alright, but then why after all that, we're still refused by Obsidian our request for two Steam keys? "Sorry, we have no keys, write to xbox". And xbox simply never replies. We're not rich, we explained that we're using an xbox subscription and we'll stop when it ends. But it's still a no or just total silence. Sorry, but it doesn't feel like we're on the same team.

He is upset because he doesn't get the game for free. If you're broke, just wait for a sale and don't beg for free keys from the developer or Xbox. Modding is not a job, and it makes no sense for developers or companies to give you free keys just because you are a modder.

@Azrael6996   I suppose next time I will have wait for good modders (in that case it's full job) to get the game at low price on discount sales to have crucial fix on a game ? jester. But don't forget to send free keys to influencers ! they are so crucial to fix those games with their bull**** talks.

I have installed the mod as per the instructions, and it works great, apart from occasionally, usually after combat I suddenly find I can't swap weapons. I have to reload the save to fix it. Not quite sure what might cause it, any suggestions? I tried installing twice, and changing around the keys, and it aways works fine, and it seems to happen randomly, and only when this mod is installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Which keys are you using for the mod's slowdown/speedup in Engine.ini? Which keys are you using for switching weapons in vanilla settings? (both primary and secondary)

The game has a habit of forcing some of the secondary settings to their default values if you leave them empty: for weapon switch it's mouse wheel, for crouch it's C. So you have to have them assigned to something even if you're not using them.

i have ctrl and V for weapon swap, and alt/c for crouch. I reinstalled a third time and still persists seemingly randomly, with quickloading fixing it. So weird lol

You have high potential of hitting some kind of system hotkey combination with Ctrl and Alt (plus sprint is probably on Shift? if so, it's even more potential). Try changing those keys to something else and see if it helps.

can we get a video of the differences?  In my case, id like a slower walk speed. this game is too fast moving.  needs to be slower. does this mod do such?

Yes, it does provide a fairly low walk speed. It has slow walk, faster walk, and jog. The speeds are perfect, imo.

Such a pity, i really like this mod but i only use standalone mods, without mod loader for UE5 games.

In this case you limit yourself with texture replacing and value editing, because loaders are the only way to get logic mods in.

There is a difference between dll injectors and native blueprint mods. UE4SS is an amazing and very useful tool (for reverse engineering UE games first and foremost), but some of the players hesitate to use it - and for a reason, because it's a dll injector and it can be unsafe. But for a sole purpose of instantiating your actor into the world (and all the logic of your mod with it), no injectors are actually needed - this can be done using standard UE means. Including such a code into each and every mod, though, is not possible: those mods will override each other. Hence, we need a generic loader to avoid such conflicts and be able to use multiple mods together.

This is why we decided to do our very own native loader with no injectors.

That's it. For almost every UE game you will find such a loader - purely blueprint based and safe, no external code, just UE logic.

I mean, it's really easy to install the mod loader. Just drag and drop a few files, and copy + paste some lines in an .ini. Legit takes 2 minutes to do.

This works great for the Game Pass version, but note the following:

In the installation instructions, you say "To install unpack the zip file and put r457PlayerMovement.pak/ucas/utoc (three files) into your "[Path To Avowed]\Alabama\Content\Paks\~mods" folder.",

to clarify, the actual Game Pass version location should be the following:  C:\XboxGames\Avowed\Content\Alabama\Content\Paks\~mods (substitute a different drive letter if you didn't install to C:).

It took me a moment to locate where the files are supposed to go.

    Can walk now, thanks!
