Hey there, can I request a version where you can twin cast in again with Metamagic? No Concentration, no Recast, No damage change and uses an action + a spell slot. I have been looking everywhere since the nerf it got while back.
Hey MaskedRPGFan :) Could i request a version? Bonus action (only on subsequent activations), no concentration, initial damage on level 1 is 2d12 instead of 1d12, but subsequent activations stay at vanilla 1d12 even with upcasting?
"Witch Bolt Enhanced. Deals upscaled damage on the subsequent activations according to level*d12, so now activation for lv 6 deals 6d12. Bonus Action only for subsequent activations"
And it works well up to level 6, but not with levels beyond it, enabled by mods such as unlockedLevelCurve or Level 30..
Might be an issue with other Spell Enhanced mods as well?
Casting another Witch Bolt while you have a link on a prior target (Target 1) doesn't remove the "link" on Target 1, resulting in 2 links (on target 1 and target 2), however casting the Subsequent Cast will only damage the latest target (Target 2) even though both of them have the Witch Bolt Link.
The subsequent cast on Target 1 gets replaced by the subsequent cast on Target 2.
Hey MaskedRPGFan, can I ask you to look into weather or not this is possible (there is a bug, needs fixing)?
This bug is present in the base game as well, im just asking if you could possible fix it or not. I am using the "bonus action on subsequent only" and 'WITH concentration" version of your mod. So normal activation is a regular action, subsequent is bonus, and requires concentration.
Problem is the concentration part. When you use it normally, everything works. However when you metamagic sorcerer TWIN spell, the concertation automatically breaks if you hit both targets, if one of them is a "miss" and the other is hit, it still works fine. So the issue is, I feel, that due to some reason, when targeting multiple enemies the concertation breaks.
Just saw another mod by @renyaoqin that fixes the twinned witch bolt concentration but it conflicts with this mod unfortunately. Would be nice to see a collab.
Finally, a Witch Bolt version that actually seems worth the time. I especially like the upgrade fix with bonus action for subsequent activations, a worthy trade off for spending high level slots and concentration.
What a great and necessary improvement, and with so many options! What two things I want to know are 1.) @MaskedRPGFan which one is most popular? And 2.) Everyone else: Which one do you think is most balanced? Personally, I think it's the improved scaling with subsequent BA while retaining concentration.
Absolutely agree. Baseline witch bolt is pure garbage, the bonus action + scaling is the only one that makes sense.
The base spell is just too weak to ever make sense, 1. Requires an attack roll, if miss, completely nullified. Most damage spells require a DEX save for 50% effect. 2. It deals 1d12, which is very marginally better then a cantrip, and some cantrips actually deal 1d12.
Now the subsequent effect might seem like a "bonus" but essentially it costs an Action AND CONCENTRATION to deal an average of 6.5 damage per round. That is garbage.
The bonus action cost makes it much more viable. The scaling makes it very strong, now the spell is one of the strongest single target options in the game, but I'd still say pretty balanced.
