Thanks for doing this but I have been wondering if you can do the same for more heads especially Vemperen's Daenastra's head. If it's too much it's fine.
You're welcome! I took a look, and to be honest, I wouldnt know how to do it. Sorry! Though, maybe someone else does it as the heads are really popular? The creator of the ears only just uploaded them less than a month ago. I'll see about eventually doing this to some other pre-existing heads, however.
omg thats so funny that I have been trying to parent ears that look just like these on the daenastra's head as well. So far no luck but if I crack the code, I will let you know!
I dont know how to do that, sorry! I didn't make the original ears, I only attached them to this specific head. The ears are linked in the descripion, maybe someone else has attached them to another head, or added them as a beard/earring slot!
I really wanted to make Frieren and managed to get somewhat similar hairstyle, but it really doesn't work well with vanilla ears. while these are a perfect fit, the head and face itself is.. it's horrible, compared to what mods have to offer.
so I'd need to choose between going with a horrible face, or horrible ears, but I'd really want to choose both. if you could provide a few tips on how can I attach the ears to a custom head in blender, I'd appreciate it a lot. I have zero experience in blender just like you once had, and would love to know more. I got GR2 files of the face and ears, I assume only those can be modified in Blender (Vemperen's heads have additional files that replace vanilla heads, those are in GR2 format, unlike the full .pak mod)
I've worked on a responce here for a few minutes, but it's rather hard to explain anything, without knowing exactly where you are in the process. This is in regards to how easy the head is to attach the ears onto, as well as just the fact that adding a new head to the game instead of altering an existing one is a bit different. SO, I don't know how helpful this is, but here's my personal playlist on BG3 modding (the first two videos are the most relevant to just attaching the ears), but note the version of Blender they use, and potential extensions you could add to blender to simplify the process. Something I got stuck on for a while, which iI wish someone told me about, was exactly how to fix weight issues for the ears, so I'm linking that here as well. I wish you luck! And since the Vemperen heads are quite popular I'm sure someones made a tutorial on those!
this is awesome! I've been trying to figure out some basic modding to use these ears, but I keep getting an error in blender when I try to enable the add ons -_-
I downloaded the new head but I can't find the pathway to replace the file. even when I open the game file location from steam, the only folder in the Data folder is for localizations. Anybody have any idea where these mysterious folders could be? I dug around for a while in my computer for a while to no avail.
If Localization is the only file, try to create a folder called "Generated" in the Data folder. In Generated make a file called "Public" In Public make "Shared" In Shared make "Assets" In Assets make "Characters" Then plop my "_Anims" file with all its contents inside Characters. The path should look like: ...Baldurs Gate 3\Data\Generated\Public\Shared\Assets\Characters\_Anims... If this doesnt work let me know!
That worked! yay! Thank you!! seems to be working, only problem i see is when my tav walks the ears detach and float behind her. but only happens when I'm zoomed out, they snap back into place when i zoom in lol
Well, that's really unfortunate💀 I haven't seen it happen on my game, but I'm usually zoomed in a bit. I'll see about fixing that! UPD: Should work now :)
I did :D The ears are edited on a bit differently now because I worried I had an opening somewhere, but instead the issues stemmed from the weight of the ears. It's why the ears followed so weirdly behind, I had accidentally gotten them too heavy for the skeleton and when I tried doing automatic weights instead, the armature of the head wasnt quite made for it since it was intended for short ears. It took a while but I managed to fasten them properly to the armature without disfiguring them now though, which I admit I did a couple of times haha!
Fantastic work! I haven't had time to do the tutorial yet, so I hope I'll have time for the others modders soon! I can't wait to see the other works with these ears if its planned !!
Thank you! Fantastic work with the damn ears! You simplified the task so much with the fully ready ears and just your quick instructions. I'm sure with an eventual tutorial out and time for it to spread, those ears will be on lot's of cutom heads from many people. Or at the very least, yes, I'll be here eventually trying them on some masculine heads and tieflings haha :D
