This mod is the culmination of different wonderful minds in the modding community, having come together to bring this labor of love to BG3.
Play as the Hobgoblin race, featuring four sub-races, unique racial progressions that go beyond 5e’s known content, a myriad of customization options, immersive character tags, and more.
The four sub-races of the Hobgoblin tribes are a reimagining of both 5e official content, and homebrew elements.
The Strongblade
The Generals of Maglubiyet, born for battle and conquest.
The Koalinth
Goblinoids of the sea, enlisted into the service of the lord of krakens, Panzuriel.
The Sunscorch
Draconic hobgoblins who share their hoard of treasures with the Blue Dragonflight.
The Harrowers
Mutated, bestial giants in direct service to the Fey that transformed them.
Each of these sub-races come with unique customization options and progressions. Tag systems were implemented using the Tag Framework to assign the Hobgoblin tag, as well as remove the Baldurian tag. The Harrowers’ lore calls that their skin is seen as that of a silver beast’s, which netted them the bestial tag from us.
This mod features two body types, both of which are fitted to the Half-Orc body types. To help players get into the spirit of their character, a plethora of head options, 12 per body type, were developed for use. 2 hairstyles, and 4 beards were either retrieved from the game files or hand crafted for use in customization. A custom make-up atlas was implemented as a replacer for the Hobgoblins, with a custom tattoo atlas as well. Fingernails for each body type can be colored using the horn color picker. Each sub-race features customization systems unique to them.
Strongblade - the tamest of the bunch, these hobgoblins come with all the general amenities the mod offers regarding skin tones, tattoos, make up, piercings, etc. This was to ensure that the Strongblade maintained the “purity” of being a typical Hobgoblin.
Koalinth - Scales adorn the Koalinth that are colorable using the horn color picker.
Sunscorch - Scales adorn the Sunscorch that are colorable using the horn color picker. Further still, these Hobgoblins leverage the Draconic Bloodline customization atlas to pick a scale pattern for your hobgoblin. These are colorable separate from the body.
Harrower - Sporting the same customization options as the Strongblade, these Hobgoblins stand out through the markings on their bodies, which glow a brilliant red.
All 4 sub-races feature different eye materials as well, creating a unique experience between all the options!
Progressions
Leveling a Hobgoblin features many homebrewed abilities and passives that go beyond the source material they are derived from. This was a group decision to create something that leans completely into the “fun factor” that BG3 supports.
A full write up of the progressions list will be found under articles; feel free to check the document out!
*NOTE: There is a 5e RAW patch that is under Miscellaneous files that can be loaded after the main mod to utilize their progressions. Note that each sub-race will no longer have any difference between each other, other than cosmetics. This patch requires Compatibility Framework and will require that to be placed at the bottom of your load order.*
Installation
We recommend utilizing BG3 Mod Manager as the go to option for your modding needs. We will not be providing support for Vortex Mod Manager needs at this time, so apologies there.
Installation is as easy as extracting the pak file from the zip downloaded into your mods folder. C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods is the default location, but your results may vary depending on your setup. All patches for additional hairstyles, heads, piercings, etc. should all come after the main mod in your load order.
Hard Requirements
BG3 Script Extender - The mod will NOT work as intended without Script Extender. This is required for the textures to work, as well as other functionality found throughout the mod. This does unfortunately mean that MacOS users cannot use the Hobgoblin mod. We currently have no plans in releasing a non-script extender version of the mod at this time, as this would upend many different, hard worked elements of the mod.
Baldur’s Gate Mod Fixer
Improved UI and Improved UI Assets
Tag Framework - needed to remove Baldurian tag and implement the Hobgoblin tag.
Baldur's Gate 3 Community Library
Jerinski’s Alt Hairs - these hairs are a requirement for the default set hairstyles for the various subraces. The patch for these hairstyles is also needed, see the optional patches in the files tab.

A: At present, this is not on our radar. It may change in time, but for now, compatibility has not been set up.
Q: Will there be Eye of the Beholder compatibility?
A: In time, sure! Will update the mod page once that is completed. Keep in mind this may impact the fact that each sub-race has their own separate eye material.
A: Yes! below are some great options to include in your playthrough:
Gods Extra - includes Maglubiyet and Pazuriel!
Astralities Glow Eyes - reportedly can change the glow color effects of the Harrowers!
Goblin Armors - for obvious reasons :)
EmeraldTechno for bug fixes and support of the creative process
