hey just a quick ask but can you make it so you can just choose ANY 2 1rst level spells and copy any ritual spell scrolls you find into it to allow you to use those ritual spells permanently? i like the hurting spell even if it also does kinda feel a bit op but ultimately, i would personally really like the 5e version of ancient book of secrets.
Happy New Year. I decided to try asking for another version of the “book of ancient secrets”. It seems that no one else is interested in it, since there are no other mods for it. Can you make the same spells as in the original, but with power scaling from the cell level, or at least just 4 levels? I like the idea of expanding the warlock's arsenal, but level 1 attack spells at level 7 and above, are simply useless. There's no point in even wasting a turn on them. Thank you for your attention.
I do use invocations expanded, and both mods seem perfectly compatible. The one I had issues with was one that altered Warlock Progression files. To be on the safe side, simply load my mod above the others.
In terms of balancing, both of the ritual spells should be available as per 5e. Technically, Book of Ancient Secrets should give something similar to the Wizard ability to learn spells from scrolls but only for rituals, but BG3 doesn't have nearly as many rituals as 5e, so I split the difference and gave two useful rituals and an extra thematic ability.
In terms of restricting the ability to use Hurting, I'm not sure it's needed since it's kind of weak already (the separate effects can be removed easily and the main effect is saved against every turn), but it also would go against the spirit of the Invocation, which is to give the Warlock access to certain spells very often.
The invocations that give specific spells (flight, etc), on a long rest are balanced around the fact they give quite strong spells that are not on the Warlock spell list. Hurting is an entirely unique spell to this invocation to go along with the theme of "ancient secrets" and is quite a lot weaker than Dominate Person, Flight, etc.
In Fear & Hunger, it just deals damage, but you're correct it's where I got the name from. It felt fitting given that I just wanted an over-time debuff with some evil flavor.
isn't the damage usually enough to just rip off a limb as well? Aside from that, mod looks super cool , think I'll give it a download. Does this scale as you continue to level, similar to a cantrip, or should I expect it to fall off after a certain point?
The damage is there to make it more worth using an action on, but it will drop off later since the -1d4 penalty to rolls will be less relevant at higher levels. I might look into making that a 1d6 and increasing the damage at character lvl10.
Since the Saving Throw is based on your Spell Threat DC, it will become more difficult for enemies to resist since CHA is a pretty rare stat to see above 12 for most enemies.
It seems like it's best to cast on tougher enemies that aren't the main threat in an enemy party to make them easier to deal with by your weaker damage dealers and less of a threat.

Also, not sure about compatibility but do you use the invocations expanded mod, how well would these play together do you think?
