Hey all - I've just published a very large update to this mod. There are lots of changes laid out on the main page. But feel free to reply here with any questions you have :)
Amazing mod, awesome job. I think the only thing is the Winter's Shroud VFX are a bit much, very opaque. However, that's just personal taste so keep up the great work.
Hey thanks for the feedback! Glad you're enjoying it :)
Honestly, I actually completely agree with you on Winter's Shroud. It's something I made a while back when I was still very new to modding, and I don't think it ever turned out quite as polished as I wanted it to. I am very open to feedback on that Channel Divinity. I am not a visual effects expert, but the whole "Winter Storm" type thing is a tricky thing VFX-wise to implement and get right in AllSpark unfortunately (Larian's VFX editor). And there's not really a precedent for that in the game already. I could, of course, replace it whole-sale (which I've considered) but that would be a pretty big change to the Domain as a whole.
Loved this mod pre patch 8, and glad I can download it again.
Curious to see if any changes were made to Frostbite blade. I found it quite weak when compared to other modded green flame blade and Booming blade. Hopefully that is fixed.
Sad to see the twinned ray of frost gone. I really liked that one.
Regardless, can't wait to try out the new version!
Yes sadly I felt in a weird spot with Ray of Frost. A lot of people felt like it was a bit OP and yet I couldn't really flesh out that feature due to the lack of cold cantrips. So I felt it best to change things. As mentioned in the patch notes though, Chilling Blast scales very closely in damage in mid-late game.
Frostbite Blade was buffed to be in line with Booming Blade :)
Also sad to see twin ray of frost gone. The Chilling Blast is more balanced I suppose, but it doesn't have the slow effect ray of frost does. The update does look great though.
Just reading the update and LOVE the changes. Love the versatility to be more martial or caster, and the glacial ward is thematic and will always be useful. Thank you!!
It should yes. Was it working while on the Nautiloid? I don't know of any reason why it would disappear after leaving...
EDIT: I just tested this to verify and see no issues with Chilling Blast on my end. I started on the Nautiloid and it worked and still worked after I left.
It was working on the nautiloid the first time I tried the mod and then just stopped generating the beam effect. Even when starting a new save it doesnt do the effect anymore. It's probably some issue with my system or smth as Ive purged all bg3 related folders and reinstalled the game twice lol. First time it happened was with multiple mods and after reinstalling etc. I tried it with only this one installed and still the same. Still a very cool mod and I love ice type classes in games, will probably just make do with an ice draconic sorcerer
Yeah that is weird. I tried loading it up by itself and had no issues. If I get other reports of this I'll definitely look into it more. but right now I'm not seeing anything. If you feel like checking, I'd be curious if it works on this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/15399 You can get the same cantrip if you select "Ice Weaver" at level 1.
This mod is amazing! Thanks for your work! I'd love a standalone version of the frostbite blade cantrip to offer an ice themed Booming Blade for Bladesingers without the need to go 1 level cleric.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoying it! I am currently working on some large updates to this subclass (balancing adjustments and new features). But adding Frostbite Blade as a standalone wouldn't be too difficult. However, in the meantime there is this: https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/1188. Full disclosure I've never used that mod so I don't know anything about the VFX or if it's maintained. But it might suite your needs :)
Fantastic mod...I was going to start a new playthrough as a Frost Cleric but should I wait for the updates first? proabably makes more sense...obviously just asking but do you think the updates will be coming soon? Great mod again...works well with a Talos cleric in particular!
Oh wow, thank you so much! I've been using that mod for a while and it seems to work great. Had some minor hiccups before it got updated sometime in patch 7's life cycle, but those were easily fixed, so i can pretty much vouch for that mod! I was mainly interested in the added booming blade-ish function yours provides, since it fits better thematically to a dexterous spellblade that shouldn't really be hit, but mobile in combat.
I'm for sure excited to see what you do with the update! (Selfishly crossing my fingers for scaling dmg on your version of Frostbite Blade, but I'll be using the mod either way!) Again, huge thanks for your work, it's been absolutely fantastic already!
Chilling blast scales exactly like Eldritch Blast in terms of projectiles. So: Levels 1-4: 1 beam Levels 5-9: 2 beams Levels 10+: 3 beams If you pick up Potent Spellcasting at level 8 you basically have the equivalent of Eldritch Blast + Agonising Blast but a cold/frost variant.
I haven't had a chance to test it yet. But from what I'm hearing from ImpUI and Patch 8 I would expect it to mostly work I'm just unsure about some UI elements. That said I can't guarantee anything but I will have more information later.
Just to circle back here - there should be no issues with Patch 8 that I'm aware of. I will be pushing a small update soon to adjust the dependencies (ImpUI should no longer be required). But you should have no issues continuing to play with it :)
I really like the flavor of this subclass, but is there any chance you could add some cold damage onto the hit of Frostbite Blade? It just seems like a worse version of booming blade which at level 12 for example adds an extra 2d8 thunder dmg on hit in addition to it's thunder dmg if they move.
Yeah I think I was trying to prevent it from feeling OP at the time - especially considering you can pump Divine Strike into it at level 8. But I wouldn't be opposed to small buff here. Full disclosure - I have a number of updates I'm currently planning for this subclass to adjust balancing and flexibility in a few areas and that's probably something that could be included.

So:
