This comment section is very messy. Here's a few things that are either general replies or notes before posting:
When the game updates the UI in a patch, it will break UI mods. I have added the patch 7 version ahead of the update this week. I have also added a misc file to allow saves to continue after patches drop.
Patch/common issues deserve their own section, so I've added one below.
Common misconceptions - This mod doesn't affect dice rolls, access to magic mirror, action/spell icons, and story elements (entering/exiting dialogues/cutscenes). All of these (apart from action/spell icons) are potentially due to missing Story Fix/Mod Fixer, problems with the save/mod load order, or not up-to-date, among many other reasons why. This comment section isn't for general mod troubleshooting.
Reporting an issue - Please provide more than just "It's not working" because I can't do anything with it. Something wrong visually? Take screenshots/video. Using other mods? Then share your mod order.
It seems that some people have been spreading mixed messages about requiring Story Fix/Mod Fixer, so I'm just going to put it here. The game added a partial recompile during the initial release of patch 1. This was removed in less than 24 hours. Some mods already have the fix within them, some mods dont need the fix. Starting new saves with only ImprovedUI added to mod order requires a full recompile that is triggered by using Story Fix, even if Script Extender is installed. If no mods are added to mod order, Story Fix isn't required.
Apparently some people have extracted the loose files for this mod, or mod this way with other UI mods. Just use the install instructions and pak your UI mods so they can be managed.
This mod updates the UI elements only (what is shown on the screen). This does not add or change features within the game.
UI modding in BG3 has its limits - if another mod overwrites the same files, this mod would not work fully. This includes Customizer's Compendium and Full Release Mod Fixer.
Half of this mod does not have an immediate impact on the game, but would be required for current/future mods that use the UI changes. This doesn't help in highlighting what the mod does fully. A video will be done eventually
Controller UI is difficult to improve without overhauling more than just the UI. Controller improvements are planned ahead of console mod support.
I'm not going to be able to respond to every comment, but I do read them. I'm active on the official Larian Discord and there's a channel for BG3 mod support.
Patch 7 - Available on Nexus, is also available on Mod.io or BG3 mods page
Patch 6 - This will not be updated going forward, but will always be available to download on Nexus. Please delete patch 6 or earlier versions before launching patch 7.
Potential issues with patch 7:
REMOVE ANY SHADERS OR OTHER MODS THAT AFFECT THE GRAPHICS WHICH HAVE NOT UPDATED FOR PATCH 7. Don't blame me for issues outside my control.
Warning that isn't going away about mods not updated after saving - it's a Larian modding issue (not amending the list of mods linked to the save file), I'm unable to replicate, you can still load your saves just fine. There are ways to extract the save data mod list and remove the mod entries from it, but I won't endorse it here as it's unsupported.
Remove any older versions, that's both "ImprovedUI" and "ImprovedUI Assets". Patch 7 is just one file - you don't need an "Assets" file any more, because its functionality has been replaced by both changes to the UI made by Larian and the new custom action resource process. You can run those old patch 6 saves without ImprovedUI, it's fine. However, I can't guarantee the same for other mods from patch 6, especially ones that made gameplay or cosmetic changes.
Put ImpUI patch 7 above any other UI mods in your mod order. Yes it's not an override, an "official" mod cannot be an override. It's more likely for other UI mods to overwrite this mod and stopping its functionality: Oversized icons/portraits missing etc are all issues stemming from outdated mods that overwrite ImpUI but wouldn't have taken effect in previous patches because ImprovedUI overwrote them. Since ImpUI cannot override to be an official mod, the only fix is to remove the culprit(s). Start by removing any mod/shader/loose files/etc that hasn't updated for patch 7 yet (including mods with different names for the mod fixer file other than forcerecompile.txt) - they would need to be taken out of your mods folder not just uninstallled since the game reads all mods in the mods folder (even if they are disabled)
There are some features that are not included in patch 7, see differences on the main mod description. The most noticeable is the pop-ups, it's impossible for "official" mods and would cause issues with being able to receive the new mod pop-ups that appear in-game. An "unofficial" version of this mod would be required.
Common issues (not updated for patch 7):
The latest version of this mod is designed for the latest version of the game. If you're using an older version of the game, you'd need an older version of the mod (which would be unsupported) and vice versa, updating the game requires updating mods. This mod contains multiple lines of UI code from the base game to implement changes in certain locations, and when Larian changes their code, this mod has been updated to mirror their changes. This has included multiple line-by-line reviews to ensure parity with the base game.
You have another mod overwriting this mod. Any mod that overwrites this mod is obviously unsupported. This goes for any other overwrite mods that affect the same files as ImprovedUI. This is especially problematic if those mods are not updated. Keep an eye out for "ImprovedUI Compatible" versions of other UI mods. In BG3MM, mods that overwrite base game files are highlighted in red, you can identify affected mods by hovering over the red ones and this will list the files/sections that are replaced in the "Overwritten builtin folders" section.
You have an issue with your modding setup. I would recommend using BG3MM to setup your mod lists. This comment section isn't for general mod troubleshooting.
You have an issue with your game. I can't fix base game issues, issues with saves and issues with your installation.
I've been told that this mod used to allow you to change the Human Versatility proficiency when you respec, but I haven't been able to. I can change High-Elf cantrips at Withers, though. Is anyone else having this problem, or has it just not been reimplemented yet? I am using it through the in-game mod manager if that means anything.
I see a few different comments now about bibsan's CC fixes causing loops back to the main menu. I've always seen that problem from missing UUIDs which is... strange, since this is a UI edit and nothing has been changed about its UUID. The only thing different I can see UUID-wise between Patch 8 Slim and bibsan's Patch 8 CC Fixes is the dependencies they use.
If anyone's down to do some testing, I prepared two different test versions you can try.
⚠️ DISCLAIMER: I'm still on Patch 7 so I can't help you with Patch 8 issues in any way!!!! ⚠️
INSTRUCTIONS First remove whichever ImpUI version you have installed (Patch 7, Patch 8 Slim, or Patch 8 CC Fixes). MANUALLY remove this file from your Mods folder (Larian Studios > Baldur's Gate 3 > Mods). Then, download a version to try and place in your Mods folder. ONLY TEST ONE VERSION AT A TIME. DO NOT USE BOTH TOGETHER.
A solved my Choices Pending bug. Seems to be related to a Variant Human mod (required a change to the respec screen - which the CC version allowed but the base version (patch 8) did not.
I do have a weird - almost non-problem. You list CrossplayUI as a requirement (and I've got 1 heads mod that does this also) - neither of these seem to actually care if CrossplayUI is loaded, and I'm not sure where that even comes from. Do I actually need to use Crossplay for this to be in my load order?
@Greywynd I left the dependency requirements completely as-is on Test A beyond adding GustavDev back in. As for why CrossplayUI is a dependency in the first place I couldn't really say, that's more of a question for bibsan.
Generally, declaring a dependency is used not only to 1) ensure a required mod is actually installed but also to 2) force a particular load order. The current dependency list (MainUI, CrossplayUI, PhotoMode) seems more to me like a way to prevent Patch 7 users from accidentally using it through checking for Patch 8-only files. (Idk if that's actually the case tho)
What's very weird to me is why GustavDev dependency seems to be fixing issues, because I didn't think it would be a problem removing it in the first place. 😞
Hi! Thanks for your updates. Test Version A finally helped me start a new game on Patch 8. However, when another player connects to me, we get a warning that this mod is different, although this is not true. We have absolutely the same load order. And he cannot connect until he disables this mod.
@lashervoid Is that player also using my Test Version A? AFAIK the mod list for multiplayer has to be completely the same for every player. Otherwise you can check out the multiplayer troubleshooting guide.
The latest Patch 8 CC update seems to turn off my load order and recognized mods. Unfortunately I don't know why or how to handle this. Any tips I should be looking at specifically?
Hey I appreciate the response, and I mainly use BG3MM. Sometimes the in-game mod manager doesn't catch up and yells errors at me. If I touch anything to try and fix or sync them, I lose my load order.
There's definitely an issue with Vortex and this mod. For some reason, when Vortex exports the modlist to modsettings.lsx, it deletes the GustavX entry causing errors. It can be manually resolved by re-adding the entry back in or by using BGMM (which doesn't seem to have this problem from my testing) to export.
Hi, everything works fine except for when I right-click on items and they're just blank. I can't click on them and they do nothing. (this is after the patch 8 update).
I have tried disabling impui and all the ui just disappears, and I have switched between using the patch 7 version and the slim patch 8 and it stays the same. Tysm for the help C:
lol that Astrion outfit is awesome :)), with all those icons and outfits that I can see, one of your ---spell/class/subclass/outfit--- mods is causing this. impui is such that it provides tools and resources for XML edits, or auto-add some(to my limited knowledge of game data structure), so it's unlikely to cause this. If you have the wrong overwrites or loose files, then that's a prime suspect and may cause this to happen. You need to clean uninstall the game. empty your %appdata% of this game folders, delete script extender too, uninstall the mod manager as well, and then reinstall the game. Loose files and overwrites can remain active even if you delete them from mod manager and lots of outfits come as overwrites. On patch 7, you won't notice them as they are working, and when you upgrade, suddenly the game goes crazy. Bibsan explained how to clean reinstall the game, read his post, and troubleshoot the mods by reinstalling them one by one and running tests. P.S. Any particular reason you don't use Vova hotbar, or don't know about it? It's great give it a try.
I almost love how I just wanted to play a hexblade warlock smt. and instead I found myself here searching for fixes for abstly weird things right and left, should have left it on patch7 for a few months. do not expect everything to go great, even after a clean install, it's just like that for now.
The crazy thing is that the ImpUI Patch 8 Slim works perfectly excluding the Character Customization issues etc. I can't figure out why I'm having issues with ImpUI Patch 8 CC fixes.
When I use the CC version the UI in character creation is correct, but I cannot proceed because of a text input box that pops up on the screen and won't go away.
I can get into character creation when I use the non-CC Slim version, but the hotbar appears at the bottom of the screen (and dummy portraits appear on the left). I can't proceed because the hotbar overlaps.
i did save my day by downloading Slim version and bibsan and leaving them 1st and 2nd in mods load order respectively, a bit unorthodox, but it worked. I can explain why I tried it I can't explain why it worked :) . Regardless, for folks stuck on the loading screen, you might as well give it a shot.
Can someone please help me ,I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I had this mod as well as some others installed back during patch 6 when I played the game. Since then I deleted it and redownloaded it for patch 8 and I also updated all the mods. All of them seem to work fine, the only mod that seems to be causing an issue is the impui mod. Every time I try to reload my save it just brings me back to the main menu because the improved ui mod is causing an issue. I have tried updating the mod but my game still won't load. Can anyone help please ?

I'm confused if I should replace the Patch 8 slim with the Patch 8 CC Fixes too, if anyone knowsIt's the screen you are on when creating your character at the beginning of the game, in the magic mirror, or when leveling up/reclassing.
