Updated the .PDF to contain images. Please read through carefully! Most have gotten this to work, so if you encounter an error, run through the process again.
For troubleshooting reasons, please comment if this worked for you or not AND if you tried removing script mods or not. It seems like script mod removal is what's causing error messages for some people, but I would like to test further. Thank you!
- Make sure you are always running the most recent beta version of LSLib - it updates often! - Remove the mods manually before attempting, or the game may try to find the mod even if you follow this method. - Game gives you a warning of tampered saves? Ignore it. As long as you backed up your old saves, it's fine. - Some people are finding better luck setting their compression to LZ4, while some are not. Try both if encountering conversion issues or if your save isn't showing up in-game. - Game freezing at 70% loaded? Some people have had luck waiting it out, while some have not.
After some small problems after following this guide i can confirm it works brilliantly.
However an additional requirement seems too be that if you have BG3 Script Extender installed that needs too be disabled.
These additonal steps after following this tutorial worked for me.
• 1: Disable BG3 Script Extender • 2: Load Save Game • 3: Make New Save • 4: Exit Game • 5: Re-Enable BG3 Script Extender • 6: Load New Save • 7: Done!!!
Thank you so much for this guide by the way, saved my 38 hour playthrough! Time too continue it!
So I got it all the way through. but when I go to switch the save files to the new ISV file. the ISV file disappears. Every time I go see the folder, it just suddenly disappears and I dont know how to fix this.
Downloaded this mod because i was mid playthrough and wanted the githyanki armor and weapons from another mod. Now that i have them i disabled this mod but i ant load save without it
Followed the instructions a few times and it kept loading to 75% and crashing to desktop, THEN I tried another method and deleted everything in the .LSX that wasn't directly from Larian and that got it to load all the way to 100% but it still crashed, would really like any other ideas, I think i disabled the SE already by deleting the right file, not sure what my next step should be
I followed the steps twice and when i load the game it shows the save file i edited as a separate playthrough with NO name attached the original save file in the campaign is missing as well does anyone know any fixes?
If anyone finds a way to remove the blasted BCB mod some assistance would be appreciated. Followed the instructions down to the very letter multiple times and no fix. Im not too intelligent when it comes to modding but im willing to learn a thing or two to get this damned mod off my file. For now ill just have to live with it.
If it weren't for this tutorial AND racegdod's additional steps I would've lost my 60 hour playthrough after uninstalling by accident a weapons mod and not being able to reinstall due to the creator deleting it off the face of the Earth. Thank you so much!
(Edit) The images were VERY helpful in executing this method, thank you!
TLDR: This DID work on a campaign started before Patch 5, whose save is also Pre Patch 5. This DID NOT work on a campaign started since Patch 5, whose save is obviously also since Patch 5.
Pre Patch 5 Save: As stated above, I got this method to work on a save, whose campaign was started before Patches 4 and 5.
Post Patch 5 Save: This method did not work for me. The game attempts to load the save, but goes back to the main menu. The mod I am trying to delete is the Basket of Equipment. I would greatly appreciate other options to get my saves working, as none of my 5 campaigns work as of Patch 5.
Notes: I tried this two times on two different saves. Both of which are only missing one mod (not a script mod). Both saves were created today.
Additionally I tried the method described below by Caranud, and that did not work for me either.
Unfortunately, I am having the same issue as you with a Post Patch 5 save. Followed the instructions correctly (I think) because when I try to load the save it doesn't have the "Save contains missing mods" notification. This makes me think my edited save did successfully remove the mods I want to remove. However, when I load the save it just pops back to the main menu. I am not getting any errors, it just loads to 100% then goes to the press any key to continue menu.
For what it's worth- I use Vortex for mod management and running the DX11 version.
I have the same issue now, the game loads to 100% then resets to 0% and goes back to main menu. gotta wait for larian maybe, no new mods for me until this is fixed :(
well if you know how to mod a little you can also fix this with 1. Unpack Basket of Equipment Mod (unpack.pak that you put in mod folder with baldur's gate 3 export tool) 2. Then delete all content file and left only Mods\File name\meta.lsx 3. Pack them back with Baldur's Gate 3 Modder's Multitool 4. You'll get new mod.zip file that there're no content in it 5. Install it with BG3ModManager as usual
Done you can load your save with that mod still on but it's empty mod now so it will do nothing just like you uninstall it
Same issue here for all saves I updated to patch 5. Worked fine before the Hot fixes though I'm not sure which hotfix caused this. My patch 4 saves are completely fine and able to load
Does this works also for all mods including also the mods that modify the enemies (like Stronger Bosses and Enemies for example) without breaking something?
Same for me. The only mod I'm trying to remove is Basket of Equipment NSFW. Every time I remove it then load the game, it warns me that the mod is no longer there but when I press continue nothing happens. I did the instructions on this mod which made it so that the game would try to load it but after, it gives a warning that the save file has been tampered with then after 100% of loading it goes back to the main screen with a load error with code 302
oilnarak01 thank you! The previous fix did nothing (I think there was something wrong with the mod as it had weird behavior right from the start) but your solution worked perfectly!
I'm experiencing the same problem as others are with the post-Patch 5 saves. I no longer get the error message, but after loading, it just goes to the main menu screen.
@oilnarak01 Hi I am having this problem and trying your method for a handful of mods. Does this exact method work for other mods like transmog enhanced, BagsBagsBags, or others that use a script extender? Any help would be so appreciated, thanks.
Does anyone have any more information about the issue where "Honor" (or "Honour") is listed in that warning as a previously installed mod, and if that is causing crash on load?
Edit: Turns out it's an issue with BG3MM listing the honour (and dice set 6) as mods when they are not. Some posts online suggest if you've accidentally loaded them in the past that perhaps re-adding them (posts are out there) could work. I'm still crashing though sadly.

And how do I detect what mod is causing my problems? For me is a crash at Moonrise towers, idk what is causing it.
Getting this warning, then the game brings me back to the loading screen.

I can confirm, it no longer works after Patch 5 saves. :( Was able to use it in PAtch 4 saves, no problem, but with Patch 5 and newer, I cannot.
After testing only removing certain mods, I got the save to load! So the process still works thankfully!
