i dont know anything about modding so this is godsent thank you. however i really wanted my strong tiefling girl to have a custom background so i even went searching for it on the modkit tool AND THERE ISNT ONE?? every humanoid has a "strong" version for portraits bg except tielfings. huh??
I wish there were a way to stop the system from using the same portrait backgrounds with a certain race and unique NPCs (shadowheart, gale). I changed the male Dragonborn portrait but Shadowheart's portrait is also changing the same which is simply MADDENING!!!
This mod has Generated/Public/Shared/Assets/_Helpers/Helper_PortraitGeneration_Background/Resources/Helper_PortraitGeneration_Background_Custom_11_BM.DDS file in it (if you unpack the .pak with LSLib).
If you were to rename it (or create a new file) to Helper_PortraitGeneration_Background_Custom_06_BM.DDS it should replace tiefling male backgrounds (they don't seem to have a separate entry for the strong body).
Thanks for your help! When I unpacked it I figured I needed to rename it to something, but I wasn't sure what since it was just a number, rather than a race name like a lot of character files are. I didn't realize the Tieflings all had the same background, but maybe I didn't notice because the poses of BT2 and BT4 are massively different? A shame they went with such a boring pose for the BT4 Tiefling, when BT2 (and I presume 1) has a really dynamic, dramatic pose by comparison.
Still, the background change on its own should be good enough! Thank you again, fluffy!
As to the background, I'll do some experimenting, as I think my assumption was correct and strong Tieflings do indeed have a different background. Evidenced by still having the odd blue one after using the mirror. I'll try renaming to 03 and see if that's the one. Can't be too hard to narrow it down. :)
Edit: Had the most luck with 02, so far. But rather than getting the black background, it made it darker blue. Still, some progress is better than none, lol. Edit 2: Upon closer look, it seemed to change to the same dark blue background Astarion has. Still not sure how that even happened, considering I'm currently using the black background. Edit 3: 02 is indeed strong Tiefling, or at least strong male Tiefling. The color you get ultimately depends on what you use; it seems to fuse colors with the original background. I don't know how do get a total replacement, but I'm happy to have figured out how to finagle different colors.
The light of portrait also determines how portrait looks. It's in a .lsf file. That can be changed too. I will edit this reply if once I find that file again
If you want to find these files for yourself and don't want to use the files I attached in the tutorial, you need to unpack the "Textures" file with BG3 multitool first
Are there additioal steps to get this working with Unique Tav, like there are for the pose style? I've tried getting it to work following the instructions posted here, but no dice, and that's the most likely reason
I've tried both the back and loose files, neither work for my T4 Wood Half-Elf, is there a different name I need to use (other than the one in the top comment)?

I'm so glad to finally find a mod that edits the portraits maybe in the future you can make an option to choose whatever pose I would don't even know if that's possible but that would probably be the coolest thing I've ever seen on Nexus
