Could you make a version of the mod that adds stacking effects? E.g. you find multiple of the same book, they give +2 (maybe capped by proficiency, or simply uncapped). I think that could be fun, and encourage exploration :D
Edit: For those interested, I found a potential implementation of this idea. Unpacking the pak, and then opening this: KnowledgeIsPower\Public\KnowledgeIsPower\Stats\Generated\Data\KnowledgeIsPower.txt You can modify the BOOK_MAGIC_* entries (not the auras). Remove their StackId, and replace their StackType with "Stack" instead of "Ignore".
Admittedly, to get this to work, you'll need to load this edit prior to generation of the items (occurs the first time you enter a location), and you'll also need to split the item stacks into individual books. I will update this post if I find a fix for these issues :)
I am wondering if there's a compatibility issue between this and Mark Books As Read. I just found my first blue rarity book but nothing is happening to the concerned skill. Or at least the change is not showing in the UI.
My guess is that because Mark Books As Read changes book rarity to uncommon/green to make sure the tick box appears for already read books, it messes up with this mod's mechanic of making those skill books rare/blue rarity?
I do have Knowledge is Power loaded after Mark Books As Read but it doesn't seem to help. I don't know if it matters, but I am playing on Patch 6 but without any of the later hotfixes.
I uninstalled Mark Books As Read which gave back some of the skill books their blue rarity, and those work just fine. I will reinstall it but disable the rarity change. Should hopefully fix everything.
Interesting, I wouldn't have thought it would conflict because the rarity is mainly for show, so you don't have to wonder if you missed any books. I can look into it later though, when I have time.
Actually, after some further testing, it is still unclear to me what my problem is. Since I disabled the rarity filter from Mark Boos As Read, some of them that weren't working before are now working, but not all of them (I have a Religion and a Sneak book not applying a buff). In addition to that, I found a book with Investigation +1 but it's grey/white instead of blue, and does not work for me either. So there is no clear logic to any of my issues. The problem might just be that I started this playthrough without Knowledge is Power but added it part-way through... I'm not sure of anything anymore though to be honest haha.
I've got this last in my load order, and the books are appropriately blue and list the skill bonuses, but they're not actually working. Neither in the skill panel, nor when those skills are used. Anyone have any idea why that might be?
Very cool idea and good execution too. Feels like it could've been in the game by default. I always hoard all the books for no good reason so this will give me one lol. Love those kind of mods.
This gonna be great for my next playtrought when I plan to be sorcerer but book nerd (and romancing Gale-again ofc), gotta read all the books this time and now I will have even more reason to search for them. Thanks!
I always collect books but there was never any real reason for it, just felt like I had to have someone be a walking library. Glad you like the idea though!
First of all, this is a genius idea and I love it. It was insanely fun to download it and then check if my chest of hoarded books had any new surprises and it did! I think the choices you've made (I'm only at the start of Act 3, so I've only found maybe 8 or 10 of them so far?) are wonderful, and I can see the logic behind them. If you expand this mod you can count on me to get it! So far all of the books I've found work completely seamlessly aside from the Persuasion book which has a more coding-looking 'name' on the bonuses list on persuasion check rolls, but that does not impact how it works at all.
Oh dang, that's a good count, impressive. I'm really glad you're enjoying the mod and thanks for not including any book spoilers!
I tried to find fitting books but it didn't seem possible for all of them, so some were chosen with a loose logic in mind or 'lessons learned' type thing.
Looks like I overlooked the name appearing there, it should be fixed now. Don't want the name to have a jarring, out-of-place feeling in the bonus list so thanks for letting me know!
Yeah, I saw this and said, Oh nice!! I mean I enjoy reading them since Larian put in the work to create them, but the boost in your inventory makes so much sense. Thanks @BitterPast !
Thank you for this Mod! In Skyrim and ESO random books make a difference and encourage reading and a deeper understanding of the Lore. I appreciate your putting that encouragement into reading in BG3.

-Do you sell books here?
-Of cause, we have quite a selection of..
-Excellent!, give me 2!
Jokes aside, this is a dumb idea. Knowledge is binary, it doesn't stack with copies of itself.
As for knowledge, you do you. I wanted to see if there was a way to achieve what I wanted, so I did.
I won't force you to play the way I like.
