What Open Faerun is NOT:
- A call-to-arms.
- A display of protest.
- A request for Mod Tools
- An us-versus-them statement that seeks to demonize Larian employees and affiliated teams.
What Open Faerun IS:
- A declaration of purpose.
- A tool for fostering communication and collaboration.
- A desire for improved moderation in Larian spaces
- A pledge to openness, community, ghaik-slaying, and safety.
By certifying their content Open Faerun, and prominently displaying the OF badge at the top of their mod's description, an author stakes their name on a desire for Larian to improve moderation, and communicate awareness of questions and game issues. Fellow modders and mod users may feel safe in the knowledge that authors will not draw lines in the sand or take our toys and go home without strong cause. Authors understand that Larian is well within its rights on holding back information.
Modding will always exist, but the modding community is a fragile ecosystem, and it lives or dies by the spirit of positive collaboration and open communication. Open Faerun is simply this: a recognition that how Larian handles its Modding Community will have an effect on all of us, and that we recognize some previous actions taken to help raise concerns about Community Management have had a negative affect on players. We are not just a collection of people with the same hobby: we're a group united by a shared passion and a legacy of achievement and fighting Illithid abominations. Instead of burning bridges, let’s start building new ones.
